Garth Turner wants to bring down the government

Garth Turner thinks the Cadman affair may worth toppling the Government over (Globe):

“The questions have not gone away, and each day more evidence has come forward that this is a serious issue. So, unless the government refutes that very quickly, or comes out with a statement of clarification, then I think we ought to be thinking about bringing these guys down,” he said...
(H/T National Newswatch)

If so, I'm wondering how Mrs. Cadman is going to field questions as a Conservative candidate out on the hustings.

Update: Great audio clip at the Globe - Cadman discusses Conservative overtures (June 12, 2005) Scroll down a couple of paragraphs to hear Chuck Cadman discuss the offers with Dan Cook.

we in Halton can hardly wait for him to talk Steffy into doing so.

we need an MP that represents our riding.

So, I take it you're not a big fan, Richard? ;)

Its hard TO find a fan of Garth Joanne....Hes just talking to be heard...his book is coming out today you know...wink wink.

Expect him to make an ass out of himself on the national side of things so he can promote it.

That's one book I won't be buying. I won't even bother checking out the library for it.

Maybe Harper can read that book when he is in jail.

regarding the audio tape Joanne
Cadman says "it's a part of the deal that goes on - especially in a minority gov't" that would have been the Martin minority gov't.

He also said that the party wanted to secure his candidacy and put money into his campaign...what's wrong with that?

Cadman also advises the interview to make up his own mind as to whether any bribes happened.

Oh, and if there's an inquiry haul Paul Martin's ass before the committee and let's revisit Belindagate while we're at it.

Moore OWNED Garth today in question period. He told Garth that he was not welcome in the Conservative party, and they did the right thing to boot him! It was awesome!

Where are those teckies who can capture question period?

Good audio tape. Cadman repeats what he was offered by the Cons.
Cons would not oppose him and would helpout with CAMPAIGN finances.
He had made his decision not to return to the Cons.
Laughed at the suggestion of 'vote buying'.
No hint of hesitation.

Now with Chucks reputation, would he be laughing (as he did on the tape) at a $1million bribe?
No.

Yeah, well that sure isn't me. Maybe some other Blogging Tory.

It's usually repeated in the evening though. Thanks for the tip, Hunter!

The Liberals couldn't bring down the government over a budget they called a mile wide and an inch deep. They won't do it over some alleged bribe offer. To quote Sideshow Bob:

"And just what is the deal with "attempted murder" anyway? They don't give you the Noble Prize for "attempted chemistry" do they?"

From what I have experienced as a civil servant in Ottawa, this is "standard operating procedure" among politicians and only the most naive person would find this scandalous.

Exactly! Thank You for saying that.

We only have to look at the Grewal and Stronach incidents to see that the Liberals did their fair share of this type of thing.

I'm not defending it, but way Chuck sounds on the audio clip, it's like 'Same old, same old'.

The most naive person, or the most desperate Liberal.

Someone needs to question the ethics of implicating a scandal that revolves around a dead man.rbz

did I not just hear on MDL that the tape of Harper and the book author had been tampered with. Who could be behind this, or could gain by altering the tape.
Has this anything to do with the bi-elections in BC in a couple of weeks or the Federal election. Lots of questions.

Wasn't Cadman ultimately given a position by Martin's minority gov't after supporting the Liberal vote, to overseeing the law he ultimately got into politics in the first place to see made law???

Wouldn't that be worth far more to someone who was dying and knew his remaining days were numbered...

To know he would leave a legacy and complete a promise to a dead son on what he'd started into politics in the first place to accomplish?

Wouldn't it make more sense he was offered a bird in hand by Martin's Minority Gov't...

Wouldn't being offered that by a minority Liberal gov't, as an opportunity to secure the gov't by securing his vote been worth saying no to any amount of money offered...

Forcing the election at that time would have tossed everything in the air... If the minority gov't had fallen at that time, Cadman would have needed to have the conservatives win a majority to have been able to see the bill pass...but he never would have lived to be sworn in as he died before they'd have finished with the election...

but then living in BC and watching this whole mess unfold for the past several years or so...who knows...

What it comes down to is
a)Do you believe a PM who kept all his millions hidden offshore in Tax exempt countries which as a Finance Minister he defined as Tax exempt, or b)a PM who worked with Chuck as a Reformer, and later an Alliance member, who says that he knew Chuck would have never accepted such an offer and he himself never would have made one...if an offer was made, it wasn't Harper who said to do it...

At the end of the day as an Independent MP, Chuck held all the cards... He got what he needed to get for his own family and piece of mind... maybe the regret he really was voicing to his daughter was that he was being offered a place back into the Conservative Party that included the life insurance policy automatically and he needed to go the other route and stay an independant to get the law passed... I know that might shake someone up pretty bad when weighing what's more important to you...take care of the living members of your family or follow through on a promise to a dead son... that's a rock and a hard place

look up Jesse's law or alterations to the Young offenders act... do some reading.

Cadman did some very good things and opportunistically dragging him through the mud shows how low some will go to get press

He certainly did. He was a good man.

Dippers are up in arms, because it was reported today that Libs have sat on this book/info for a year.
Gee, I wonder why they did that?

It was also asked today by Duffy if meds could have made Chucks thinking alittle fuzzy. For those of us who watched (young) loved ones die of cancer, as the pain meds get stronger, the mind definitely drifts.

Wilson, where did you hear that? I know that Paul Martin had the manuscript for over a year.

Real conservative, you're going to have to explain that one or I'll have to delete it. I have a problem with someone attacking a person who can no longer defend himself.

Hi new to the joint .....I have been doing a lot of reading south of our border and have decided to head home and weigh in ... ok lib or con ....big bunch of crap ....its not a wide brush I use but its still a brush .....this guy Chuck seems to me has something that is rare in politics .....Integrity ....yea something that's easier kept than regained ....be careful, be very careful .....it's hard not to think that Harper will have a harder time than Dion in this topic .....Dion is a hack , Stephen has to offer up credibility ...either way both offer something to each camp ...Hey being a Garth will get you on the stage ....what's wrong with that ...not all comedians make me laugh but then again ...I don't think bringing down Harper and his cronies is a mission hey portrayed in his interview that I noticed ....I think the biggest sin we can commit is presumptuous sin .. I don't know or ever knew Chuck but you can bet he left a bit of who he was on his family ....hopefully he did some good ...do we really need to wade into such murky waters where we can hardly see the chub let alone the bottom of the stream ....
There are much better topics and that effect us much deeper than the vain accusations of both the liberals and conservatives have used in this subject ...either way they both loose a little integrity ....Katou

You are so right. In this case, I drop my partisanship and ask why we need to drag this good man's name through the mud after his death? Have an inquiry if needed or whatever, but let's please respect those who no longer can speak for themselves.

Finally read the Globe story and I have a question.
Why would the conservatives be offering an insurance policy for Dona. Maybe that is what Dona thought she would get, not Chuck.
That is the question asked of PMSH.
