Nosy Irene - Update: Redman's no saint either; Irene to apologize - Will Karen?

Latest Update - Irene will apologize to James Moore - CTV.

...Late Wednesday, the NDP confirmed that she "is satisfied" with Moore's explanation.

In a press release, the New Democrats said that "Ms. Matheson has accepted the explanation and offered her apologies."

Akin said that Moore told him that "this has been the worst day of his career."

Earlier in the day, before Mathyssen had backed away from her claims, CTV Ottawa Bureau Chief Robert Fife said he was at a loss to recall if anyone had leveled such allegations against an MP before.

He told CTV Newsnet, "What we are witnessing is a House of Commons in the last month-and-a-half which has really gone into a lot of mudslinging, a lot of effort to ruin people's reputations."

Warren Kinsella also updates his comments.

Stephen Taylor - NDP climbs down.

* * * *

The antics on the Hill just keep getting worse and worse.

And why was Irene Mathyssen looking at looking at Moore's laptop anyway?

Related: Warren Kinsella - Before everyone else wades in on this...

As an aside, what is this about a sitting Premier who admits to possibly "receiving thousands in improper campaign contributions"? Is he referring to Charest? Because the pundits on MDL say that was all proper back then. The rules have changed now. So what exactly is he trying to suggest?

And Karen Redman jumps the shark with snarky, self-righteous unsubstantiated vilification:

Mr. Moore appeared stunned by the allegation, especially after it was amplified by Liberal MP Karen Redman, who said it was a “very serious allegation” and suggested Mr. Moore “look in his heart, perhaps look on his laptop.”

Oh that's really nice, Karen. We voters in Kitchener Centre will remember that one come February.

H/T Adam Radwanski, via National Newswatch.

Oh boy. Liberal bloggers are running with this one - Get a room, James Moore.

Probably the Sunshine Girl.

Totally predictable response from the peanut gallery - This Dipper already has Moore connected with offensive pictures and sexual harassment concerns. Good grief. And what kind of impression will the average viewer get from all this?

Does Moore get a trial before he's hung by this kangaroo court?

Aaron Wherry
thinks Karen Redman is 'soft-spoken'.

Duffy said today that the picture was of Moore's ex girlfriend in a bikini along side his dog.Sounds like a typical summertime vacation photo that we all have in the old photo albums.

"It reflects an attitude of objectifying women," Mathyssen said.

"We know that when women and other humans are objectified and dehumanized they become the objects of abuse."

Funny that the NDP support legalized prostitution but looking at a picture of a girl in a bikini will causes society to collapse.

Good one!

I guess there's more than one Fool on the Hill these days.

that's exactly my thought, why was she looking and why did she tell everyone on national television.

The NDP are insane. Period. Sad that we even waste our time on this stuff.

Irene Mathyssen's seat in the HofC is three rows behind Moore and four seats over.

Unless Mr. Moore has a Jumbotron on his laptop, I just don't see how she could have had much of a view of the screen. But I guess you see what you want to see.

If this was a pic of his ex and his dog, then the NDP member would of known that if she had done the common courtesy of asking him before raising the point of order. This is just another reason of why the NDP will not form a govt, the members spout of before thinking. I hope that Mr.Layton will force her to stand in the house and retract her comments. Joanne, notice how I avoid any comments about Irene in a bikini, it was hard but I did.LMAo

the real question is why moore keeps a photo of his ex girlfriend in a bikini on his laptop?

pretty creepy.

sounds like she's better off as his ex.

I'm by no means a CPC supporter, but I have to say "it was none of Matheyson's business". Also, she didn't know why he was looking at it.

My girlfriend dropped in for coffee at the time this was happening and said maybe he's Xmas shopping - looking for nice lingerie for his wife (she didn't know he wasn't married).

And, how on earth does this relate to violence against woman? Duh.

This proves the NDP are flakes - so sanctimonious.

Ya, they never have had a federal scandal because they've never been government but they sure have had their provincial scandals - O'Learygate, Spudscam, Bingogate to name a few.

You're right Joanne on this one - why was she looking at someone else's laptop?

I wonder if the ndp she probably crawled alnong the floor and came uip beside mr moore to see if she could dig up any garbage.
at least he looks at women and if it's of his exgirlfriend so what with a dog maybe he gave that dog to her and he was looking at how the dog was growing or something I mean what the ndp support give me a break. what they should be doing is supporting battered women in afghanistan. funny they make a big issue of this but when Jean Cretien almost kills a guy from stranglation and people think its a joke thats nothing but this is rediculus I say lets go to an election get a majority conservative government and get this all over with.

Watch Bill Siksay try to defend Irene.

I think this is worth than the Schreiber circus.

I think the NDP are just trying to take this riding in the next election. Does Mr. Moore have a good NDP candidate running against him by any chance.

Mathyssen is beyond lunacy here, a very pathetic attempt which backfired.

Watching Duffy it was clear that everyone, except the NDP, weren't buying her crap and felt that James Moore was being villified for nothing.

It is this type of woman who rants her insanity in public then adds the tag "I speak for all women!" Excuse me?? Would a guy ever dare say that? These nutjobs do NOT speak for me or a great deal of other women.

If I was into frivolous lawsuits (and had money) it would be fun to sue one of them for misreprentation of the facts or have them forced to represent MY and other womens' views too before they get to say they are speaking for me. Whenever I hear that statement I know they are a dishonest self-serving person.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Anne, I think we have hit rock-bottom in drive-by smears in the House of Commons. To insult a fellow MP's character and integrity like this is unconscionable. Why didn't she simply talk to Moore privately and get the facts first? Or talk to his seat-mate?

No, she wanted to make a big scene on National television and then let the chips fall where they may.

She probably hoped the networks would air her accusation in a ten-second sound byte and then move on to the next news item; forever leaving the viewer with the impression that Moore is a voyeur.

I am totally disgusted.

Did anyone notice how Liberal 'whip' Karen Redman jumped on this as well? This after going on about womens equality and rights in question period. I thought the right to choose your own wardrobe would be one of those rights, but I guess the NDP and Liberals are against this.

I missed that. Was it right after Mathyssen's stunt?

Reading Adam Radwanski at the G&M it seems she also tenously linked this to the Montreal massacre by noting that it was the eve of December 6th, in her breatless outrage.

She is not my MP, thank God, but me thinks she needs to hear how disgusting she truly is. I am sure she must have a government email listed for the public, hope it gets well used soon.

If anyone would like to let Karen Redman know how offensive her comments were, she can be reached here - redmak@parl.gc.ca

As a female, I am totally disgusted with both Irene and Karen. They make all females look like idiots.

I suggest that all Conservative females, open their laptops tomorrow, with the scantily clad male I posted on my site.

I totally agree with your first poster, ardvark, so supporting prostitution is okay, it doesn't degrade women, but a picture on a Conservative MP's laptop does? How about Bob Rae's naked butt on National TV? Now, that was disgusting.

Now it's stated that Mrs. Mathyssen will apologize tomorrow. Is an apology enough for what Moore went through this afternoon.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Ruth, I want to know if Karen Redman plans to apologize too. I really hope this teaches her a lesson about thinking and making sure she has all the facts before opening her mouth.

What Irene did was vicious. To try and ruin a man's reputation, just to bring attention to the Montreal murders is truly sickening.

Females like Irene, in a position of power, make all us females look bad.

Her hysterical antics, have made it harder for females to be taken seriously, on serious matters.

To Jeff Davidson: - It's obvious to me that you do not own a dog.

I hate being away from my dog for a few hours, never mind 2/3 of the way across the country...while I'm sitting there waiting for a vote to be called, as was James Moore.

The NDP get more pathetic every day, good luck trying to get the Liberal vote.

CTV is just saying that Mathyssen will apologize tomorrow in the HOC. CPAC had this on a few minutes ago too. Nothing mentioned about Redman.

This is a character assassination attempt of the worst kind. It was all about the timing, right? Women's rights and all that. She didn't care what kind of damage that would do to James. And Redman backed her up so she could get her little digs in. Never mind checking the facts.

I am sickened. Absolutely sickened and disgusted by the whole lot of them. They should hang their heads in shame.

CTV has 18 comments, all slamming the NDP member over this. CtV has closed the comments after only 18?

Today two schools had to be locked down because of a gunfight. Toronto is seeing more and more murders. Cancer is killing millions. Note to NDP and Liberal MP's: There are more important issues to focus on, instead of bikinis and a former PM 14 years removed from office.

Joanne, Andrew Coyne has been running a contest to find a snappy name to describe the Mulroney/Schreiber fiasco.

I believe poster "paulstuff" has an even better idea. You should start a contest for the "Idiot of the Year Award" as he suggested.

I was going to start my own personal "Cretin Hall of Fame" to which a Montreal radio personality has already been inducted by me alone, but I think a national award should be started.

Maybe there should be another category - most venomous attacks.

Complain directly to this woman. She has utterly shredded the credibility of the NDP. She should be punished by the house. karen Redman is just a petty gossip.
Liberals never actually apologize do they?

Now, had Moore been ogling a buff and scantily clad dude, with an eye to stealing a $50,000 bauble for the fellow -- d'ya think that Irene and Karen would have been at all forgiving, or is this all merely an anti-conservative-male slime-by mudsling?

Will these "progressives" soon be calling for a Bikini-Registry? Will these "progressives" be showing up at the next gay parade where my buddies and I try to get "objectified" by cavorting in nothing but smiles and dental floss?

Will these two moronic MPs ensure that their apologies are as far-reaching as their damaging innuendoes and criminally-oriented false connections to mysogonistic mass-muder have been spread around the globe?

Protection of the House or not, when these evil contentions make it out of the House and onto international television, Moores has justification for legal action. I'll chip in for this. Apologies alone will not suffice.

TangoJuliette sez to Jeff D:

What's truly "creepy" is your attempt to diminish the demented attempt make Moores out to be some sort of mad killer gunman ready to shoot down any untold number of innocent women, because he has some photos of his "ex" on his laptop? Or is he the "mad killer" merely because he is a wihte conservative male?

"The government has no right in the bedrooms of the nation," said P.E.T., right?

But the leftist nutbar "progressive" nanny statist have every right in the HardDrives of the politicians?

Jeff. You're still defending the indefensible. Looks good on you.
