Now things are starting to make sense - Updated

A while ago I wondered why some key Liberals and Liberal media were against opening up this can of worms.

The answer may lie here - Key Liberal Pushed Schreiber Project. (H/T National Newswatch)

* * * *

Update: Schreiber granted bail; testifies before committee.

And Szabo still bending over backwards.

Schreiberfes
t.

Schreiber vows 'Christmas' for MP's
.

1:35 PM - L. Ian MacDonald on CTV - "If this was Christmas on the Hill, Mike, there was a lump of coal in the stocking."

Brilliant!

CTV
- Schreiber testifies about dealings with Mulroney.

See Jack's Newswatch for commentary.

Curiosity Cat - Ethics committee blows Schreiber II.

Globe - Mulroney deal had nothing to do with Airbus: Schreiber.

AA - So why are we doing this again?

Somewhat O/T but ... the chair of the Ethics Committee, Paul Szabo, is droning on and on about how all Canadians are outraged at the treatment Schreiber has been subjected to while being transferred from his holding cell to his home to retrieve his documents.

There are a few choice words I'd use to describe Szabo - but I can't do so in polite company.

Szabo has already intimated that a judicial/police inquiry would not be as useful as the "inquiry" undertaken by the Ethics Committee.

Meanwhile, The Leader of the Unofficial Opposition, James Travers is celebrating the attempts by the clowns at the Szabo-Schreiber Circus to smear Prime Minister Harper and his government:

"What he has done – and what adds an element of poetic justice to what, on the evidence, is little more than a drive-by smear – is to rely on voters to skim lightly over facts before reaching a conclusion."

"this government counts on the country to respond emotionally, not analytically.".

Translation for us dummies: Prime Minister Harper is counting on our laziness and gullibility to win us over.

But not all of us are as slothful and oafish as Travers thinks that Harper thinks we are:

"the Conservative agenda remains out of sync with urban and eastern sensibilities"

If only that merry band of left-wing dreamers-and-schemers over at One Yonge Street could get a crack at running this country, what a glorious socialist utopia we would have!

In any case, the Leader of the Unofficial Opposition is metaphorically wetting his pants with glee over the gong show:

"But, hey, why let facts get in the way of a good story? It's just so much more entertaining to sit back and enjoy a little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your pants."

If Travers is actually attending the madhouse today, maybe he ought to bring along a fresh change of clothes.

AEK - I try very hard not to read Traversty. Hard on the blood-pressure.

Gabby, didn't you know that the LPC speaks for 'all Canadians'? They have a God-given entitlement to it. I'm sure it's in the Charter somewhere.

This must be true Jo, Dion tells us that the Liberals are sitting on their hands because Canadians DO NOT want an election.

Now Dion, the knower of all that is to be known, tells us that we DO want an election.

God given entitlement to their entitlements...or something like that.

(sorry for swerving off of the topic road and into the ditch)

Just remember that it was in large part on the insistance of Szabo's party that's costing taxpayers millions in this exercise. I think that the opposition is looking much worse after today than it did a few weeks ago...actually....I think this is a Christmas gift for Harper and the conservatives.

Ah yes, I totally forgot about that. Yesterday, while searching for some info., I happened upon an interview that St. Pierre granted to Radio-Canada personality Madeleine Poulin. I had forgotten how arrogant and condescending he was.
Trudeau also claimed that, though retired, he was speaking for 'all Canadians' in opposing the Meech Lake Accord.
He also talked of the great Charter that HE HAD GIVEN to Canadians.

I fear I may have strayed into the ditch with Platty ... ;-)

Joanne,

I'm sorry to have subjected you to The Star Clown.

Would that be the incident where his pants slid down?

When Szbo was interviewed by Peter Van Dusen on CPAC yesterday, he didn't seem personally "outraged" at the time.

Perhaps Chairman Szabo should subpoena Ottawa's Chief of Police to explain their "crack policy" to the Ethics Committee?

We must get to the bottom of this!

Now that Shreiber told the circus that the RCMP never questioned him on the airbus/Mulroney affair (Makes the 2.1 M$ settlement more bizarre than ever, dont you think?) and that he basically confirmed Brian did not do anything illegal (No money was ever spoken about during his PM time) and saying that basically he was upset the "country" had unfairly painted him as "lying Brian" (An effective smear work by LIberals and their MSM army):
I wonder how long before the Liberals/MSM start wanting to shut that commitee down and start saying that Harper/Mulroney not waste anymore tax money on the upcoming inquiry either?
I think it is starting to backfire on Libs, big time...
IMO:
Mulroney was smeared and vilified unjustly in the past...Canadians hatred for the man is wrong but was planted by the usual suspects...
I conclude that I want to hear more...We at least owe it to Mulroney.

don't forget that Harper may indeed get the last laugh courtesy of one Mr. David Johnson......think about it?

The RCMP tried to talk with KHS. He pretty much told them to charge him with something or go talk to his lawyers. So this is another road to nowhere, but expect a few opposition MPs to try to take it.

aek, it would be THAT incident, i.e. that as a "detainee" he was not allowed to wear a belt and thus his jeans slid down for an unplanned "reveal" AND the fact that a 72 (?) year-old man was led to his house in handcuffs.
The esteemed Newman (on Friday's or Monday's Politics) was working on the sympathy vote for the impish scallywag.

Enter another blowhard P** from the Liberal party....CP are reporting that the RCMP dispute Shreiber's claims that he wasn't interviewed. Typical Liberal, know nothing, "don't understand ", just happened to be Solicitor General at the time.

Liberal MP Wayne Easter was named solicitor general in the months before the Mulroney-Airbus part of the probe was shut down.

"I do find it surprising that the RCMP wouldn't have followed up further on investigations," he said Tuesday in an interview.

Then again, the national police force was "in a bit of a bind" as it tried to follow leads while fending off accusations that the entire exercise was politically motivated, Easter said.

"What do you think would have happened if the RCMP would have went and interviewed Schreiber within two or three years of the $2.1 million payment to Mulroney?" he said.

"Don't you think that within 20 minutes of that interview that Schreiber would have been saying: 'Hmm, the RCMP was here and they're asking me about Mulroney again. What in the world?' And then the opposition would be saying that Chretien was trying to reopen the investigation."

When it was pointed out that the RCMP probe was supposed to be continuing at that time, Easter said: "Maybe they were investigating on the periphery to see if they could come up with enough information to then go to the key source (Schreiber)."

And wasn't it Irwin Cotler, another Lib, that signed the extradition order several years ago? Now the Libs say it is the Conservatives trying to get him out of the country. (and Greenspan).

Platty, yet somehow he knows that Canadians will want one in February.

Amazing how intuitive the man is.
