Federal prison guards are not happy about Correctional Service Canada's failure to comply with a federal government inspector's order to enforce a smoking ban in prisons.
The Sun reports that "(Union President Sylvain) Martel said CSC should be fined for not meeting the Labour Code. If not, employees will seek the legal right to sue in the same way inmates can and do sue the Crown."
Well, I'm not sure about the rest of Canada, but for any prisons in Ontario the answer is obvious - build them a casino!

So maybe the unions will be able to make a dent in the Corrections Canada bureaucracy... they're certainly not willing to listen to "common sense"... or the taxpayers.

A judge has decided this isn't a dangerous or health needed question last summer.
PS not everyone buys the if you smell tobacco it harms you propoganda. There must be a science called toxicology as well in decision. IN other words danger is in the dose, not the smell.

Can you expand on that, Anon? Somebody should tell Dalton McGuinty with his anti-smoking-except-at-casinos campaign.

You're right that not everyone agrees that second hand cigarette smoke is dangerous. I believe they're called the tobbacco lobby/industry. But then, there are people who say the Holocaust never happened, who think that man never landed on the moon. There are probably even some who really believe in Santa Claus and the Great Pumpkin.

And there are some who even believe in Kyoto!

And how is there an inconsistency between Joanne's assertion that believe in Kyoto and yours that it is a framework? Please enlighten this poor, misguided soul.
To Joanne - How do I do italics?
Whoops:
I forgot to insert the word "people" in my last post. The question should have read, "And how is there an inconsistency between Joanne's assertion that people believe in Kyoto and yours that it is a framework?" I should really brush up on my proof reading skills.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Comments are not a place to worry too much about typos. Most people get what you're trying to say. ;)
