Cherniak thinks Tory deserves another chance

He's just trying to protect his boy Dion from a similar fate, after the next election. It's a pretty clear analogy.

I suspect he's beginning to realize that he's hitched his cart to the wrong horse.

When somebody like Churniak likes you then are you a liberal? John Tory is despite his name a liberal and poster boy Churniak even says so. But none of this matters if he can't be elected, which he can't because even a 'so-called' conservative can't out liberal a liberal.

In all this discussion, I have heard no person named who can replace Tory, is there one?

Hunter, absolutely. But we're not there yet. I saw your comment at Stephen Taylor's. Very wise words.

Let's find out, shall we?

Could anyone do worse?

If there's nobody better than John Tory in this whole province, then we may as well just pack it in.

What's troubling is that John Tory didn't announce his decision tonight.

With the leadership question foremost in the minds of the attending delegates as well as himself, Tory should have thought through the possible outcomes before the convention and been prepared to announce his decision at the convention.

Now the delegates will go home frustrated and anxious.

Tory's lack of preparation and decisiveness does not reflect well on his leadership skills.

Didn't Joe Clark decide to resign the night of his leadership vote?

Paul Martin resigned the night he lost the 2006 election.

Even those two weak leaders were prepared in advance.

Which makes me suspect that John Tory arrogantly assumed that he would get a resounding affirmation to carry on.

Which again goes to show how seriously flawed his judgment is.

The fact that he didn't resign tonight and still needs time to "ponder his future" shows what a weak leader he is. He's only concerned about himself, not the party.

Looks like Steve Janke agrees with you.

Let the circle jerk begin!

Tory's decided to stay.

What he said during his speech before the vote to justify his cling to power is revealing:

"But our own history, and that of the other parties, shows that switching leaders after a defeat isn't the path to victory."

Does this mean that for the good of the party, he'll keep his job as long as he keeps losing elections?

Obviously, I'm a very cynical conservative wannabe pundit. I think Tory didn't resign tonight because he has not one intention of doing so, but will slither as required to hand in there. In that regard, my respect has gone up for Mr. Clark and the also mentioned Paul Martin. (real conservative)

Heh. Good one, Aek. I went to bed but heard the results while I was watching the news last night. It was the beginning of a series of bad dreams.

Yes, R.C. Kinda like house guests that outstay their welcome.

Everyone agrees with me! You just don't realize it yet.

It should be obvious why Jason thinks Tory deserves another chance...because Uncle Warren's happy and when Uncle Warren's happy it means trouble for Tory.

Yep. We need a Tory version of Uncle Warren. I have a few ideas but I'm not putting them out in public domain.
