In praise of Dalton McGuinty

Taking a short break, but please feel free to use this thread for any interesting news developments, as I may do as well.

Please be sure to check out today's Record's editorial cartoon which has suggested an alternative to the Lord's Prayer in Queen's Park (which as you may recall, does not properly reflect Ontario's diversity any longer - according to our esteemed Premier). It may be a bit difficult to read on the website, but the text goes as follows (Courtesy of www.mackaycartoons.net):

Our Premier
Which Art in Ontario
Diversity be thy name
Thy Province come
Thy will be done
In Earth as
It is in Toronto
Give us Non-gluten
Alternatives to Bread
And forgive us our Fibs
As we forgive Liberals
Who fib against us
And lead us not into
Faith-Based Schools
Bur deliver us from
John Tory
For Thine is Non-Sectarian
All-inclusive and P.C.
For Diversity and
Multi-Culturalism
APEOPLE

MacKay's whole website is worth a visit.

Happy Family Day weekend!

Several great letters in today's Post. This one really hits the mark:
A plea for prayer

Before wiser heads prevailed, Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty flirted with allowing shariah law in Ontario a few years ago. Last week he indicated a desire to change Ontario's school curriculum to better accommodate black students. And now he wants to eliminate the century-old tradition of saying the Lord's Prayer before the opening of parliamentary sessions.

I have to wonder if we will recognize Ontario in the future, if Mr. McGuinty continues his shameless pandering to his preferred voting blocs.

Larry Comeau, Ottawa.

From the Star:
Who says we have to have a prayer that "reflects our diversity"? What about one that reflects our heritage? Doesn't the premier have more pressing matters on his agenda than dismantling the traditions of this province? It's about time we realize that immigrants come here because they like us the way we are.

This most joyous of holiday weekends just got a little more joyous. As we gather around our Family Day shrubs to enjoy our traditional Family Day feasts, we'll have a little something extra to celebrate beyond our Families -the impending demise of the Ethics committee's Mulroney-Schreiber hearings...

Sunday Update: Lorrie Goldstein - Dalton doesn't have a prayer. Don't miss this one!

Monday Update: Mackay's cartoon is making quite a splash across the ocean! (Shire Network News - Defending the Anglosphere through Satire).

My family isn't getting a Family Day weekend.

I hear that there's a storm brewing....more snow and ice.

Given that we've all be snowed by Dalton on this one....kind of appropriate I think.

Now wouldn't that be hilarious if we get a big storm that would have been declared a 'snowday' anyway? All those teachers and school kids will be demanding another stat!

I understand that the gov't lessened the no. of teaching days by one to allow for the family day for teachers....but, I have also heard that some boards are making teachers make up that day at the end of the year.

I think Dalton Day will be a bust, and yes, here's hoping for another global warming snow day to go with the already 5 we've had in my area so far this school year.

last year it was an even dozen snow days.

I guess the question has to be asked....Dalton is proving himself to be a disaster as Premier...he lacks any vision and lacks leadership skills....and why does he always have that " i cant find my car keys" look? Anyways...if Dalton was good enough to get another majority...what does that say about John Tory. I've said the same thing about Al Gore...if your not good or smart enough to beat an inept candidate whats that say about you? Just askin. Billg

Bill, I totally agree. Tory is toast.

everywhere I went today on my errands folks were grumbling about Family Day.

No one understands it, no one wants it, and no one remembers that it was one of McGuinty's "I'll do anything to get elected" promises.

How about Doug Holiday for the next provincial pc leader?

Think about it.

Smart, Etobicoke Conservative, very well respected in the big smoke among those wanting a more accountable Toronto council.

He's do what Tory couldn't....win his riding....and be the definate other choice of not just Torontonians but Ontarians.

Did anyone happen to catch Focus Ontario to hear Brad DooGood say that he was working on Family Day, when asked what he was doing?

He recovered quickly and then stumbled out that he was hoping to go skating or skiing.

Ooops.

So what's everyone else doing on Family Day? Might make an interesting poll so we can see the kinds of family things folks are doing tomorrow, in the rain, ice and snow(depending on where you are).

Might make a good blog post, if I get time. What will you be doing, Anon?

Dear Dalton Family Day Diary,

First, my husband's company wasn't giving its employees family day off because it meant giving up the civic holiday Monday. Thinking a day off is far preferred in August, that was that.

Nothing planned for Family Day, same old, same old.

Then, Friday, meeting called to say that the company lawyers made a mistake and yes, they could now have Family Day, or, take another day off.

Since most had not made plans, most will be at work and choose another day off.

Me...working also....self-employed.

Kid that's home from school- homework.

The weather says we'll be watching the snowsqualls off of Georgian Bay.

How about you Joanne?

Oh, those can be nasty.

As for me, I'll be cooking a big birthday dinner for my IHTG, who is very happy not to have to work tomorrow. lol!

Hilarious. The McGuinty prayer is genius.
