Caledonia #2

I've been trying so hard to stay out of this, but I just have to interject one thought here. If we don't learn from our past mistakes, aren't we doomed to repeat them?

Saturday Update: Lorne Gunter - Easy for Natives to Break the Law.

Just heard on a local news station that the bus blocking the track has been moved. Apparently this was done due to a fear of violence as local citizens started gathering. I commend the native protesters for taking this action, rather than digging their heels in. If anyone finds links to this latest development, please post them in comments. So far nothing on MSM sites.

Here we go. Now may I suggest the next blockade venue? How about Dalton's office?

On second thought, why not put up a blockade preventing any politicians from entering the building? At least that way they won't be able to vote themselves another raise.

Well, well Dalton McSpineless, it seems like the Caledonia chickens are coming home to roost. Now they know you're weak and will take full advantage of you. So go now and cry to Stephen Harper and the Federal Government to pull your bacon out of this latest fiasco. Looks good on you. This is entirely your fault McSpinless, you should have dealt with Caledonia when you had the chance.

I sure hope our liberal B.C. government will have more guts then Ontario's McGuinty, if the natives get restless in this province, I would hope they nip- it-in-the-bud immediately. I DON'T CARE HOW BAD IT GETS if force is required, use it!!!!

Frustration on both sides, to be sure.

However, I am looking forward to the election in the fall. I wonder if Dalton will be helping out with the canvassing...

McGuinty had the choice between enforcement and appeasement. He chose appeasement. Now he's got war.

I hope the CN police go in there overnight and crack some heads, Im sorry but you don't disrupt one of the major CN lines and except it to go unpunished, the land is CN's afterall. Might as well just run a train through it, one of the fancy snow plow trains no less.

The interesting thing is that natives are always talking about their right to their land, and yet for the ROC there are no property rights. This is not part of our sacred Charter. Why not?

Is it just me(being sensitive to the Red Star slant) or does the theme of that Star article slant towards praising the blockaders for being good peaceful citizens? Was Shawn Brandt getting a pat on the back for avoiding problems with the nasty locals?

Actually, I was thinking that his decision was much more responsible than that of the protesters in Caledonia. So I guess I would concur with the Star in that sense.

It is all levels of government and police bureaucracies that are at fault here, IMHO.

Any person with half a brain knows that if you reward certain types of behavior you will get more of it. Our eunuch of a premier doesn't seem to understand this and has resorted to sticking his head in the sand, hoping nobody is going to kick him where the sun don't shine. Arrest the Indian protestors and make the tribes pay restitution for all the damage and losses their actions have caused.
