CCP - Go Gentle into that Good Night

Memo to the Court Challenges Program - You are terminal. Let yourself go gracefully.

When you were first created, you may have had a legitimate function and an altruistic vision, but after years of Liberal-leftist domination and self-serving degeneration of principles, you now need to admit that your useful years are over. Time to give it up.

All that remains is your bloodsucking carcass representing a time when Canadians were blissfully unaware that their democratic rights were being slowly and stealthily eroded. But now we common folk are waking up to the consequences of our inattention and spinelessness.

Funding only one side of a social re-engineering project is not only unfair, but downright dangerous for a healthy society.

So CCP, do not rage against the dying of the light.
Just go - You know it's right.

(with apologies to Dylan Thomas)

Bar Association wants the CCP retained!

OTTAWA (CP) - The Canadian Bar Association is urging the federal government to reinstate the court challenges program and restore its budget.

The association says the program, recently cut by the Conservative government, is necessary to protect the constitutional rights of all Canadians, not just those with deep pockets.

Yes I think this is about Someones Pockets!

Joanne (True Blue) said...

lol! PGP - Yes, indeed. I wonder why it is that the unions and the Bar association are crying foul? Hmmm....

I do find it rather ironic that the so-called "culture of life" crowd can't seem to crank out the death metaphors fast enough.

So I guess its life for things that you agree with and death for everything else.

CC - It's a Hallowe'en metaphor. Lighten up!

What about being on the culture of life should make us incapable of doing this?

You don't understand what irony is.

We're talking about the death of a program, not of human beings.

Hey everyone! Check Suzanne Fortin's (ie SUZANNE) record on UseNet (GoogleGroups) where she admits to wanting Jews to convert to Christianity.

Funding only one side of a social re-engineering project is not only unfair, but downright dangerous for a healthy society.

Tell that to Focus on the Family, REAL Women and Big Oil.

Anyway, I've emailed Harpie. Told him his time, short as it was, is coming to an end (boo hoo hoo). And the first move of the next truely Canadian government (and not this thing you freaks elected) is to restore these cuts, which were not financially necessary and purely ideologically motivated.

You fascists better start praying...

if all these unionist, feminists, socialists, communists, stalinists, anarchists etc think that thier particular injustice fight has wide spread support then they sould have no trouble raising money for it. If they can't then tough. Now if only we could get rid of these so called "human rights" commissions

Tell that to Focus on the Family, REAL Women and Big Oil.

FOTF and Realwomen do not get taxpayer funding.

And how is Big Oil affecting family values?

You know if Shifty Sid & CUPE are taking up the banner... there's some bad shit comin' down the pipe.

Anonymous, nice cheap shots. Calling people fascists is not wit. If you and your ilk believe your causes to be rooted in values common to the majority, then you should have no problem raising funds. Why should I fund your causes?

Hey Joanne!

Congrats on making "best of the blogs" in today's Sun!

The good news: You got star billing, even above "right girl".

The bad news: Lorrie's column wasn't on the same page.

The worse news: Shiela's column was on the same page.

Will you still remember us little people, and still allow us to comment here, now that you've made the big time?

lol! L.S. - You're kidding. I didn't even know they still had that thing running. Is that the print edition or online?

Print, at least the ontario edition
No kidding!

Joanne (True Blue) said...

L.S. - Wow. Well, thanks for the alert. I'd better go out & get one before they're gone.

BTW, you will always be welcome here! ;) You are one of my favourite Liberals.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

L.S. Just picked one up. Too funny!

Well, that's one for the old scrapbook.

Thanks again for the info or I would have missed it for sure.

What about the pensioner who was fighting to have his military pension go to his wife after he dies? He was a widower when he married, and because of the ancient "gold digger" law, his second wife won't get a penny of his pension when he dies. He was using the court challenges programme to challenge the gold digger law, and now he can't afford to continue. The matter isn't as black and white as you seem to think.

Mac said...

Kate, one "right" doesn't not redress so many "wrongs" so good riddance CCP!!

Anonymous said...

I note that for the "goldigger's" case, fundraising is being done.

Anonymous said...

We got noticed!

And they have mounted fierce public-relations campaigns against government programs that later wound up being axed or downsized, including the Court Challenges Program -- a fund that paid for legal challenges that won new rights for women, minorities, the disabled, and gays and lesbians since the 1970s.

From Suzanne's link... "a fund that paid for legal challenges that won new rights for women, minorities, the disabled, and gays and lesbians since the 1970s."

New rights as opposed to equal rights?
