Right (or Left) on the money

This op-ed in today's Sun is incredibly insightful - Tories outfoxing Liberals for Mushy Middle Vote.

Not a lot of time for blogging today, but I do hope to come back to it. Please feel free to comment.

BTW, to paraphrase the ever indignant Stephane Dion, I've never seen a leader of the Official Opposition do so much damage to our country in such a short time.

I shudder to think what might happen if he were Prime Minister.

Update: Sheila Copps throws in her two-cents worth here - Being a Bully will end up Costing the PM.

The jokes practically write themselves in this piece. Be my guest.

Evening Update: Well, it's been a busy day, so not much blogging - My apologies.

Great post here though. It was actually picked up by National Newswatch - Seconds Thoughts: Gerard Kennedy calls PM a Racist.

And this is HUGE!!! Kerplonka! - Scandal! The internal email you *have* to read... Backroom deals in Victoria!

Monday Update: Ezra Levant - Grits Chew on Nutty Rhetoric.

Ah yes - the Liberal media are doing their level best to assist Mr. Dion in his attacking the budget and in his "its just not fair" bully remarsk because it seems he can't seem to do it himself.

Good lord - where were all these reporters and columnists when JC was tearing into Stockwell Day.

Back then, it was smart politics and well - they were part of the "in crowd" doing the bullying.

Another instance of hypocrasy from our liberal media.

If you go to the Politics section of CTV NewsNet, you'll see the Liberals fuming over the Taliban remarks is still very much a big story for them as well as Sheila Copps.

The only thing the Liberals have going in to the next election is the lie that Harper is a bully.

Perhaps someone should put out Copps "Rat Pack" days both in opposition and later in government, where she and other members of the Liberal party used vile personal attacks on a daily basis and the media fawned over them for it.

I can sure see why the Libs are upset over what Harper said.

It's because he's absolutely correct.

Stephane Dion is getting very close to being pidgeonholed as a crybaby wimp.

That rep will be even harder to shake loose.

Love it when their victims are being held, or are outnumbered ~ Love to dish out the pain and the ratpack vermin-infested poisnous rants and slams ~ but they just can't take a retalia-TORY shot to the glass chin.

domage! NOT!

BTW: Wasn't Tequila
sheila the wack-job rookie back-bencher and proto-type rat-packer who hurdled over her desk in the House, threatening to nail some SOB on t'other side of the floor?

Just checking my memory bank here.

I think the Lib's are so furious about this because they know that it is sticking to them. The Canadian public has seen their lack of respect and support for the Canadian Armed Forces. The public can remember when we had to beg, borrow and steal to get our soldiers and equipment to where we were needed. The Lib's know that the public is in a punishing mood and they are the target for some spanking.

Trying to divert the wrath that is coming their way by playing up the "bully-card" is the only escape route left open to them. Their tame lap-dogs, the MSM will of course make the Lib's out to be the victims in this whole affair.

Too bad that during their last 13 years in power they took victims rights and threw them in the trash, isn't it?

Rob, here is a bit more help. Go to Joanne's link that is texted "ever indignant," go to the last two sentences of the second paragraph, read them, and then read the third and fourth paragraphs.

...a la Copps:

"No one actually believes the Grits love the Taliban more than our own soldiers and by claiming it, Harper hurt only himself."....gee, no one, Sheila??? Are you sure? You didn't ask me, or many others who have written that Harper only said what they were thinking.

"His rebukes, however, had the opposite effect."...wrong again Tequila Sheila. Her writing (I rarely read her columns anymore) has the opposite effect on me than what she intends. I find her to be one of those who must have landed here on a UFO....hmmm...that might explain the liberal mindset.:-)

'People want to believe their prime minister is a nice guy.'....in 2007 (post 9/11), I, for one, want a leader, strong and knowledgeable.

'Somehow, Harper has managed to confuse excessive testosterone with leadership. '....and is the opposite true? that Dion has managed to confuse excessive estrogen with being an opposition leader??? (I know, my bad.) :-)

'Needs to share'....huh???

I think that Tequila Sheila needs to put the glass down. :-)

Vicki, Brian, Joanne - sorry folks, but none of that is useful if we are looking for tangible damage.

I think you may be getting lost in your own rhetoric. It's fine to be partisan, but not at the expense of being realistic.

I guess Sheila missed that Post column telling Dion to quit whining?

Rob, i think you don't understand "tongue in cheek sarcasm".

Rob, what I was specifically thinking of here was his stubborn refusal to extend the ATA sunset provisions; even against the best advice of the Liberal-dominated Senate and several high-ranking Liberals including Irwin Cotler and Bob Rae. Also, his reluctance to back certain tough justice bills dangerous in my opinion.

He is pandering to the left trying to snare some NDP votes at the expense of public safety.

Anonymous said...

Ok, fair enough. I actually hadn't though of that.

I could see why you would think that not renewing provisions that hadn't been used during their entire existence would do damage to our country.

On a side note, I think that it is interesting that those on the right insist that Dion is moving left, while those on the left insist that Dion is moving right. I explain the phenomenon here.

As for Sheila, I guess she could write book called, "Nobody's Bully".

Joanne (True Blue) said...

That's right. It's an insurance policy (the 72 hours holding provision). You really hope you won't need it, but good to have it in your back pocket.

According to Bob Rae, one of the measures was needed for the Air India inquiry to continue the investigations. Why is Dion against that?

Tarkwell Robotico said...

I have no idea. Thank goodness Gerard Kennedy is having a lawsuit that will allow us to find out. Plus there's that court case out in BC that should help. And maybe TDH can be goaded into telling us more...

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Yes indeed. Let's get it all out - Kim Bolan's mole, Jonathan Kay's John Doe, and all that intrigue going on in La-la Land on the West coast.

Lots of pieces to a very complex and obsure puzzle.

Anonymous said...

Those measures were not meant for investigating crimes that have already happened. They were intended to prevent future crimes.

we haven't used these defibrilators yet, so lets junk 'em

That actually wasn't what I was saying. I was just pointing out that it is absurd to pretend that the junking of the defibrilators has done "so much damage to our country in such a short time".

Keep in mind that the defibrilators had consequences, and were not more useful than many things which are already in place, particularly if we are talking about terrorism perpetrated from abroad.

Obviously, reasonable people can disagree on the need for the provisions. Over-the-top rhetoric does not contribute to that debate.

You do realize that your "HUGE!!! Scandal!" is old news here in Victoria, don't you?

It's a pattern. Dion is making Bill Graham's record look positively brilliant by comparison.

Juicy scandals have no best-before date.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

And anyway, Red, it's still relevant.

Red Tory said...

It's a total non-event here and I suspect it will be everywhere else. Sour grapes from this Mulligan fellow. Also, his allegations are without substance.

Sorry but there's no "there, there" with this so-called scandal.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

his allegations are without substance.

Meaning?

Red Tory said...

You can read about it here. Much ado about nothing. Here's a suggestion... why not put on your intrepid citizen journalist's hat on and send Mulligan an e-mail (mulligan@mtplaw.com) to see if you can get the skinny on this so-called scandal. Or phone him: 1 800 664 2785.

Red Tory said...

Oh, and by the way, Anne Park Shannon got the nomination by acclamation. She wasn't "installed" as Mulligan claims although that was certainly an option for the Libs. One they didn't need to exercise however.

Why Florence would you be shouting me down? I don't believe I said anything rude or nasty. I'm just providing Joanne with some information she might want to dig into if she feels this is really a big deal. Maybe before everyone goes bonkers, it would be prudent to do a little digging to get the facts straight.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

lol! Florence, this is Red Tory being nice. You obviously have never seen his darker side. ;)

Robedger states:
"Those measures were not meant for investigating crimes that have already happened. They were intended to prevent future crimes."

Wrong.

"The measures in question -- preventive arrest and investigative hearings -- were introduced by the Liberal government of Jean Chretien in December 2001 shortly after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, but have never been used. The first allows police to arrest suspects without a warrant and detain them for up to 72 hours without charges; the second empowers judges to compel witnesses to testify at special hearings."
