Brenda Martin found guilty

CTV reports that Brenda Martin has been found guilty and gets five years. Her mother is being shown live on Newsnet right now. I feel sorry for her.

Star - No parole.

Update: Martin expected to be moved to Canadian prison soon. (Globe)

Let's see now....she had no visa to work in Mexico for the ten years she was down there, being in the employ of a fellow Canadian. She now has the nerve to claim she's entitled to severence pay under MEXICAN LAW, notwithstanding she was technically an 'illegal alien' at the time! Doens't this seem a little ironic?

I make no apologies for the fact I haven't a shred of sympathy for her.

As an aside, 'illegal alien' in Mexico is just a tad oxymornic!

Gee, I am so sad for her. Guess her friend can cash in her ticket.
With the mother and others talking about corruption in Mexico, she should have had a better lawyer (didn't she refuse those suggested by the cdns) is not going to help her. Now her father has shown up, after a 50 year absence. Such a loving man.
Wait for the book, they will make a mint.
Huge fine to be paid, but a transfer is supposed to be in the works. Will she agree to jail time in Canada.
Let the condemnations of our govt begin.

let the whining and complaining begin.

She can prove it's Harper's fault - just watch the media let her rant on

Wow, Seriously, I was guessing guilty ,time served and a police escort to the airport and the first plane out of the country to Canada. Is seriously surprised.

The coverage of this by cbc is sickening. The poor mother, she should take lessons from Hillory on phony tears. Me, I cheer for the Judge.
Will all her supporters come up with the fine. How much is that in cdn money.

Coincidentally, a former college classmate of mine is down in Mexico with her husband, coincidentally selling condos! Unlike our esteemed prison beauty contest winner, these two didn't leave Canada without all of the applicable visas and related paperwork.

I wonder why Paul Martin visited her. Perhaps he thought they might be related. Or perhaps it was a photo-op, timed oh so close to the Libranos pseudo scandal of the day we've been enjoying so much of.

Wait for Fife, Oliver and Giggles to be all over this being Harper's fault and wondering aloud "what' he going to do about it".

I can see them blaming the government if she was innocent and sitting there, but now with a guilty verdict, I don't think anyone can change that.
Bet she likes the sun and the other beauty queens too much to come home to finish her prison term.

Her supporters have condemned the Mexico Justice system all along because Brenda had not been found guilty of anything and she was sitting in jail - well now she has been found guilty since finally her legal team allowed her case to actually go to trial on the charges.
Her freind Tieleman was quoted as saying

Tieleman said she believes Martin will be acquitted.

"The judge is an educated and reasonable man and having read the case, there's no way a reasonable person would find her guilty," she said.

"It's been a very complex case that has taken the Mexican authorities a while."

So maybe at least blame will not be placed now on the judge as incompetent etc. since Tieleman said the "judge is an educated and reasonable man"

Gee Giggles Taber asking Brenda's mom if she thinks the Canadian Govt has done all they can?

Idiot media.

Although I was not moved to tears during the entire exposure of Ms. Martin's travails, I regret she was found guilty, and WORSE, sentenced to 5 more years.

However, I still maintain much of her trouble stems from all the public recriminations against the procedures and accusations of corruption levelled at the Mexican government.

AND her latest lawyer as well as other "helpers" engaging in verbal diarrhea, even going so far as to predict the judge would be amenable to a deal to whisk her out of Canada as soon as possible, may have led the judge to dig in his heels to show who's boss ... you know, that legendary Latin machismo.

Dan McTeague just said in an interview "it is the government's fault"
Can someone explain how it is possible that Martin is found guilty because of the Canadian government?

Everything bad that happens anywhere to anyone is Stephen Harper's fault.

The ctv coverage with giggles, Brenda's mom and Liberal MP Daniel McTeague on MDL was a bit too much. Despite that though, I do hope that she gets a quick transfer to Canada

Ah. The difference between conservatives and human beings. It's good to be reminded.

Ezra just delivered an awesome smack-down on MDL.

We have our Prime Minster at a Summit and Giggles on Mike Duffy Live contacts Stockwell Day who is attending the Summit with the P.M. and all she asks, "how quickly can he get Brenda Martin home"... and "did they become involved because of all the criticism they are getting at home for not getting involved sooner"... Nothing about what was taking place there... it would be too positive for the P.M. but she did say she would have a panel on later to talk about the in and out scandal and the P.M. remarks. (she is so liberal bias, I refuse to watch her any more) Now you tell me, this media is not liberal bias... Iggy was on T.V. this morning... asked 2 or 3 different ways if they did the same thing in their election spending, he refused to answer the question. Something is definitely wrong.. a liberal signed that warrant... a liberal ca merman was at Conservative Headquarters before the raid took place.... just something is wrong here.... Iggy was asked if they had prior warning... he said - "not that he knew"!... They are in this mess way over their heads... it will come out....

The CPC needs to hire Ezra to be their Public Relations man. He knows how to communicate clearly and understandable. He could be the conservative version of Mr. Kinsella.
Ezra is a fighter.

It doesn't matter what the Conservative government does in Brenda's case or with any file The opposition and the MSM will always criticize. Nothing is ever good enough.

They hate PM Harper and the CPC and will do anything to bring them down.

Ah, the perfect illustration of progressive arrogance. It needs no reminder.

However, you are forgiven because, as your moniker and avatar indicate, you're a dog lover, as am I, so you CAN be redeemed.

I like this quote in the middle of The Toronto Star story:

The Prime Minister did, however, have this to say when he learned that Mexico would be the host of the next "three amigos" summit, as it's called.

"I can tell you, Canadians are always delighted to visit Mexico in the wintertime, so keep that in mind."

It has nothing to do with Martin. It's purpose appears to be to make Harper seem callous and uncaring.

Or am I just paranoid?

Unknown said...

Dawg, thanks for reminding me how shallow, inarticulate, and plain stupid liberals are

Unknown said...

BTW Dawg, I can only remember one recent occurrence where a Canadian Prime Minister successfully intervened with a sovereign nation to release a Canadian citizen accused of a crime. I think the dudes last name was Khadr, and the Prime Minister was Chretien. How did that work out anyway? (No I'm not comparing Martin to Khadr, but a sovereign country is a sovereign country)

"The difference between conservatives and human beings. It's good to be reminded."

Ah the good Dr. stops by to smear and run.

Give me a friken break Dr., this has nothing to do with empathy for Brenda, she has burned up any empathy with her demands to be looked after at the same time as she is thwarting every effort to help her.

And for the Liberals to then turn around and state that they know the PM did NOTHING is plain ludicrous - do they have a camera and a microphone in the PMO - actually, given what happened last week, they probably do.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

I think I see where the sideshow is coming from...

I wonder if Ms Brenda's sentence would have been different, had she and her supporters NOT so publicly criticized the Mexican judicial system.
'Experts' recommend keeping a low profile and let the negotiators work for you.
Was she made an example of? to discourage others.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Wilson, exactly. Being so vocal may have worked against her to a certain extent. On CTV they were talking about the Mexican judicial system having to 'save face'.

OMMAG said...

The LIbs and their pets in the MSM are slipping...!

No one blamed Bush for any of this!

Joanne (True Blue) said...

OMMAG - lol!

BTW, Rosemary Barton of CBC was just on saying that the Mexican officials can't wait to get rid of Brenda Martin, given that she has been so 'demanding' and had so many media interviews.

I predict she will be back in Canada within the week.

Unknown said...

Conrad Blak was given a heavy sentence partially because he arrogantly criticised the process. Liberals applaud. Brenda Martin is possibly given a higher sentence because she denigrates a proud developing nations entire justice system. Liberals blame Harper.

Anonymous said...

Didn't Brenda Martin once say she would not serve time in Canada under any circumstances. The MSN keep saying there was no evidence against her but unless my eyes decieve me at her last appearance in that court office they had stacks of documents. Aside from being in Mexico illegally, and not paying taxes, did she not brag to an Edmonton reporter about getting thick wads of cash to buy groceries to cook? Did she not also brag about being given thousands of dollars to put into her bank account only to take it back out to give to Waage? I see a paper trail leading to her charge of money laundering.

Can't wait to see Ezra's MDL interview on youtube.
It was sooooooooooo good.
The Lib and Dipper panelists were left speechless, literally.

Nope. She has to wait 5 business days before the transfer process can even begin. So she can't start the process until next tuesday. According to Lisa Laflamme.

And also, if she came to Canada she wouldn't actually go to prison. Once transfered here she'd get double credit for time served pre-verdict. She'd go straight to parole.

Hey Reid, Dion is looking for star female candidates, maybe she could be appointed as Liberal candidate for the next election.

I don't see it on the CTV website. Too bad! It was a thing of beauty.

Now we have the spectacle of Dan McTeague and all the other bone- headed opposition badmouthing the Mexican justice system. And this on a day when Mr. Baltovitch, who spent 18 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, is finally set free. He joins a long list of wrongly convicted people who have been deprived of much more than the two years Ms. Martin has lost. Yet the opposition, in their usual hypocritical manner, choose to ignore our flawed system while they attack that of another sovereign nation.

A letter to Mike Duffy
Dear Mr. Duffy
Strange that the Ezra Levant segment is conspicuous by its' absence on the Mike Duffy Live section of the CTV web page.
I expect the explanation and excuse for this omission will be a doozer.
The best you can do Mike is make it clear to your viewers, you have nothing to do with what appears in your section, but even given that, you should complain for this partisan and selective suppression. Your good name deserves better treatment than this by both superiors and inferiors, and not a suspicion that you would be a party to any such nefarious connivance.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Good points, Powell. Dan McTeague has been particularly annoying lately.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Wow! Great letter, Anon!! Well done. Please let me know if you get a response. It seems all the good stuff gets left off the site.

Just viewed crack journalist Jane Taber interview Ms. Martin's mother on MDL.

Ms. Taber introduced her as Marjorie BELcher. Mrs. BLETcher corrected her, but later in the interview, Ms. Taber again called her Marjorie BELcher.

I thought I'd write that comment for comic relief. After all, Ms. Taber's nickname IS Giggles.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Thanks for the chuckle, Gabby. ;)

What!!! No Ezra on tape, MDL...

He started out by saying (not exact)

'What I've just listen to makes me sick to my stomach!'

'Mr. Bodria and my other (?) are more friggin' concerned about scoring cheap political points than about ...'

It was ... heartwarming (haha)
