yeah, let's talk about the David Johnston report...and the great news that Harper will not be wasting taxpayer dollars on an overblown circus.
He actually seems to be putting the ball in the court of the ethics committee(minus the ethically challenged liberal members of the committee.
Oh, and you'd think the announcement would be headlined on CTV wouldn't you? Nope. Funny that.
Ezra Levant is bearing the burden of a fight for free speech on behalf of all of us. We need to demontrate our support... what's the best way to do so?
His opening speech should have been quoted fully on the front page, or on the opinion page, of every major paper in this country... FAT CHANCE of that.
Oh, and Mr. I Don't Care... can you be more specific? Do you not care that there if there is a status of Jesus or Mohammad with an erection, or do you not care that a man is fighting for the future of free speech in Canada?

I was listening to a podcast of a recent NPR show. The host did not want to say the word Mohammed for fear of a "fatwah"(sic) against her. Now that is successful psyhc-ops by the islamists. The host made her say it under duress but the point was made in my mind nontheless.

It amazes me that the public is so engulfed in Survivor or whatever that they dont see the importance of this. there should be op eds in evry newspapaer and the news should be filled with this. maybe we don't deserve this democracy anymore. Maybe out and out communism would suit this country best. We have collectively become mentally neutered.

But damn, were they upset last month about that Halton School and The Golden Compass. They were afraid Canada was on the verge of becoming a totalitarian state.

There is actually more truth to that than most people realize. There is a point where it actually does become very difficult to be friends with people when you have such divergent perspectives on virtually every issue. Even seemingly innocuous comments can seem rooted in ignorance and subtext.

This is becoming common because people don't understand the difference between censorship via Human Rights Commissions vs. age-based restrictions on materials available to children through school and other libraries.
The board's decision doesn't stop any parent from buying or borrowing the Golden Compass for his child. The complaints against the Western Standard and Macleans are intended to stifle publication of the cartoons and Steyn's book.

'Begs the question' refers strictly to a circular argument; i.e., an argument 'begs the question' if it assumes as a premise what it seeks out to prove as a conclusion. Think of it as begging for - as in pleading to be able to use - the question that is to be answered. It does not mean that a statement leads to a further question.
