Add my voice to those saying that if we can't reform it (and I too would prefer that option), then maybe we should just abolish the Senate. As to whether it'd be hard to get unanimous consent of the provinces, that would surely depend on how close (or one-sided) the referendum result was.
I used to think that reform would be best. You know sober second thought and all that but after seeing how well the US congress and Senate are working lately I think we should just abolish it and save the money.
Jack gets out the gate with a position (abolish) and backs it up with wanting to have a referendum on it, Harper's position is already well known (reform) and has said he's willing to take the issue to the electorate.
Where does this leave the liberals? Sitting on their hands not wanting to do anything.
Gimbol - Exactly. The beauty of it is of course that the Liberals have the overwhelming majority in the Senate so they won't want to alienate any of their confrères.

Actually Senator Hugh Segal proposed this a few weeks ago, as a way to save the Senate.
My prefernece is to reform the Senate.

Actually, I prefer reform too. What I don't prefer is the status quo.

My preference is also to reform , but if all else fails , abolishing the senate might be a back up plan if the Senate rejects reform.

A triple "E" Senate all the way!!

If Senate proves ineffective and out of touch perhaps they could face the same fate as the dodo bird?

So, this could be most amusing.

Wow! National Newswatch's 'election fever meter' just dropped to 1%!!!
It was up to about 80% just a day or two ago. I wonder what changed.

Actually Joanne, I believe that poll was done in the Liberal caucus room minutes after Dion's GST message to the media. Wanna guess who the 1% is?

If I may hazard a guess, could it possibly be Iggy?

Maybe it was "margin of error" and actually it is -2% who want an election 19 times out of 20.

Oh, good one, Paul! You should apply to do some writing for Air Farce Live.
They need some balance. In fact, they need something funny. That is one pathetic show.
