One more reason to stop public funding for CBC

This is pretty poor:

A Nova Scotia MP said he may urge Canadians to avoid travelling to Mexico if a jailed Canadian woman, Brenda Martin, is not set free soon.

Bill Casey, the Conservative Party MP for Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley made the remarks in a letter sent to Mexico's ambassador to Canada...

Good grief! What is this? Amateur hour?

* * * *
Update: CBC caught the error! I wonder which member of the brain trust at the Mothercorps figured that one out? Ah, it came from comments. Ha!

* * * *
This is priceless! Via Liberal Arts and Minds who links to this Chronicle Herald article... Comment by 'Family Doc':

The best way to ensure Canadians stay out of Mexico is to remove all Immodium stocked on pharmacy shelves here. I am sure the medical community would lend its support.

Priceless.

Sunday Updat
e: Greg Weston has really jumped the shark here - Prisoner hopes to see enlightenment of Day. "As Brenda Martin reaches for what may be her only lifeline out of Mexican hell, she can only pray for the amazing grace of Stockwell Day."

Oh pull-eeze!!! Is that an Easter reference, Greggy? What a load of simpering saccharin.

Next it will be, Save Saint Brenda from the "foreign hellhole"!

Just how gullible does he think we are?

Amateur hour?

Why yes Joanne, it is.

Next question.

And you're fine paying for this misinformation with your tax dollars?

Anonymous said...

it's what the Liberals do don't'ya know....find ways to waste(or steal) our taxdollars.

I'm not fine with any of it but the less Harper does to bite back the worse the Liberals look.

And they look very, very bad.

My own Liberal MP was all over this story in our papers this past week blasting the Harper gov't for their inaction, and because Brenda(or whatever her name is these days) lived in the community for the first few years of her life.) Everyone's coming out of the woodwork in Clinton, Ontario to bash Harper.

Write a letter to the editor and set them straight.

The only ones coming out of the woodwork to bash Mr. Harper anywhere are the Liberals that have been hiding.
Other than the K-W Record editorial supporting the Conservative approach I haven't seen any mention of it at all today in the MSM>

That's true.

And in the previous post in comments we learn that Brenda's supporters were suddenly all sunshine and roses on the Roy Green show; trying to explain away Brenda's vile outbursts.

Seems like everyone with a grudge against Harper wants to take their swing at him.

All we need is Garth (look at me) Turner chiming in (if he hasn't already done so).

Amateur Hour - Joanne you hit the proverbial nail on the head!!!

So to clarify, according to to the Ceeb and an isolated MP a Canadian should be able to travel out of country and have Diplomatic immunity from all crimes. "Forget due process, I'm Canadian" One more thing, who wrote Brenda Martin moms tearful plea about the "political football", could it have been Krista Erikson. Trenton is on the way from Ottawa to Toronto?

I had been urging the Tories to take Casey back. Boy was that a mistake. The CBC is no surprise. They should be sold off!

I posted this at thepolitic.com

Please comment.....

I have noticed the CBC has been letting some……dare I say it?……..”normalcy” into their broadcast regime; Rick Mercer Liberal gospel song, the reent criticism with Mandsbridge and the political junkies, Rick Mercer and his Rant on Levant.

Is it possible, in wake of their spending controversy, the fact that they gave Harper and the conservatives hell from the beginning, and a strong possibility of a conservative majority, or the fact that they rule as if they are in a majority………….that’s they are shaking in their boots of being shut down?

I mean, Harper could have this written as a confidence motion compromise arguing “lets shut these guys down, to make a concession for the Liberal RESP amendment”. I do not think anyone wants to go to the polls for the saving the CBC?

Or maybe I have been eating too many Easter eggs.

Happy Easter all
God bless

What a fantastic idea!!!

Really Joanne? I mean, I thought about it long, but I am no political analyst or anything, but I think its a cute and backhanded way to give the CBC the boot. I am not sure though, would it be too risky? I don’t like suggesting things that could make problems, I know politicians read these blogs. Maybe its better to wait for a majority, I know Harper is on a role, but Conservatives are known for their modesty and don't take silly risks like the libs.

I am sure that the CBC is scared of Harper, I know that they are gnashing their teeth over possibility of a shut down

Well, in reality it would be a trite issue to force a confidence vote on, but if it could be packaged in a larger bill, like saving ridiculous waste of taxpayers' money...

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Yes, let's call it an "Omnibus Taxpayers' rights bill", and it will have the amendment allowing Rex Murphy and Rick Mercer some kind of tax credits to continue their fine work.

All the rest get the axe.

O.K. Yeah. We keep Don Cherry.

Well thanks for the link Joanne, but given the loons who frequent your place, I don't need the publicity.

Now at least, I know where they came from.

I'm glad to see you are reading common sense though, ;).

As an aside, I think I read something that suggested you and I may agree on an issue. I can't think of the number of the bill, but it's the Epp private members bill. I think I read that you were against it.

If I misread your comment, fair enough, I'll go away.

C-484? Totally for it. But hey. That doesn't mean we can't be friends. ;)

Karen said...

My mistake. I thought I saw you arguing against it on some Liblog.

My apologies...but yes, friends are good, ;).

Joanne (True Blue) said...

My apologies.

No apology necessary. We'll debate it sometime. Have a great Easter.

I have always said; as an adult apon returning to Canada and listening to the CBC, "it is college radio for shut-ins".

Greg Weston's taken the bait today Joanne.

Sad to see folks continued to be suckered in to this.

What a pile of doggy-do that column is! Thanks for the tip, Anon.

Let's just privatize it and be done with it!!

Perhaps Greggy would like to jump on the bandwagon of the many other Canadians that are held in jails - I mean - what makes Brenda Martin so special.

What about all the others facing things like beheading!

This is the "scandal of the week" and Greggy is going to milk it for all it's worth.

Tomorrow is Monday so we can look forward to the next pseudo scandal to break.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Exactly. I want him to take up every case if he's going to highlight any. Brenda Martin isn't the only one who finds herself in trouble outside of Canada.

TO Sun publishes lot's of 'letters' Let's reply to Greggy with some facts.

Let's reply to Greggy with some facts.

Yes, certainly one complaint I have about that pathetic excuse for a column today, is that he does nothing to balance the story. It's as if there were no chance that Brenda Martin could possibly be guilty, and that somehow Stockwell Day has some sinister power to determine her future. You would think that the woman had been a cook in a convent the way Weston is talking!

I'm not quite sure what Greggy's agenda is, but he hasn't even attempted to hide his bias and cynicism.

Let's boycott Mexico for the plight of 1 Canadian, who by all rights, has been the master of her own demise.

Let's not boycott China. A country that has proven to have no problem with killing people to supress dissent (be it Tibetans or Falun Gong) and flood the world with poisoned products.

Good job Bill Casey. You'd fit right in as a member of the Liberal Party. You should talk to Bob Rae, I'm sure they'd be happy to have you.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Oh boy. Way to go Reid! Lots of good points there; especially about China.

You couldn't pay me enough money to go there.

And now we see that the headlines are all about Helena G. partying while Brenda sat waiting in the "hell hole" of a prision.

GIVE ME A FRICK"N BREAK - where do these so called "journalists" even begin to think that something like this constitutes good writing.

This is a "fiddling while rome burns" story meant to continue to show the heartlessness of the Tory party.

What kills me is that so many Canadians are actually falling for this stupidity.
