'Don't give Dalton McGuinty a Blank Cheque'

NDP leader Howard Hampton is begging the people of Ontario to think twice before rewarding Dalton McGuinty's broken promises with another majority government, which would be a blank cheque with little opposition oversight and control.

Hampton points out that McGuinty is acting as if he already won the election:

"I've got news for Dalton McGuinty: That kind of arrogance, that kind of taking the people for granted in Ontario doesn't wash," said Hampton.

Howard has been blaming John Tory's Faith-Based school policy for taking the focus off more important issues, but as I explained earlier, John Tory was not running after reporters and begging to be interviewed on this issue. His mistake might have been that he underestimated the degree to which voters could be distracted with fearmongering and exaggerated rhetoric emanating from the Liberal spinmeisters as they cranked out their daily news releases.

I still believe that of the three leaders, John Tory is the best option. The Sun seems to agree with me - John Tory for Ontario.

However, if you're mad as hell at Dalton McGuinty's broken promises but you can't bring yourself to vote PC, then as Howard says don't Get Mad - Get Orange.

Don't Mess with Tradition
:
A BATTLE IS COMING

The Charter of Rights and Freedom, rightly or wrongly, has successfully been used to challenge the Canadian constitution and the BNA Act Some could even argue that the Charter has made the BNA act and the Constitution irrelevant. I'm betting another battle will happen again in Ontario pretty soon, and McGuinty will have to choose between funding everybody or nobody. I think I know what he will decide.

Catholics, consider yourselves warned.

"Howard has been blaming John Tory's Faith-Based school policy for taking the focus off more important issues"

That is because most of Hampton's base is ticked off at his own gutless stance of supporting the Catholic schools.

"The Sun seems to agree with me"

Really the Sun is supporting a conservative candidate!!!!!! What a total shocker. If Clifford Olsen was running as a Conservative candidate the Sun would make him out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

And if the Liberals were running Alfonse Gagliano again, you'd be falling all over yourself to vote for him.

Poll says Ontario Liberals have 15-point lead
Updated Mon. Oct. 8 2007 6:43 PM ET

CTV.ca News Staff

The Ontario Liberals are sailing to victory with a 15-point lead over the Progressive Conservatives, according to a new poll, despite PC Leader John Tory's promise to hold a free vote on funding faith-based schools.

The Strategic Counsel poll, conducted between Oct. 6 and 7 for CTV News and The Globe and Mail, shows the PC Party bleeding support ahead of Wednesday's vote: (percentage-point change from a Sept. 13-16 poll in brackets):

Liberals: 42 per cent (+2)
Progressive Conservatives: 27 per cent (-7)
NDP: 19 per cent (+3)
Green Party: 11 per cent (-1)

Meh...anything can happen in the next 48 hours.

Howie and Tory are sounding defeatist and bitter. They're acting like they already lost. Howie is lashing out at the media and Tory cried in front of the TorStar editorial board.

If they acted like they were still within striking distance, people would rally to them. If they act like they already lost, well then, people see them as losers.

(On an aside, I don't know what Howie is complaining about so much. He's poised to pick up more seats - perhaps up to 15 - which, in reality, is a victory for the Dippers. It's not like they were going to win a majority government or anything).

I highly doubt the NDP will win more than 11. So that is a pickup of only 1 seat. Look for Hampton to step down as leader, shortly thereafter. Wife Shelley didn't run in Sudbury this time. I think if Howie wasn't the leader he wouldn't have run this time either.

Tory hasn't conceded.

Tory hasn't conceded.

Obviously not officially, and neither has Howie but its the way they act. Lashing out at reporters, crying publicly, etc, etc.

Tory is getting reamed out by his own candidates and has said that if he loses his seat he's going to step down as leader on election night.

All I'm saying is that he doesn't exactly sound and act as optimistic as he was at the outset of this campaign.

Smug Liberals are already counting the loot they get their hands on after the election.

If we pass MMP, this will be the last election ever when the Liberals can be smug with just 42% of the vote. Let's end fake majorities on Wednesday.

Greg, if MMP gets in, this will the one small comfort for me - and the reason why I was originally leaning towards it until I started realizing all the negatives.
