Part of the document disclosed a plan to ban 'inefficient' light bulbs. I'm sure David was quite pleased to see that his brother's recent initiative is being copied.
Now would the combined political brain trust of Ontario and the ROC please come up with a plan for fitting lamp shades over those new CFL's? Or do we all have to go out and buy new lamps? And what do we do with the old ones? Throw them in the landfill?
David McGuinty was concerned about how the 'leak' would affect stock markets today.
In the short-term, I would suggest investing in any company involved with the manufacture of incandescent light bulbs.
I'm sure I won't be the only one planning to hoard them.

Update: Just caught Environment Minister John Baird on Canada AM. Good for him for taking responsibility regarding the administrative mistake with the errant fax.
I can think of many times during the previous federal Liberal government, and the present Ontario Liberal government when ministers in question buried their heads in the sand and played the 'see no evil' game.

Seriously, this guy shows no sign of even beginning to understand his portfolio. Oh well, as long as he continues to spin and spew, I guess he is doing his job.
Do I gather from your post that if it turns out to be the case that the government is going to phase-out incandescent bulbs, you’re going to actually *gasp* disagree with the Conservatives? I’ll have to mark that day in my calendar.

Just got back from the local store where a big sign flogging store-brand cloth shopping bags read: 'We can do better'. Except the 'can' was crossed out and written above was the word 'must'.
Shades of David Suzuki! We'll all being brainwashed! I'm not saying we don't have a problem, but let's think this out, and not be pandering to every special interest group that shrieks the loudest about the apocalyptic consequences.

According to Craig Worden the new Red Green show's 52% approval rating by liberal voters is a reasonably good sign for the Liberals. Dion must be doing even worse than I thought if 52% is reasonably good from liberal supporters. Could it be that Red Tory is not the only one who has decided to check out reality?
It won't stand there will remain a place for incandescents because the facts of energy and economics make it so.
While it's disappointing that our conservative government is willing to pander to the no brain set with this kind of announcement you can be sure that well before any such ban is ever close to being enacted there will be some more intelligent actions taken.
Pandering to the whims of the ignorant is no long term strategy.
Seeing as it is good to talk about how poorly the "red-green" show is going over with the public, I thought it best to mention that the Decima poll released today had the Conservatives at 30% - the lowest they have polled since December 2005 (that is the lowest by any polling company; angus, SES Ipsos, Leger, etc).
Two polls now have shown that any disapproval of the red-green pact is not translating into lost votes for either party.
As for lights that don't fit lamps, do you seriously not think that companies are already developing light bulbs that are more efficient and WILL fit?

The vote yesterday was not a confidence vote, as far as I know, although Harper could have certainly taken the results as a matter of confidence if he wished.

Call me jaded, but yes. And Harper could have made it a confidence vote but I doubt that he would have. He can get enough political capital out of it as it is.

The so called incandescent light ban (at least the Ontario version) does not ban a specific kind of bulb, it only sets an efficiency standard, so many lumens per watt.
In this article about halfway down, you can see a comparison of efficiencies for different lighting methods.
Companies such as GE already have higher efficiency incandescents. With the ban guaranteeing the market, they will invest in them more. I think they expect to make them 4 times more efficient, putting them well within the range of compact fluorescents.
So in addition to the special exceptions for fridge and oven bulbs, there should be plenty of incandescents that meet the standard.
