You think it's easy to be a politician?

Well, I think I could do it, if this is all it takes...

MDL tonight - on 'NAFTA-gate':

M.D. - "Well, Bob Rae is the Liberal Foreign Affairs critic and he joins us from Toronto. What do you make of the argument by Mr. Layton that this is a pretty serous matter?"

Bob Rae - "Well as you know Mike, uh I raised it on my blog as soon as I saw Tom Clark's report, I thought I smelled something..."

Oh well then!

Speaking of Jack Layton, I just caught his performance on Lou Dobbs. He started out sounding quite impressive. Lou Dobbs fairly swooned when Jack mentioned the phrase "Fair and sustainable trade".

Then Dobbs asked about 'Obama-gate' as it's called there.

Jack: "Well, I asked the Prime Minister today in the House of Commons to apologize to the American people for, uh, this kind of interference in the democratic process of the US. It's not right. He didn't apologize and he hasn't yet fired the source of the leak. So we'll keep working on that at our end.."

Lou Dobbs looked like he had found his soul mate.

Seems that Gerry Nicholls agrees with Jack - Fire Brodie Now.

More from the "What do I know Grit" - Jack Layton's New Best Friend - Lou Dobbs!

Just saw Rex Murphy opining on NAFTA-gate. He was absolutely brilliant! If anyone finds a link, please let me know. Thanks.

Update! Gabby comes through as always.

Bob Rae, a 'Liberal' giving advice on how to strengthen our relations with the US?

Carolyn Parrish would be proud.

Yeah, didn't they hate the U.S. at one time?

Apparently Jack's also due to appear on the Larry King show.

Maybe Americans should be reminded that the NDP is a socialist party which represents at most 17% of the Canadian electorate.
The NDP also would like nothing better than see NAFTA dismantled, since they believe that those 'evil Americans' are out to steal our resources, primarily our water.

'Bob Rae' - lol, lol....

And maybe Canadians should be reminded that CNN is a left-leaning network.

I'd love to see Jack on Fox.

Jack almost swallowed his tongue when Mike Duffy said that Lou Dobbs wants all Canadian built cars kept out of the U.S., as well as softwood lumber.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Rations, I saw that too!

And Lou Dobbs actually substituted the word 'Canadian' for Chinese when complaining about their timber being shipped out of the country to be processed. Then he corrected himself.

Looks like I got some wrong information on another blog re: Jack Layton's appearance on Larry King.
His name was not mentioned in the intro.
Sorry about that.

Guess I should go watch "Lost" ...

lol! Good one, Gabby.

Actually I had heard that too, but maybe there was some confusion with the media. They don't always get the facts straight, ya know. ;)

I wonder if he will get a copy of Lou's book.

Is Jack Layton Lou Dobb's new poodle?

They do look cute together.

Bob Rae.."i'm just a little guy from Toronto centre, knocking on doors!"

Heavens! what would little 'ole me, pawn of Power Corp, know about all that crazy politik'in she-nanigans!..

Bob Rae, unelected representative of one of the most virulent anti-American parties in Canada, complaining how Brodie-gate will hurt our reputation with the states.

Under the Liberals, i have one question..what reputation?

I wonder if Jack will take some pointers on Lou's ideas for immigration, border security and fence-building.

The one thing that I don't get is that Obama was the one who got caught speaking from both sides of his mouth on the NAFTA issue and was justifiably exposed for doing so. So I am trying to understand the reasoning of those on the left who want the Prime Minister to apologize to Obama and the American people. On what basis does Canada owe Obama an apology?

tony - right on!

The guy can't explain his own lie so he has the liars up here try to make up for it by blaming it on PMSH.

You should be able to view Rex Murphy's op-eds.

My computer does not get along with Windows Media for some reason, so what I get is just Murphy's voice (through QuickTime).

I hope the video works for you.

Tony, I've been wondering the same thing.
I heard both Hillary and Obama talking about NAFTA to win votes in Ohio. They were both on the same page trying to win brownie points. Why is this the least bit Canada's fault now.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Awesome! Thanks, Gabby. For some reason I can only get the audio too.

In any case, the transcript is there.

You are better-than-google, as always! ;)

I agree, why is no one going after Obama for lying. Americans should know that he talks out of both sides of his mouth. What else has he lied about.
Liberals worrying about our reputation with the US, remember when Bush come to Canada and thanked cdns for waving with all 5 fingers. Remember Parrish, Remember Chretains aide that had to resign.
I would love to see one of Laytons motions pass and the govt go to an election. Bet Lou Dobbs will get lots of e-mails re Layton being an important cdn politician.
Nothing on ABC or NBC that I have heard is even mentioning this.
Maybe if reporters quit going with leaks without verifying these problems would not occur.
And, again, if Hillory or McCain are elected, wont they owe Canada big time.
Didn't Chretain say he wanted Gore to win. Didn't Moore tell us not to vote conservatives. Where was the outrage.

Mary - glad someone remembers about Michael Moore commenting during our election.
I posted this yesterday on Garth's blog and was promptly told that it didn't matter because Moore wasn't a politician.

I realize that economics is not my strong suit, but would someone please explain to me what NAFTA has to do with millions of jobs heading to India and China. If the jobs were heading to the US or Mexico, I would understand the need for renegotiation, but last time I looked India and China were in ASIA, not North America.

Joanne, maybe I should change my moniker to Barney Google ... you know, as in
"Barney Google with the goo-goo-goo-gly eyes." ;-)

But seriously:
If a reporter hears a rumour in a budget lockup, where information is supposedly embargoed, and BlackBerries and other means of communications are not allowed, is it ethical for the reporter to spread that rumour, and even to give his colleague in Washington a heads-up?

That appears to be the sequence of events, if I understood L. Ian Macdonald's comments on two separate occasions on a local radio show.

"I posted this yesterday on Garth's blog and was promptly told that it didn't matter because Moore wasn't a politician."

Ruth, if you decide to return to that blog, you could remind Garth that in addition to Moore, the following also told Canadians how they should vote:
Ralph Nader (who IS a politician, though unelected, who may present himself as an independent presidential candidate), Rosie O'Donnell, Matt Damon, Bob Geldof and St. Bono.
All of the above have told Canadians how to vote or how they should view their government, and sad to say, entertainers have more pull with people than real politicians.
