Rant Aggregator

Today's post is a compilation of rants from MSM which caught my eye.

Greg Weston takes Stephane Dion's English pronunciation to task in Pardon, Monsieur Dion? "Liberal Leader's Shaky English Could Make Him French Toast in the Next Election". I would suggest possibly milquetoast as well.

Roy Leishman of the LFP - "Judicial Activists Know No Restrain." Roy rants about the Ontario Court of Appeal's self-proclaimed right to define the Canadian family and asks why our legislated officials seemingly have no opinion or objection.

Strange indeed...

Oh yeah! I know why, Roy! Christina Blizzard found them - They're at home counting their 25% raises!!!

- and saying see ya in March, suckers.

* * * *

Update: Kate does her take on the Weston article - A Way with Words: Found in Translation.

Read the comments. One of her readers starts talking about "Borat Dion". Too funny.

Afternoon Update: I don't know how I missed this one this morning! Lorrie Goldstein has another column on the Kyoto debacle (More Kyoto Crimes):

The news for Canadian taxpayers and consumers only gets worse. Even if we were to meet our Kyoto targets for 2012, which would have a huge negative impact on our economy because we're now 35% behind, it won't matter.

China, India and the U.S. -- none of them restricted by Kyoto -- are planning to build more than 850 new coal-fired energy plants over the next few years. China alone is planning 562. (Burning coal emits more greenhouse gas, linked to global warming, than oil or natural gas, the world's two other major fossil fuels.)

BTW, still an excellent debate going on a few threads ago.

Since this is somewhat of a dog's breakfast today, I'm going to include a short excerpt from a great letter by a geologist in Saturday's Financial Post in response to Peter Foster's Jan. 9 column, "Climate Action Would be Suicidal".

Reviving catastrophism

"...Also, for your information, there was a fascinating paper that appeared in the Geological Association of Canada journal, last year I think, demonstrating that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide appear to follow increases in temperature, not precede them! I doubt you'll hear the great wizard, Dr. David Suzuki, catastrophist extraordinaire, speaking much about that.

Finally, as if any other proofs of the earth's incredible self-buffering and self-regulating capacity were required, how about the fact that as this winter has been so mild, the burning of fossil fuels for heating as gone way down and so has the consequent emissions of carbon dioxide. Presto. Problem solved! Avrom Howard, Thornhill, Ont. "

Well, that might be oversimplifying things a bit.

Stephan Dion... I heard a guy on the radio yesterday say that if he was really serious about Emission, not screwing Alberta, and being inclusive to the west, he should run in Anne McCellans old riding in Edmonton North...

That would be funny as hell.

New Post up.

Joe Calgary....LOL!! Thanks for the laugh.

I don't know if I mentioned it here or not, but maybe 3 weeks ago or so, I was walking through City Centre (in Edmonton) and as I was about to come to a corner, lo and behold, there she was....Ann McClellan ...in all her huffing and puffing glory. She was all dressed up, and was working the mall hall I guess you could say. I stopped in my tracks, said "Anne McClellan". She stopped, turned, and then smiled, waiting for me to gush. I couldn't. I just couldn't say thank you for all of your honest, good work. Thank you for being part of a party and government that truly cares about Canadians. I was brought up not to lie....(I hit about 80% of that most of the time, I guess...no one's perfect). But, I was brought up to be polite. So, I just said, "Merry Christmas" and we shook hands. Then we both went on our ways.

What I meant by her huffing and puffing is that I don't know if anyone else notices, but when she appears on t-v, she says a few words, then gasps for air as if it's the last breath she's going to get....a few more words....another gasp.

Stephane Dion in Edmonton....he he he....I'd go undercover as a Liberal then, ....maybe....just to find out how someone can actually "believe" his own BS on Kyoto.

I heard the same show the other day as well. The person did also did mention that the same applies for Harper in Quebec.

I doubt that we'll see either switch ridings anytime soon though.

Here's a letter to the editor that sums up and simplifies Kyoto.

"DION'S FAULTY MATH

I finally figured out how Stephane Don's "carbon trading" works to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Put this way, if my neighbour drives two cars and I have none, he pays me money for "carbon credits." This makes him too poor to be able to drive two cars and contents himself with just one. Emissions are then cut down 50%. Bravo, Dion and Kyoto.

RONALD OSALONGA "

Kyoto is economic suicide for any "developed" nation to sign on to. Who in their right mind still would want to support it???

Anon #83 - It would seem that many are not "in their right minds". Possibly in their 'left' minds though.

Vicki....."Why is the press not challlenging Dion on his 'easy money' remark in Alberta where he complained about hard working Canadians heading to where the jobs are?
And when he speaks does he clarify any Liberal policy? ...other than bash Harper and the west?..."

Asking the good questions! Don't hold your breath for that happening in our Canadian media.

Anything I read written by Greg Weston (which isn't much these days) is taken with a huge grain of salt, because he's still really ticked off at the way PM Stephen Harper has treated the PPG (self-pity press gallery it should be).Until that gets sorted out, he will use his column to make digs at PM Harper whether directly, or indirectly by fawning over Dion.

Weston reminds me of the teenage son who hope leaves home soon. :-)

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Weston may as well be his apologetic translater.

Actually I think Weston is a member of the P.P.Gallery which may explain why he is going so easy on Dion.

Zac - you have a good point. I also don't think we'll see either Harper or Dion change ridings any time soon.

jeff davidson - it is good to hear that Dion's English is improving. As a Tory, I have confidence in the leadership of Stephen Harper, and I don't think it is necessary to try to take advantage (it would be unsuccessful - and deservedly so IMHO) of any linquistic failings (perceived or real) on the part of Dion.

On another topic but since it's about your backyard Jo:
I recommend this little bit from Darcey at DMB...

Yeah, I don't think we should hold our breath on that one, but imagine the excitement? Harper runs in Montreal and Dion runs in Edmonton. I don't think either would get out of the riding very much. It would make for some fun TV though.

PGP - thanks for raising my blood pressure. Grrrr...

Kyoto is a plot by developing countries to bankrupt developing countries, so even is the climate is getting worse, we shouldn't sign on any more. Let the developing nations sign on and lower their emissions first, to prove it is not a plot, otherwise it proves it is

Harper is right to show the press who runs the country, him not them, just like Bush did before the press started to get negative propaganda on the war. Before that it was good.

Leadership meanings being in charge, otherwise you are not a leader, and Harper is showing them
