I hope I don't drown in the Kool-Aid

The Red-Green show threatens to pollute my fair town tomorrow.

Tough being a conservative here at the best of times.

* * * *
More Red/Green News - The Westmount Examiner - Local greens choose Genest.

Leader-Post: Liberals still giving each other the rocket.

Hubert Bauch, The Gazette - Dion is misunderstood in both official languages:

...Dion's language problem, in one tongue or the other, is that he still talks too much like the poli-sci professor he was before he entered political practice.

He has a tendency to speak in chapters, not sentences - never mind sound bites. Intelligent and well-meaning as he undeniably is, in an age of diminished attention spans where the seven-second clip rules the newscasts, Dion comes across like a dinosaur from the days before radio.

And he can be as incomprehensible and eyeglazing in French as in English....

WFP - Parsing Mr. Dion:
...What he meant to say was that Canada should abandon the war in southern Afghanistan and NATO should take up a diplomatic war against Pakistan to persuade it to close its borders to terrorists. The Liberal leader appears oblivious to the fact such a war of diplomacy has been going on for years without any success and that if he wants to step it up a notch now, he might have to actually pick up a gun.

CanWest News
- Bernier letter attempt to reassure Pakistan:
That clarification prompted even more criticism from the federal government and other critics who said Dion should know better, that NATO is a military alliance, not a diplomatic one.
(H/T Neo)

Joan Tintor - Delacourt: Keen coverage is payback for Harper’s treatment of press gallery

Michael De Tandt - Dion's view on Afghanistan dangerously flawed.

ANGELO PERSICHILLI - Dion out of this world on foreign affairs:
...if Dion's going to handle our economy with the same skill he just showed in foreign affairs, it would be better if he stayed in Afghanistan.

You need to move to the more conservative south. It's not a big move, just a few Km's to Cambridge.

Niagara Falls, and our MP Rob Nicholson, would welcome you too and it's a great place to raise a family.
One thing that I took note of in the Toronto Star article that you linked to was the 'promise' by Dion to provide manufacturers with access to a one billion dollar fund to help them develop green technology. As far as I'm concerned that would be a billion dollars wasted as funds to research and develop future anything seem to disappear into a huge black hole.
If a company thinks they can make a profit from selling something that the public wants then they should be funding their own research. Otherwise there's no real incentive for them to develop new technology as the government funding would dry up once it was on the market. A more cynical person might even suggest that it would be in the interest of the company's bottom line to NOT develop anything as government funding is easy-money.
Provide the funds instead to those of us who are going to be buying the new technology once it's been developed. That way the companies don't become dependent on government research funding but have to actually develop a product that the masses can afford to buy in order to realize a profit.
If there's going to be a billion dollar fund then it should be made available to the public for the purchase of things like solar panels and wind turbines.
I'd stick a wind turbine on my roof tomorrow if they were more affordable or if I had access to substantial government funding to purchase one.
The good thing is that the more they sell the cheaper they become and the less reliant we would be on the government funding to purchase them.
Let's get this ball rolling now!
Joanne, I'm going to leave it up to you to talk with the Greens and Reds about this idea because they're in your neighbourhood.

Yikes. No pressure there! ;)

I'm not a big fan of corporate welfare either, Neil. It's just an extension of the Nanny-state mentality and has little place in a country founded on the principle of free-enterprise.

Dear Joanne (True Blue):

You're safe. Just use lotsa duct tape to keep that anvil fastened to your ankle.

[tip:] Be sure to have said anvil clearly marked and identified as THIS IS AN ANVIL!! lest some of the frustrated and myopic libroid lads and lassies mistake said implement for their leader, or his assistant, or the clearly lucid puppet Pablum Rotwidget, with Kristaah's hand in his back poche.

Nothing worse than having the slack-jawed and drooling obsequious faithful followers of Kid Kyoto, genulflucting all over the place and trying to kiss the hem of your levis, at the exact and very time that you, in flawed thinking might be wanting to attempt to traverse their soggy morass of a confab.

[point of interest:] just incase steffi, the msm and steff's home-boys want to try raise a ruckus about "his life being put in danger with an allegedly 'leaked' intinerary and mention of his eventual destionation...?"

Last time I checked, through algores wwwwebb internet, open to all those seeking enlightenment, there are about 24 NATO PRTs [Provincial Reconstruction Teams]in Af'stan. Besides, recognizing the infighting in the Lib Party, any one of their own people could have tried to sell Steffi out.

If you go to the confab, avoid the KoolAid.

I saw rt posting on here and thought that he may have gone back to being a civil human being. I took a look at his blog and found that I could not have been more wrong.

The following is posted there:

By the way, as suspected, my comment was instantly zapped by "I'd love to discuss it with you" Joanne. Golly, is she a lying, hypocritical c*** ? You bet!

How about you do everyone a favour and try quitting again?

Back to CM, I'm afraid.

And they wonder why blogs written by women don't last long.

This from the side of the political spectrum that derides the Conservatives for not having enough female politicians.

How ironic and hypocritical.

You see, RT is declining as age progresses; the poor fellow is developing dementia:

- makes topic threads about the poor level of discourse on Conservative blogs, yet calls Joanne a C**t

- allows his syphocants to drown out differing opinions via vulgar opposition while they arrogantly excuse their behaviour by saying your part of the "discourse" doesn't pass their stict muster, and thus is fair subject to their lofty scorn

- makes the oh-so innocent and minimizing "mere suggestion" likening the whole of Blogging Tories as "ur fascists" - and wonders why his loathesome presence isn't tolerated.

- warns us sternly that he has installed Haloscan to deal with us, then blathers incoherently about having his own flaming comments deleted.

- rambles loftily about quitting, then emerges again shortly thereafter as if it never occurred.

Well, for my part, I'll try to stop holding it against him and ignore his blathering. Afterall, such an affliction deserves sympathy and understanding.

Joanne you have a wonderful opportunity to organize two demonstrations. For Lizzie you might make a sign saying "Save the rain forest, ban biofuels." For Stephie how about "Dion's diplomatic triumph, one visit, two countries annoyed." or "Dion the tactical genius who never won a snowball fight." Your opportunity awaits.

Exactly kw, rt must have invented the line "Do as I say, not as I do"

Degrading and insulting comments should not be tolerated by anyone.

Enough said about the little boy who didn't get his way.

Last year, about this time the lawn finally disappeared under a blanket of white. I just looked outside and it is snowing again. Th car roof is still just a little higher than the snowbanks before I shovel the foot of snow of the car roof and the driveway. Global warming, cancelled due to snow and cold weather.

When I see mindless crap and profanity, Name calling and personal attacks posted on blogs,It feels the same as walking down the street and seeing walls covered in grafitti.
I came here to listen to people express their point of view.
If you disagree I would like to hear your argument.
Unfortunatly even If I follow you back to where you came from, all I find is the same intellectual pollution as you have left here.
Anger abuse and contempt are not arguments.

Oh my gosh Joanne! Watching CTV's Question Period...ahead of the show the Kitcher/Waterloo affiliate said that because the Liberal caucus was meeting in your neighbourhood making it the "political capital" of the country over the next few days.

What a bunch of BS....what's with your tv station???

Looks like Dion snookered you guys again. The shrieking from you and your fellow travelers is music to my ears.

With all the dissembling from every columnist in the Sun, I have to keep re-reading what he actually said, that if Pakistan can't control its border, NATO forces could assist them. Nothing particularly new in that, they typically refuse, just as the refused outside help to investigate Bhutto's assassination. But now they are having Scotland Yard investigate, so they do sometimes change their minds. Dion is not "suggesting" applying diplomatic pressure. His statements already did. And they were quite effective.

Your transparent attempts to use this for your own partisan purposes even embarrassed the Pakistanis who were fooled into saying any entry without their permission would be treated as invasion. Of course Dion never suggested anything without their permission, only your courtiers said that, trying to create an international incident for your petty partisan reasons.

Watching MacKay blubbering that Dion is "calling for invasion" was just the icing on the cake.

Meanwhile your tired rehashing of "not a leader" and "not worth the risk" shows you haven't got any new ideas.

If what he said was what he meant then why the need for someone else to explain his comments?

There was no need, of course. Anyone should be able to understand what was said. But the willful (and faked) obtuseness of people like MacKay, claiming Dion wants to invade Pakistan, would require some response, no? The Liberals know it is just your pathetic attempts to continue the "we cant unnerstand wot he'z sayin'" meme, so they'll play along, letting you think your silly smears are actually working.

Yes, just like Peter Worthington figures Dion doesn't really like soldiers or police. Based on what, aside from Worthington's own bias, I don't know.

Just like you, when you start psychoanalyzing people over nothing.

But since it is of such concern to you, I'll reveal the truth. I was using a different computer over the weekend, and the keyboard seems to transpose characters that are typed nearly simultaneously, at least it does much more often than the keyboard I am using today. Plus the screen colours there are not my preferred settings so I don't proof read as carefully as usual.

Thank you for your concern, though.

No, the reason it was someone else that had to respond for Dion, and not Dion himself, is that he still acts as if he is in the classroom. When Dion attempts to communicate his thought process, the results are nothing short of abysmal.

Honestly, I would say that the only thing being faked here is your belief that Dion did not screw up, yet again, the attempt to deliver his message to Canadians.

Dion, ivory tower's wimpish nebbish that he is, obviously doesn't understand the phonetic english his handlers and lib enemies set before him. Steffi leading this country and we'd have body bags twelve deep on the tarmacs around the globe. Yikes!!

He would only have screwed up if he did not anticipate all the shrieking from people like MacKay, who still claimed Dion wants to invade Pakistan.

But I'm sure he knows exactly what your people would do. He has managed to put mild diplomatic pressure on Pakistan, and he's not even in power!

If the Gov't of Pakistan is ticked off by Dion's comments this "gaff" is far worse, and far more dangerous, than whatever farce you libs seem to wish it might have been.
We don't know what the Government of Pakistan was reacting to. Most likely they reacted to MacKay's lying that Dion wants to invade their country.

We all get fooled from time to time, by person A saying person B said something and then reacting to that, instead of making sure of what person B said.

Steffi leading this country and we'd have body bags twelve deep on the tarmacs around the globe.
Soldiers in the streets eh? Hahahaha!

Yikes!!

Sorry to have to call you on this, Liab Supp.

The Pakistan Ambassador was more than specific in his complaint. He and his staff can probably function in Enlgish and French, one hell of a lot better than Dion, and appologisy Scottie boy. They can probably work in a few other languages as well.

His displeasure was aired on CTV and CBC was aired, as well as being published in most newspapers.

Dion said what he said. It was recorded. It was appropriately translated. In actual fact, this is more than a gaffe. It's a horrendous flaw, yet it gets less coverage than Day not nowing which way the rivers of Canada flow.

Steffi is your worst nightmare at this time, L.S.

Wishing it hadn't been said, doesn't make it so, nor does wishing and delusional thinking, make it go away.

So you can confirm conclusively that they were reacting to Dion's actual words, and not MacKay's lies?

Link?

So can we take it from your comments that the leader of the opposition is actually just playing the Conservatives and is, in fact, ready to, as the Liberals put it, "Overthrow" the Government?

And that this, is yet another clever diversion?
