Brenda's back in the headlines

After having had a brief reprieve from the Brenda Martin saga, we see that she's back in the news today - Brenda Martin in tears at final hearing:

Brenda Martin, held in a Mexican prison for over two years on fraud charges, burst into tears at her final hearing Monday after the judge said he wouldn't guarantee a ruling in her case by Friday.

The Mexican judge apparently wasn't moved by her tears and maintains that he is entitled to 30 business days to make a decision.

The evidence against her seems to be circumstantial at best.

So anyway, I'm just curious. Have your feelings about this situation changed at all? Do you feel more sympathetic now, or less, or no change?

Did you see all the people, was that her Mom? Who paid her way down there? Were any Liberal MP's there?

It was a circus, and Brenda was the trained seal, oops... monkey. What a photo op: Brenda cries, needs her meds, needs more attention, needs, needs, needs.

I'm sick of it, and her.

Nothing has changed for me, she chose Mexico to be her home for 10 years so she has to live with their laws. Even if we bring her back to Canada, is she going to stay for our long cold winters, or slip away to Mexico again.

I didn't give a crap about her then...and not any more or less now

When in a country other than Canada, mind your manners.

It was a circus

Even Lisa LaFlamme called it a circus! She said that Brenda had to keep taking bathroom breaks.

I just hope this ends soon. I'm getting sick of it too.

My opinion has changed a few times since this story broke. My wife and I had met Brenda in P.V. in 2001 after her employment with Wagge. We stayed at a Toronto owned boutique hotel where Brenda was a very likeable and friendly concierge. I still recommend the place and I personally liked Brenda. She helped make our visit memorable.
I was on her side emotionally at first. When she made her denigrating comments on the consulate office there I felt that the consulate ought to be looked into. (Reports seem to suggest that they did their job well but a further review may be called for with a public report.) Once upon a time any incident outside of Mexico City during the Trudeau era was subcontracted to the British Consulate so at least that has improved.
I turned against Brenda when her supporters tried to make it a partisan political issue and I commented at the time to let her twist in the wind or some such.
Her supporters may be the problem. Brenda has one out with me if it is proven that Tielman in K-W is the partisan witch.
The knuckledraggers in the Liberal party are attempting to make political hay with this.

Not a damn thing has changed for me -
Quite honestly, the more it goes on, the more I can't stand her...
She yells out to someone today in the crowd of people, "oh, its ok, they just gave me a shot(needle). I'll be ok now"!
She disgusts me!
Friggin' drunk, who couldn't keep it together, and now she turning into a "junkie", playing with suicide threats and using our country to cover her crooked ass!
Sorry! I'm sick of her and the bull she's pulling!
Seriously - I hope they find her "guilty" and keep her there for another five years!

Sorry - I'm not usually so rude, or un-supportive, but I'm thinking she in need of an even ruder awakening! I sense her game-playing and she deserves this to smack her in the mouth...HARD!
Again, I'm sick of her!
And I hope she stays in Mexico when it's all said and done.
She's an embarrassment to CANADA!

I agree with most of the previous comments, I too am sick of her. I don't know why everyone expects laws in other countries to be like ours and is shocked when they are not. My offspring has been to 23 countries (he loves to travel), but he minds he p's and q's and doesn't get into trouble. Brenda lived in Mexico illegally and they take that very seriously...ciao

I wish the Ianeiros could receive as much publicity, support, government involvement, and RESOLVE!
I'm disgusted and embarrassed that Canada is even wasting time with this twit!
She chose to abandon Canada, move to the sunny south of Mexico and work in a drunken stupor as a chef!
She couldn't keep a job, got herself in trouble and she did that in Mexica. That would make Mexico's laws and justice system apply. So, she should stay there and do her time! Once that's done, she can continue to live there, and leave Canada and the Canadian people alone.
Why are we to bail her out now?
Shouldn't we be assisting with some of the other more important issues where Mexico is concerned. We have un-solved murders there that affect our TRUE, live at home Canadians!
She's nothing but a traitor, and only wants our help cause she messed up -
Figure it out folks! If all was well and she'd gotten away with it, She wouldn't think of, or look twice at Canada -
She using us!

You know she kinda reminds me of Karl Heinz Schrieber in the sense that she seems to love attention and that the Liberals use both of them to try to embarrass the Conservative government.
I too am tired of her whining. If she's guilty let her serve her sentence. If she's innocent, let her come back but I want her to live in obscurity and please leave us alone.

Where is the compassion for the two cdn men who have been in jail, in Canada, without trial for almost 2 years. There were arrested in the mounties death in AB. Today they appeared in court and were granted bail. Guess they didn't take lessons in crying. It worked for Hillory and seems to work for Brenda. Remember, she said she would not come back to Canada to do jail time. I hope the judge takes the full 30 days and then finds her guilty, of at least being in the country illegally.

The real faker in this, is Dan McTeague. I just about burst out laughing at the expression on his face on MDL. Talk about the funeral director face, if he loses the next election he will be a great catch for a funeral home.
Come on voter this guy is too artificial!!

Absolutely nothing has changed my opinion. I sort of / kind of had a little sympathy for her in the beginning, but the day that her mother appeared on television and stated that her daughters "blood is on your hands Mr. Harper", poof - there went it all. Added to that are the Liberal visits that were so welcomed, yet the government members that went down were only there for a photo-op?
The more I hear from/about this woman and her supporters, the farther I distance myself from her plight. She has already stated that she will not do jail time in Canada if convicted in Mexico, so exactly where would she expect to go?
Tired of the entire debacle. As my learned grandmother used to say...something about making a bed??

What a compassionate bunch.

I only know what Dan McTeague listed as evidence against her in his TV interview. It was quite clear from that that her actions did constitute money laundering. Whether she intended to do it or was tricked by her boss I can't guess. However, being "tricked" into committing a crime is no excuse, although it might mitigate sentencing.
I'm expecting she'll be convicted. If so, I hope the Mexicans decide to keep her.

Brenda apparently has IBS which could explain all the bathroom breaks yesterday morning.

Anonymous said...

Brenda has everything, apparently!
IBS, a drinking problem, now a drug problem...Poor her -
And we should bring her back here because...?
Do I sound compassionate to her plight - NO!
In fact, I hope they sentence the woman, after the thirty days allotted to the judge, and they keep her there for the whole sentence - I think five years sounds good!
She seems to think that if she's sentenced that she can come back to Canada, and not have to serve any time - What the hell is so special about this woman that exempts her from serving a sentence put forth by a judge. That allows her to dictate what's going to happen here should she be allowed to return to Canada (I can't call it home for her, remember she left Canada to LIVE in Mexico)
So IBS, tears and whining aside, what the hell gives her permission to dictate what's going to happen from here on...
She a criminal in a foreign country. She spent her days drunker than a skunk, working for a scam artist where she gave herself permission to be insulting to his mother. He had to fire her! And then she gets a severance that totals one years salary, and she didn't even work for him a whole year! Ten months to be exact, and where I come from that would have barely allowed for her to collect one WEEK'S severance pay. And I don't know too many who have collected severance pay after being FIRED!
On top of that, she further gave him back almost $10,000 to re-invest with him -
Don't tell me she didn't know what he was up to - She was just as "easy" to throw her hard earned severance pay into doubling/tripling her money, and well usually those easy money making schemes are exactly that, a SCHEME - A SCAM!
She now trying to pull the wool over every Canadian's eyes, and makes us "poor her" and her story!

Sorry - It ain't working for me!
And I hope she stays there after her sentence...Considering that's where she thought life would be cheap and easy for her to begin with...
Like the comment posted at 0251hrs,
she made her bed...
And did you see the whole story on her attendance to the beauty pageant the prison held...She actually skipped her weekly phone call home to "mommy" in order to participate...
Can't be all that bad there, if she's into participating in activities such as that...
I shake my head!
Shame on her!

Here's an interesting link on Ms. Martin and her time spent in Mexican prison...Seems we really do only get "parts" of every story surrounding that woman -

Ms. Martin was also the topic of discussion on 940 Montreal between 10 & 10:30, with her friend Debbie being interviewed again. I only caught the very end of it, so I can't really comment on it.

If Ms. Martin suffers from IBS, would that explain her reported weight loss?

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Gabby, all I know about IBS, is that it can be caused by a variety of factors, including stress, and could very likely lead to weight loss due to diarrhea etc.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

And did you see the whole story on her attendance to the beauty pageant the prison held...She actually skipped her weekly phone call home to "mommy" in order to participate...

Brenda apparently disputed that point. She said they both happened at different times.

Anonymous said...

Brenda disputes everything that makes her look bad...
True or false! She's got an answer for everything...
Makes it hard to believe anything from her...And that in itself is getting OLD!

She crooked! Just like her ex-boss...

Ok let's play a game!

You guess what I think about Martin... K?

Hint....see Hunter's comment at the top!

So...
"If I don't get help, I'm going to kill myself",
"but today there's a beauty pageant on, and well, I really want participate in this one..."

What a beaut!

To your question: yes, my impression on the situation has changed since I first heard the distraught woman pleading on MDL back in March. (Hadn't seen the W5 feature.) Since then, well, step by step my sympathy for her cause has eroded. It's more than the fact that her supporters used the microphones to rail against the Government (within the same breath as their plea for compassion and help.) It's just that I started feeling "suckered" as details and subsequent intervues unfolded.

Lisa's "Brenda Segment" on tonight's (tues.) CTV National: Noticeably different tone than those we were watching a month ago. A detectable hedging, and Lisa sounded not quite as blindly supportive.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Donny, I think you've mirrored my thoughts exactly. I caught a bit of Lisa's report too, and what struck me was how Brenda already has a business plan set to go when she gets back to Canada - selling arts & crafts done by women in the prison.

Hard to believe that a woman that depressed could formulate such a plan, and have such a dramatic change of expression when discussing it.

I think we've been had. Just like KHS, as was mentioned earlier.

Brenda and her team of lawyers has finally allowed her case to go to trial on the specific charges. Until now her team has fought her case on some constitutional grounds and lost so their gamble did not pay off and just increased her stay in jail until the charges were dealt with.
Now that her trial has begun on the charges she is demanding a verdict from the judge by Friday - good luck . Can you imagine her making the same demand here in Canada and telling the judge when he must render his verdict?

Anonymous said...

You said it!
She good, man! She good!
Let's see now if she was able to pull it off on the Mexican judge who will be rendering a verdict in this case...
And let's hope that I never run into her somewhere in this big ol' world - She'll learn quickly that I WAS NOT one of her supporters...
What goes around, comes around -
Let her be, set her free, and then we'll see what happens...You get what you put forth, and usually ten-fold - Good luck to her on that one!
She's played upon the Canadian people long enough...
And I stand firm, there are much bigger, and more important stories coming out of good 'ol Mexico that involve REAL, INNOCENT, Canadian people that deserve our assistance. That deserve Canada's help way more than this manipulating, self-serving woman...
Think Lisa Laflamme got to see first hand just how much of game this was...
And now a business venture?
You're right Joanne - That's some depression! Wish I could sample some of that kind...I Would have made dreams come true and millions to boot in that mode...
LMAO...

Anonymous said...

No verdict today, eh!
Now she's has to wait until Tuesday...Apparently this is because she wanted a translated version of the proceedings.

Wonder what this weekend will bring to us where she's concerned...?

Joanne (True Blue) said...

A translated version? You've got to be kidding.

Anonymous said...

680 News on a quick news re-cap this afternoon, announced that it was delayed until Tuesday because she insisted on a written english translated version of the court proceedings... This has delayed his delivering his decision until next week!

Wondering how she reacted to that? Wonder who's going to be held accountable and at fault for that one...God knows she will take no ownership should she decide to criticise the delay...
