Public pressure triumphs over political-correctness

"Frosty the Snowman" has replaced "Silver Bells".

See? Don't give up.

We can make a difference.

Well at least they're not destroying a Christmas favourite.

The original post is here with MSM references for those who missed it.

So if they had all those complaints, why change the song...why not just sing it as it was written.....

sigh.....

By the way - have a truly Merry Christmas, Joanne - your "blog-work" is truly appreciated.

Merry Christmas Joanne of Joanne’s Journey,

You truly are an inspiration,
a Christmas gift to us all,
your blog is an inspiration,
and a clean look for us all,
you lift up our eyes to look for kinder ways,
That this country and our lives
can operate in and bless each other
in all kinds of ways,
We check out your postings to quote you,
in so many ways, you truly are a blessing,
a fresh start to all of our days,
May God continue to bless you.
in all the ways you have blessed all of us,
and we always check you out in each and every way,
For a hopeful ray of sunshine, in our lives
and our country, as we drink our morning coffee each and every day.
Keep it up Joanne, for you try to keep us honest,
and keep us from being unkind and dishonest.

So MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU AND ALL OF THE COUNTRY,

Frosty the Snowman should also be banned because that song title promotes cocaine use in the winter time to little children.

Seasons Greetings! It is the first day of winter.

Just heard a group of singers singing Silver Bells, on the cbc, with the word CHRISTMAS.
With this small victory perhaps more people will start to fight back.
Another victory for Canadians, in my opinion, is the set back to the Consumers group that lost big time in court, trying to sue most of the major retailers and corporations re deposit fees.

At my recent son's "Winter Wonderland" concert at his public school there was lots of singing and even three dances. All of the songs were about winter, santa, marshmallows, an old lady eating snow, hats, scarves, etc, shopping blues and the like. They seemed to take great effort to remove any Christmas reference from the concert. The odd thing was as family members found their seats before the concert began, they played some instrumental Christmas music like God Bless Ye Merry Gentlemen. At least last year they found room for Silent Night.

anon,

I'm with you on this. This school is not just run by a bunch of PC teachers; they are PC teachers that wouldn't know a mackerel if it hit them on the head.

Merry Christmas to the staff at Elmdale School!!! With feeling.

May the smarter parents pull their kids out before permanent damage occurs.

So they have "Holiday Concerts" now. I guess that makes December 25 the Holiday Holiday?

hehe, that's great news :)

ironically, my cross-post of the original article you posted gained over 100 comments (including mine) in the shortest time ever for my blog.

Funny how something so simple and essentially insignificant can be so controversial by its implication.

At least we know for certain that the school wasn't making the change to take some kind of stand, or it would love all the backlash the choice made, and would still be standing by it.

Just goes to show there are still a -lot- of people paying attention to this "Christmas" word removal controversy.

Quite frankly, I'm very angry with the substitution of Frosty the Snowman as a song at this school's Holiday Concert.
Why is it not Frosty the Snowperson?
Was the carrot misplaced?

Yes, it appears you have "triumphed" at politicizing even Christmas. Instead of simply being nice to everyone at Christmas, they have been forced by you to take more of Christmas out of Christmas. So then you can cry anew about the "war on Christmas". A nice gesture gets turned, by you, into obvious de-Christmasizing. Which is exactly what you want, so you can pander for votes, claiming the other parties are anti-Christmas.

Karl Rove sends his best. Congrats on poisoning one more well!

The above was said by someone who sees the world in terms of pulling
people down into one side or another so that they can hate one another's choices, beliefs, and stir up as much bile as they can, especially at CHRISTMAS TIME.

Merry Christmas Joanne!
Jesus is the Reason for the Season.

Actually, being a believer I celebrate the Birth of Christ any day!

Nice try, anon. Karl Rove sends his best to you too. You are following Karl's innovation of dragging discourse into the gutter, then blaming others (as you just did) for doing what you yourself (or your cohorts) have done.

I have to admit it has worked in the past, but we're on to you now. I am hopeful your hate baiting continues to become more ineffective.

Have a Merry Christmas, Joanne!

When I was a kid, the relatives always seemed to argue politics. Now, nobody does. I think it may be that every political discussion eventually becomes personal these days. At least it seems so.

I'd like to resume the fine lost art of discussing politics in person. I may try it over the holidays.

If you don't hear from me for a long time, I may have succeeded (and gotten hospitalized in the "discussion"!)

lol! There's a whole post in itself! I find it very dangerous to bring up the topic of politics in any of our extended family gatherings!

In any case, Merry Christmas, Liberal Supporter. I always enjoy our political jousts. ;)

My sister is a staunch Liberal supporter, I don't think I will get into any heated discussions with her over the holiday ham though. (Dad would probably still take us out back and tan our hides if we did. ;>)

Anyway, good luck with that LS and have a Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas all!!

Merry Christmas Jo!

Liberal supporter has Karl Rove on the brain.

Karl is an American, we are Canadians talking about Christmas.

But it looks like liberal supporter wants to throw a name out here, the only one that seems to be on his brain.

lol! So much for my theory of political support running in families..

Merry Christmas Platty, and everyone who reads this.

Count your blessings. In Canada we have so many.

The Bruce - I'm thinking that folks have just had enough. The most surprising thing is hearing politicians actually uttering the words "Merry Christmas" again.

I hope it's not just the flavour of the month.

While shopping at Costco today I literally bumped into my MP. He and his wife were leaving and I was going in. We did really bump.
We hugged, talked for a few minutes and wished each other a Merry Christmas.

Goin' meet King Jesus in the air
I thank God I'm free at last!
