John Tory plans first stage of tax phase-out

In keeping with his promise of getting rid of the hated health tax, John Tory explains the first stage of its elimination:

“One of my immediate priorities as Premier will be to eliminate Dalton McGuinty’s regressive tax for every single Ontarian earning between $20,000 and $30,000 a year,” Tory said. “On January 1, 2008, one million hard-working Ontarians will see their tax burden reduced – the very people who were hardest hit by Dalton McGuinty’s massive tax hike.”

Well, John, I don't like to be negative, but I've had a lot of Liberal supporters tell me they really like that health tax.

So, maybe you could phase it out for everyone but them.

Just so they don't miss old Dalton too much.

That is music to my ears because having just experienced the Ontario health care system, there is no improvement there.

I hope it is music to a lot of Ontario voters.

Lemmings might appear to love that health tax Joanne, but it's because they follow their leader as any good lemming will don't'ya know.

Well, I guess I'll be in the second phase to receive the tax cut. That's quite alright with me, throwing Dalton McGuinty's Liberals out of office will be worth the $900 for one more year. :)

Matt, at least there is light at the end of the tunnel with Tory.

Ontario is racing to the bottom for education results, surely we can get to last place in health care as well?

If the big unions are happy - the television says nice things - and that is what the people of Ontario want.

This alone should be enough to get the PCs elected. Sadly, it doesn't appear to be working out that way.

As a hardworking taxpayer I feel an enormous sense of betrayal by my people and find myself asking "what the hell am I doing living in Ontario anyway?"

It's not that I hate Ontario; it's that Ontario hates me and people like me: men who work their asses off, obey the law, and pay their taxes. It won't take much for me to take my education, basic human decency, and nest egg somewhere more appreciative, and I suspect others thing the same way.

That's just it, anon. When canvassing I'm meeting many small c conservatives who think that if Dalton wins re-election, leaving the province would be an option to consider. That's really saddening that the ignorance of some voters and Liberal politicians are driving out those who really care.

They can trade places with all those leftists that claimed they would leave the US after GWB got reelected.

Perhaps this isn't the time and place, but I'm putting the onus on you, LS, to briefly explain to me why I should live in Ontario.

It's just not a very good place for an educated law abiding productive citizen to live anymore. The cops suck. The weather sucks. The economy is flatter than TiGuy's latest teen boy crush (see Ont GDP figures).

The demographic forecast calls for pain, the people aren't as friendly as they once were, and the service in restaurants and shops is poor.

Prices are high and so are taxes. Healthcare is better elsewhere if you can pay for it, and I certainly can. The schools are awful, the employment equity laws are racist and sexist as hell, and the newspapers are stupid talking down to stupid.

Let's hear your side of the story LS. Sell me on this splendid province you call Ontario.

anon,

Who is keeping you here? I for one will not miss you.

it's funny.

I keep hearing about the tolerance and love for diversity from the left, but all I see is that the left are only tolerant and inclusive as long as others agree to your terms.

As for ontario, if people on the right exit this province, sick of what the left is doing to it, what will you have left? A homogenious nanny state where everyone will feel entitled to everything, yet no one will want to PAY for it.

Sounds more of a recipe for disater than a positive outcome for this once great province.

The ROC will have to pay for it.
