If the Lord's prayer is removed that is one thing , but bowing to the multicultural dogma of allowing rotating prayers of different faiths is an insult to the secular democracy called Canada.
What next , Muslim call to prayers 5 times a day ?
Evironmentalists Prayer: Please die everyone, because humans pollute the earth. Except us environmentalists, who must remain behind to exterminate any vermin who escape. Amen
Well Christian people of Ontario are fighting a rear guard battle. Reciting the Lord's Prayer means nothing by itself. Without the belief system behind the prayer you might as well be whistling Dixie.
For the better part of its history the Church has been an agent of Ontario elites and state, not an agent of the people.
Unless the Church is an agent of the people it loses its influence in the society. Should the church regain its influence amongst the people the matter of reciting the Lord's Prayer would be unimportant only because everyone would want to recite it.
When I heard this on the radio this morning, my first thought was "There is a place in Ontario, outside of a church, where the Lord's Prayer is still recited publically?" As a Christian, I would of course not be offended by that but I must say I am very surprised. With the perpetual cries of separation of church and state, this almost seems anachronistic to me.
That being said, replacing it with some kind of all-inclusive politically-correct "prayer" that in its eagerness to not offend anyone winds up saying nothing at all, is worse than just dropping it altogether.
In my early years of elementary school, the Lord's Prayer was replaced with a moment of silence. This gave everyone the opportunity to say a silent prayer that was meaningful to them. That is a much better option than a generic script.

Yeah! We can only hope. A dose of religious neutrality in government would be a welcome change over the one faith (or one sect of one faith) favouritism we currently see.

I don't think atheists have their own prayer. They would just want to do exactly like McGuinty desires.
Oh.
Thanks for the post.
Also,
This will be his first step towards eliminating the Catholic school system.

There's an interesting wrinkle...
can you say "Ontario now a pagan province"
SHAME SHAME on the liberals
Yes, we atheists DO have a prayer, offered just in case we're wrong about the whole thing.
"Oh Lord, deliver us from twits like Dalton McGuinty, who has never learned that if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
I don't know about McGuinty's religious beliefs, but he sure worships at the shrine of Political Correctness.
The Devil take his soul!
I don't have strong feelings on this, but I think that tradition should supersede secularism here.

I just read something about that yesterday! It may have been in Britain. If I find it again, I'll post it.
I guarantee the muezzin call to prayer will come to Ontario.
let's get this straight.
The Catholic Premier who fancies Catholic schools wants to remove the Lord's Prayer from the leg.?
This Premier has too much time on his hands, man.

Well done, Greg. Prayer to be said in front of a statue of David Suzuki.

Well said, Steph. I think you mirror my thoughts on this.
