Relapsed Catholic takes CP to task

Kathy Shaidle has a most interesting article posted (CP guy suggests I'm a government stooge), describing an email exchange over CP/CTV allegations that Blogging Tories seem to get their talking points from the CPC.

CP's mission statement must be to never let facts get in the way of a good Conservative slur.

Update: Kate delivers the knock-out punch!!!

What really kills me about this is this CP rep's position on the Court Challenges program saying that the BT just happened to zero in on the same program the government was slashing. If I do recall, the media (notably CTV, the Star, the Globe & Mail, AM640, etc.) were all heavily covering the demise of the court challenges program at the same time. By her "evidence" (ha ha) that would mean that the media were also being prodded along by the government. Highly unlikely considering the tone of the media.

Sorry, but sudden interest by various parties does not signify grand collusion. What a weak reply.

You can attribute this to either fatigue or laziness. It takes a great deal of time to actually read the blogs that update on a regular basis, and in the deadline pressure of the 24-hour news cycle it's all too tempting just to skim.

then jump to conclusions and write about a right-wing conspiracy without checking the facts. I'm glad I called him on it.

its hilarious - i wrote a post last february or march in which I pretended blogging tories congregated at some retreat for instructions from the PMO on how to blog.

yes, the PM micromanages even cyberspace.

in fact, word for word on my post about Yanni last night came from Kevin Lynch who is very controlling about what you can and cannot say about Yanni.

Steve, were you the one who sent Kathy the copies of the email correspondence with Alexander Panetta?

lol! What was the title of that one, Chucker? It's like déjà vu!

Let's hope CP doesn't find out that we're really just a bunch of Cyborgs.
Of course, they already think that.

Ha! What a trip down memory lane!!!

I see I've broken 2 out of the 3 rules. Oh well, if Garth can still be a Blogging Tory so can I!

I've been reading the CP releases almost daily for years.
They are consistently negative on conservative POV or political stories.
The really weird thing is that on many occasions where I have seen conservative Blogsters note the more blatant abuses....the Lib/Left are seeing conservative bias.

With so many examples of journalistic incompetence or dishonesty you would think that some management heads would be rolling at CP.

I just finished KS's exchange with Alexander Panetta....he seems just a bit smug to me.
Note that while he suggests that if he had Known more about Kathy's role he would have acted differently.
Well I'd say that if he had bothered to ask he might have known.
He also goes on to comment on how he often reads and respects her work.

UHUH! If this is so then why did he write what he wrote??

PGP - I think it's just MSM trying to catch up with the blogosphere; and feeling somewhat intimidated, and perhaps even a little threatened (as they should).

I don’t buy into the MSM line of attack that you guys indulge in with such relish and delight, but even I regarded the accusations that the Blogging Tories were shills peddling talking points from the Conservative Party as total bullshit. Things just don’t work that way. It’s most certainly not that overt.

That said, it can’t be denied that there are memes that are circulated and disseminated or at least that are readily picked up on, and rehashed ad nausea in print, on television and via the Internets. I will give you a little example and it was kind of nicely summarized by satirical programs like the “Daily Show” that are quite attuned to these things and that’s the meme about accusing “liberals” of not wanting to “win” in Iraq. This question has been asked over and over and over again by right-wing pundits and spokespeople in an attempt to put lib/Dems on the defensive and question their patriotism and support of the troops, etc. Anyone who feels the war is going badly, has been horribly bungled, misguided and mismanaged is now put on the hot seat and asked “Do you want us to win?” This is more than a coincidence and it seems to me evidence that points to efforts to control the message and influence the dialog.

Your case in point here about a news story that apparently drew a false connection between a “special interest” program that had its budget slashed by the Conservative government and a concerted effort by right-wing bloggers to accomplish this very goal is kind of funny because on the one hand you’re claiming that bloggers have no influence, aren’t beholden to anyone and on the other doing a little victory dance that you exerted some effect over policy that you campaigned to have enacted. So which is it?
