If you haven't voted yet...

Please read Joe Warmington's column - McGuinty not only skipped a last chance to debate the issues with his rivals, he also missed getting an earful from this voter. (H/T ASTTR)

I was disappointed because I had a number of questions for him -- including why doesn't he have a Support Our Troops ribbon on his campaign bus as the other leaders do?
...I find it a strange statement coming from a guy who put through the Highway of Heroes designation for the 401...
I don't find it strange at all. Dalton is allergic to controversy, and will do anything at all to avoid it.

Four more years of slippery McGuinty.

Even the far left NDP and Greens are able to get over their opposition to the war and put support our troops decals on their campaign busses, but dalton mcguinty hasn't done so. for shame!

Are there really absolutely no journalists or reporters who noticed that throughout the campaign?

"Dalton doesn't support the troops"

I win! Pay up, RT!!!!

Hahahaha!

LS — LOL. Sure as... well, you know what. A little late in the game though.

Frankly, I'm shocked and puzzled. Warren Kinsella is a big troops supporter, and he's pretty well controlled this whole campaign. I don't understand the lack of decals.

McGuinty caved to the "Highway of Heroes" of whatever it's called, what more do you want? Some people find ribbons, decals and metal pins to be quite offensive emblems — not because of what they purport to represent, but because of what they implicitly suggest. Check out the recent flap over Obama on this score to get a better picture of how the sides split on this.

Joanne, do you think that if you have a yellow ribbon on your car (or bus) you're supporting the troops and if you don't have one, you're not?

Is that what you really think?

Or do you think that if a politician you don't like doesn't have a ribbon on their bus, it's an opportunity to perhaps score cheap political points by making the ridiculous charge that he must not support the troops?

I can't believe I'm even going to the trouble to type this out.

I must have missed the day when all Canadians agreed that the determining marker of someone's support or lack thereof for the troops shall be the presence or conspicuous absence of a stupid yellow ribbon stuck to their car.

One last question (to which I expect the answer is "no")- do you take cheap shots like this at people you disagree with in other aspects of your life?

Matt, there are a lot of things that are just being reported now.

Funny that.

Joanne — Ah, yes... the "media just waking up from their slumber" meme. Puh-leeze. Maybe nobody has "noticed" it because it's a complete non-issue and attention has been cast on it by those who are absolutely desperate for some last minute hot-button issue.

wow, this thread has just encapsulated the campaign in a nutshell.

forget about all the other issues in the article that warmington raised...let's just focus on the superficial issue of whether the bus has a decal on it.

thank you for proving to me once again how easily the elctorate can be swayed...

Really?? There is a support our troops decal on the Green Party campaign bus? I think that the Green Party would be really interested to know that they have a campaign bus.

holy crap...the school where I vote is just across the street...

I have NEVER seen it that busy before!!! Parking lot is full and cars are blocking the entrance!

You appear to be full of it about the NDP having a decal on their bus too.

You never know Joanne... you might get lucky and have a whack of Liberals figuring it's in the bag, so why go vote... after all, Kinsella can only get so many people in his mini-van.

Yes, and it was raining all day today. What Liberals would want to chance getting rain water in their lattes? Now, the Greens should increase their vote since they are nature lovers. The NDP would be unaffected since they are too self absorbed to notice it raining.

While the PCs will feel the tears of an about-to-be-ruined Ontario, tears of sorrow literally falling from the sky, and so will try to save us from ourselves and turn out in droves.

Rain=PC majority!

Who said this?

"We gladly support public education, but we're not going to throw money at it and hope that somehow some of it sticks."

Answer: From the Toronto Star May 14, 2004 right after "McGuinty unburdened himself of the view that Ontario school boards and hospitals can't be trusted with the additional funds he claimed they desperately needed just six months ago."

Yep. And who do we have to thank for that? Paging Joanne…

There aren't any. Meet you same place four years from now and we'll try again.

Jo-Jo, I am assuming a certain courage on your part, especially since you (R) one of them, 'we gotta support the troops 'cause they are bravely defending our freedom of speech and all', people.

Again, assuming you admire courage more than as a Con-venient slogan, I have a question for you:

The Question
I am curious, what is it that justifies deletion of all my comments ... I am certain the answer will be 'delet-ious'
