Throne speech - drawing a line in the sand

If today's throne speech mirrors the content of the National Post editorial (A speech we'd like to hear), I'll be quite happy.

I would only add some kind of plan to actually bring about the law and order changes that we so desperately need here in Canada, and that the unelected Liberal-dominated Senate seems hell-bent on delaying - specifically the bill raising the age of consent from 14 to 16. With the close-in-age exemption of 5 years, why would the Liberals not want to put some teeth in this disgusting loophole, and thereby send some of the pedophiles packing for sunnier shores?

It's time for the opposition to either get on board or else defeat this government. Another session like the last one is a waste of everyone's time and money.

Harper needs to say, 'You're either with me, or you're against me'.

Or he could say "You are for Canada or against it.
For the Libs it has been the game and the power of politics first and running the country came as a burden with the position.
For Harper, it's about governing the country, and he seems to enjoy the politics as a perk of the position.

It is amazing that Jack Layton will never negotiate with the Government when it comes to Kyoto, but would have the Government negotiate with the Taliban. But then, Jack is a demagogues and he would have to be a hypocrite.

Wonder why the law and order changes are so important we should have an election over it, but the parts that were agreed to were not important enough.

Recall that most of the changes were ready to go, but the CPC stalled it, wanting to bludgeon all of their changes through.

Why are the CPC against Canada? We are not a second rate country, contrary to your peoples' opinions.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

L.S. - As I understand it, it is the Senate holding up the close-in-age legislation. I've also heard that some Liberals and NDP are having second thoughts and don't want it to go through.

I see. And when the Liberals use the Senate to stall Senate reform and all kinds of legislation, that makes us a first rate country.

Why are the Liberals against democracy? We are not a second rate country contrary to your people's opinions.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Why is the unelected, Liberal-dominated Senate obstructing democracy?

Corrupt Liberals are naturally against a law & order platform because they know they're guilty.

Personally, I would do everything possible to avoid this tactic - nothing could cement his image as a "scary fascist-dictator-in-waiting" quicker.

He should lay out his vision, his agenda, as boldly and confidently as possible, and invite and encourage Canadians to join him.

I think that most will do so, if he does.

Get your own material, stop stealing from others.

Perhaps not, but he would gain huge amounts of respect by dropping all the dissing, insults and bullying.

It's Parliament, not a blog!

Oh, whats the matter, its ok to use terms like yours to describe Tories, but not when its to describe Liberals?

My, but aren't you the precious little Liberal hypocrite.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

O.K. Let's try to keep it civil. Insults from either side only serve to sideline the discussion. Thanks.

No problem, but why use my exact wording? Too hard to think of something else? Using exact wording and actually adding a new twist is always fun, but "I know you are but what am I" belongs in the school yard. Isn't recess over?

My, but aren't you the precious little Liberal hypocrite.

That is your smug opinion, CPC troll. Why can't you make up your own sneering insults? Are you too stupid? Ooops, never mind.

Hahahahaha!

I'm going to have to send both of you to your rooms. No throne speech for you two tonight!

Matt, lol! Now that would be a poison pill they couldn't swallow!!!

Why is my having a different opion than someone else (ie: a liberal supporter) mean I am 'against' Canada.

I'm so tired of hate labeling just because I have a different opinion. When I hear some of these whacked out dipper's go on, it never occurs to me that they hate their country... yeah, I think they are misguided and wrong, but I don't accuse them of hate.

sigh...

The reason you see so much vitriol from liberal supporters is that in their hubris, they equate liberal values with Canadian values.

In their mind, if you are not on that train track, ipso facto, you are anti-Canadian, and do not love your country.

Watch the screeds increase the closer the libs come to being in the wilderness for many years.

Kursk, that seems to be true. Anything other than 'Liberal' values immediately elicit the words "Bush" and "Neocon", etc. etc.

Smug aren't we?

In their mind, if you are not on that train track, ipso facto, you are anti-Canadian, and do not love your country.
Your leader says we are second rate.

Watch the screeds increase the closer the libs come to being in the wilderness for many years.

Therefore you can ignore 60% of the population.

Typical.

No, bringing in a police state does that.

But a police state is certainly "other than 'Liberal' values"

I agree. But I won't trust him with a majority.

Omar said...

I am afraid that the only way we will be rid of Harper and his bent ideology is to unfortuantely experience him in full on majority rule.

You pays your money and you takes your chances.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Exactly.

L.O. - Who would you rather have as PM right now? Harper or Dion? Honestly.

Anonymous said...

"police state?" You mean in the streets? We didn't make this up.

Oh, and what a laugh riot this blog is today "Liberal values" - like what? Helping themselves and their friends to OUR money, 13 years of what?.....NOTHING!!!

Nope, I'm wrong. 13 years did get us something. It got us to the 2nd rate status that Harper is trying to get us out of.

Thanks for nothing lemmings.

TangoJuliette sez:

"...You pays your money and you takes your chances..." Not at all a bad concept. Much better than the Old Government of the Liberals. You remember them?

AThey're the putzie yutzes w2who've been using Canada and the electorate as a self-serving battleground for their never ending Hatfield and McCoy nonsense. They don't give a tinkers darn for Canada nor for Canadians.

The Liberal -- The Naughtily [nastily, nefariously] Governing Party of Canada? "...They takes your money and leave you with no chances, just chump change ..."

We've had their brown enveloped majority.

Time to get the butt kicking boot on the other foot, folks.

LibSupports All! Can you folks really bend over and touch your toes?

Wait for it!!

Yee-HAH!! a la Gov.

I can, but not while Steve and his goons are near.

The people be rioting in the streets within a year of a Harper majority. The turning point will be when the Police, ordered by the CPC commander to fire on the crowds, refuse.

Wait for it indeed.

Omar said...

Harper or Dion?

Honestly? Stephane Dion. Hands down. Harper and his Mafioso persona has an image crisis down this way. If Dion were leader of the Conservatives you'd likely have your majority.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

That much animosity, eh? Wow.

If Dion were leader of the Conservatives you'd likely have your majority.

Now there's a nightmare scenario!

Omar said...

Harper keeps shooting himself in the foot down here because he talks the tough talk, but will then shamlessly back peddle when it suits his political need. That is not a leader. It will be interesting to see if he reverses his iron-fist stance on Bill Casey. That is going to be a big deal down here and if does cave to the riding association and reinstate Casey then he looks the conniving side-stepper once again. That is not a leader.

~ of course the Conservatives wouldn't get a majority with Dion at the helm, but he would certainly gain votes from former Atlantic PC'ers like myself.

Omar said...

Perhaps it was you folks who elected the wrong leader.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

L.O. - Well, we'll have to agree to disagree on Harper. You see him as the devil incarnate and I see him as the best Prime Minister Canada ever had.

The Bill Casey situation is a bit of a conundrum though...

Omar said...

oh look..the Throne Speech has been leaked! Big surprise there.

Omar said...

the best Prime Minister Canada ever had.

How? Where do you possibly see that? I mean, that is just so over the top that it sounds unhinged. A minority leader who has been in power less then 2 years? The best we've ever had? You're kidding, right? Tongue in the old check, eh? Nudge-nudge, wink-wink, right?
Come, on.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

No, I'm serious. Call me delusional if you like. I'm feeling this is just the beginning of great things.

What do you mean the throne speech has been leaked?

What's the alternative?

Truly science fiction. Dion's left of centre, almost in NDP territory, so not bloody likely.
