Will Stoffer be punished for defending fetal rights?

National Newswatch reports a rumour that Jack Layton is considering some sort of punishment for NDP MP Peter Stoffer because he voted in favour of C-484.

I thought this was a vote of conscience.

So much for the New 'Democratic' Party.

And so much for protecting a Woman's right to choose if that choice involves continuing her pregnancy.

Well I hope that this is just a rumour. If not I hope that Layton will have to answer those comments you present such as how they can have the word "Democratic" in their party name. Maybe you can ask him.

Off topic, but someone needs to pick up on the big fight yesterday in the HOC when Mulcair went mad.
The people in his riding need to hear how he acts in the HOC. Hope it makes the Quebec papers.

I agree with Ruth.
Mulcair went ballistic yesterday when he rose to support the plight of a gay Malaysian being deported. He was frothing at the mouth and spitting wildly as he climbed across several desks in a menacing manner towards a handful of Conservative members who were heckling him. (Heckling in the HoC? How juvenile.)
Apparently being gay is a crime in Malaysia.
Mulcair ranted on about Canadian values and how this government was deporting the man because of his sexual orientation AND his ethnic origin.
His ethnic origin!!??
Sure, why not throw that into the mix.
I would guess that Mulcair didn't mention that the man is also diabetic, has a heart condition and is blind in one eye.
My Canadian values tell me that this man shouldn't be welcome because he's a potential drain on the health system.

I only posted that because I thought if Layton was going to punish one MP, he might consider how Mulcair acted in the HOC.
Maybe he could have a talk to them all at the same time.

Sorry Ruth, didn't mean to usurp your post.
I've always wondered if I'd ever be able to use that word :)

Usurp my post. Don't think so. All I want is someone to get the truth out that the NDP are no better than anybody else.
I heard the uproar on CPAC just before QP started, but no cameras were on. Mulcair should have a penalty for a few weeks and have to sit out the game.

Good point. I guess you're talking about this story.

BTW, the Politic is covering the Mulcair story.

The NDP doesn't accept anything but ideological purity. Their version of purity is unremitting support to radical feminist. Thats why thet are at 12 -15% in the polls.

Regarding the The Unborn Victims of Crime Act which passed second reading , Pat Martin, another NDP beacon of hyperbole and insensitivity said:

"I think the NDP, the Bloc and about half the Liberals will mobilize at committee stage to try and nip this in the bud,"

Bad metaphor, Mr. Martin.

"Our policy on abortion is more fragile and tenuous than in the U.S., and it is vulnerable to lobbying."

Mr. Martin, the Charter of Rights guarantees freedom of expression and speech, albeit with the exception of the out-of-control HRCs.

"My fear is this lends succour and support to the lunatic fringe. Mercifully, we've been free of violence and free of harassment at women's clinics for the last few years, but all the loony-tunes come out of the woodwork when they sense an opportunity."

This is not the type of language an MP should be using.

I agree. It's despicable. He's a real piece of work, that one.

What's everyone so surprised about. For a socialist, concience is irrelevant. You should do what the collective (Party) says you should do without debate, question, or doubt.

In terms of the Party having "Democratic" in the name, let's look at some examples:

The German Democratic Republic...aka East Germany
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea...aka North Korea

Entirely consistent!

Joanne, totally off topic, I apologize,
but
I can't help but sense that the Libs are sitting on something big.
The 'needing time' issue is puzzling. They have had lots of time to get 'ready'.

The only reason I can think of, that would require this much time, and permit the LPC to allow this incrediable amount of bashing,
is if
Libs and Greens are negotiating a merger.

msm would never report any rumors that would prepare PMSH for it.

NEVER underestimate the Liberals!

Anyone else suspicious?

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Wilson, it could be that Bob Rae is waiting for the by-elections.

wilson said...

And Iggy cares if Rae gets a seat?

The whole LPC has been put on hold, and it's reputation is beening battered, daily, by everyone.
What would be worth that kind of pain?

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Wilson, rumour has it that Dion and Iggy may be 'in charge', but Rae has all the footsoldiers.

'beening' , lol at self

Something is keeping Lib MPs from a massive revolt.
They make jokes about their abstentions.

They are laying in the weeds with something.

Libs are abstaining from the Dipper confidence vote on the environment.
If Lizzy doesn't come out against the move, be VERY suspicious.

Well, Wilson, I trust your 'spidey-sense'. We'll just have to wait and see. Don't worry about typos, BTW.

Ask Bev Desjarlais how it works with the Dippers:

Right! I was thinking about her this morning. That doesn't bode well for Stoffer.
