Do you know where YOUR tax dollars are going?

This is actually not news, but Ontario (and especially Toronto) tax payers should be aware that "hundreds of GTA Muslim men in polygamous marriages -- some with a harem of wives -- are receiving welfare and social benefits for each of their spouses, thanks to the city and province..."

Today's Sun features a report (Harems pay off for Muslims) that explains how Canada is "way ahead of Britain in this respect."

I'm just so proud.

Related: Obviously Raphael is one of the many Canadians not aware of our generous policy.

Well, how else are we going to deal with our low birth rate here in Canada? Restrict abortions?

Update: SDA has another link - via If you build it they will come.

Mark Peters - Polygamy is lucrative in Ontario.

Neo - Apparently nobody was watching...

Saturday Update
: Only one wife gets benefits: Province - Post.

"Nothing is stopping the other people who live in the same dwelling from applying as individuals, and if they meet the requirements they may be eligible for social assistance, but you definitely cannot tick off that you have more than one spouse because it's not recognized, it's not legal in Ontario," said Julia Sakas, communications assistant to Ms. Meilleur.

Yes, Joanne we Canadians are a polite people aren't we?

We seem to even invite gov't to pick our pockets at will, and when they lie to us what do we do?

We re-elect them for more of the same.

This topic gets me very upset at the people in Ontario voting Liberal all the time.
Also upsetting are the comments on the Turner blog. Someone needs to charge someone with slander one of these times. Our PM deserves better than some of the names he's been called today.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Did Turner call him a 'political whore' again Ruth?

No, it's the comments from people writing in. Like Harper or not, he is still our PM, and a lot of the comments shouldn't be allowed.

Joanne, I'd like to comment on this topic but apparently I've been branded a quasi-Islamophobe so...

I've got a "C" word for this topic!

"Conspiracy" as in ... to commit fraud.

Or does the government of Ontario consider fraud to be of no consequence? OOPs silly me ....

So the left has been successful in silencing you, Raphael.

"Canada is a very liberal-minded country," Ali said. "Canada is way ahead of Britain in this respect."

Also Canada is so liberal-minded that to quote News & Views of the winter edition of the right to life, winter edition: says Canada is "20 years without a law on Abortion. Bill C-43"

Now I wonder how many of the Muslim men like Ali would abort their children from all those many wives, no I don't think any. As they will also be a means of bringing in more money.
So up goes the Muslim population here while we none Muslims are aborting ours like mad.
Don't worry in time, we will all be Muslim by their sheer growing numbers in the population and of the liberal support of their increases. Then our daughters that are allowed to be born can look forward to be part of being in a growing Muslim harem also.

I wonder how much longer Dalton can keep Sharia law out of Ontario.

The fraud angers me a little, but not as much as the fact the cowards in charge changed the mariage act to recognise polygamous marriages, so long as they are legal in the country of origin. Age of consent and marriage is way lower in some of those countries as well. How many of these polygamous marriages involve pedophilia? Is that also going to be acceptable on this slippery slope?

This reflects very badly on our immigration system. Even progressives should worry when these stories are revealed since it causes an increase in anti-immigration sentiment.

For the last couple of decades Canadian voters and taxpayers were told that we needed lots of immigrants because of our low birthrate. This would ensure our economic prosperity and the survival of our social programs. Yet, stories like this indicate that immigrants can actually be a big drain on our social support systems. Thereby defeating the stated purpose of the immigration policy.

So, if this the original reasoning was faulty then maybe we would be better off significantly lowering immigration numbers. Only allowing immigrants that will actually be an economic benefit to Canada rather than a financial burden. Scrap family reunification, enforce sponsorship obligations, introduce time limits and residency minimums for welfare benefits and curtail refugees. Focus primarily on quality immigrants instead of quantity.

Off Topic

has anyone seen Dion's apology to Dimitri Soudas

I noticed Mike Duffy mentioned (on his show this week) quietly in passing "last week we were talking about the Soudas affair???"

no response from the journalists

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Good question about Dion. I haven't heard a thing.

Maybe too much other stuff going on with the upcoming non-confidence motions , etc.

Do you have any statistics to support this anon? As far as I can tell from this site according to the Koran a fetus does not become a person until it is 120 days, which means that abortion within the first 4 months is acceptable.

This seems like fear mongering to me. Muslims make up 2.5% of the Canadian population. Do you have any evidence that 2nd and 3rd generation muslims are not fully integrated into the Canadian society? I think you should be more worried about atheists like myself as there are more of us.

Listen, I've had my concerns about immigration and Islam as well. The "left" are not silencing me. But I do take issue with the above inaccuracy:

Don't worry in time, we will all be Muslim by their sheer growing numbers in the population and of the liberal support of their increases. Then our daughters that are allowed to be born can look forward to be part of being in a growing Muslim harem also.

I also believed that rates in immigration would reflect the growing numbers of Islamic societies, but that is largely rebutted by demographics:

EDITORIAL: Mideast fertility rates plunge

They should have won much wider appreciation, for what they suggest is that Arab birth rates in general are dropping dramatically, and that the number of births among women under the age of 20 is dropping even more sharply. Overwhelmingly, the only places in the world where high birth rates are still the norm are in sub-Saharan Africa, and in Central America, and in two Arab countries: Yemen and the Palestinian territories.

[...]Demographers in France have already refuted some of the wilder predictions of high birth rates among Muslim immigrants leading to "the cathedral of Notre Dame becoming a mosque by the end of this century." The birthrate of mothers of North African origin drops to the local norm within two generations. Now it seems that the birthrate of Muslim and Arab women who did not emigrate is plummeting in a similar fashion.

The birth rates in Palestine is no surprise given the ongoing humanitarian crisis. I have no idea why Yemen is so high. But the rest of the Arab world could be seeing a leveling off and indeed a sharp decline in births, and so I speculate we will not see too many Islamic immigrants here in the future.

Additionally, despite the decline in birth rates in China, they continue to represent the largest demographic of immigrants to Canada by far. There is evidence to suggest that if China can modernize like Japan, they should see a decline in population as well, but until that happens, China and India will remain Canada's largest migrant demographic.

If you look at the 2006 census, Arabs make up 0.7% of Canada's population, hardly enough to even be a notable statistic. Chinese and South Asian, however represent 3.4% and 3.1% respectively. If you skim down to religion, Muslims constitute 2% of religion in Canada according to 2001 Census stats. The ten-year increase in Islamic immigrants was 128.9% from 1991 [slightly more than double], but of note is Christian immigrants who represent a change of 121.1% so Christianity is certainly keeping pace with Islam.

Anyway, all of this is immaterial to the article, but it addresses the above commenter concerns of Islamic invasions.

None of this really has much to do with Muslims specifically.

The only eyebrow raiser for me was the wording makes it sounds like the man is receiving the welfare payments for all wives. Would welfare payments in a 2 person marriage not be addressed to both spouses?

Otherwise it is really no different from men who have children with more than one girlfriend or ex wife.

Is it not still true that education, specifically of girls, is the main determiner of birth rate? So in a country where girls are not allowed to go to school, or where there are no schools, birth rate will be higher. When they emigrate here, the education level rises, especially in the next generation, and the birth rate drops.

Ruth - not all people in Ontario vote Liberal.

Trouble is that the conservatives are currently in no-man's land..and with that lots of disenfranchised blues.
