I was just listening to Elizabeth Witmer on a local news-talk show. Liz is one accomplished and classy lady. She is gracious, but can cut through the BS with razor-sharp clarity.
No offense to John Tory, but I sure do wish Elizabeth was the leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative party. Tory seems like a nice guy, but I just don't see him being able to wrestle the crown from McGuinty. Anyway, as I said in a previous post, it may actually be to the Federal Conservatives' advantage to have the Ontario Liberals working well with the Harper government.
But in my daydream, Elizabeth Witmer would be the leader. Her deputy would be the witty, no nonsense attack-dog Tim Hudak.
I would love to see those two go up against McGuinty and Smitherman.
Suggestion to John Tory: Get Elizabeth and Tim into some of those ads! You're not trying to sell sleep-aids, John.

You've got that right Joanne. I know both Mrs. Witmer and Mr. Hudak personally. The MPP I worked for was part of the "four" Niagara caucus of which Tim was one member. In person, she is just as down to earth and classy as she is in the spotlight. She would certainly give McShifty a run for his money. And Tim, well, he is very outgoing and never at a loss for words. A real nice guy. Had a great staff too -- should they read this (Anna)!
I've met both of them as well. They are both talented, enthusiastic people.
You are much too nice re: Tory. Luckily, that makes you very likeable.:D
Having heard John Tory give a speech, I know he can be much more effective than this. Does the advertising agency that produced these commercials have any Liberal ties?

Exactly. What a waste of donations!
I'd say that if Tory can't make better use of the political ammo provided by the Ontario Liberals he's not much of a political leader.
Oh well...our own Hugh McFadden is showing little ability on this front as well.
In high school, my friends and I got a petition going to make Ontario's school's more energy efficient. Small things, like switching to high efficiency light bulbs - nothing outrageous. We got over 600 signatures. Not bad considering that our school had around 700 people in it.
We heard that Elizabet Witmer, then education minister, was going to be coming to our school to give a speech to all the students in the gym, so we asked the principle if we could present the petition to her when she was done. She thought it was a great idea, so she arranged everything with the ministers office and they agreed. When the day came, we presented her with the petition and the assembled students cheered. She said she woud present it to the Premier. We were pretty excited until we found the petition, and our weeks of hard work, in a garbage can near the parking lot later that day. She didn't even bother to wait until she got off school property to throw it in the trash.
I bought an Ontario Liberal Party membership the next day.

It happened years ago. It was very disappointing and its a personal story. If you don't believe me, that's fine. I'm not particularly interested in what you think, just passing on my thoughts about her.

Hello again Joanne, read your profile. Another good conservative newspaper read is the-Weekly Telegraph. Newspaper stands and Safeway sells it at least at the Greater Vancouver area.

I think that's worth an email to Elizabeth Witmer.

My father sent her office a lengthy e-mail about it years back and, of course, nothing.
I was in grade 10 (or 11, perhaps) then and I'm quite over it but it was disappointing nonetheless.

I find that quite disappointing as well. How will I reconcile this apparent conflict? Now there's just Tim Hudak left. And all those horrible Liberals.

Meh, most politicians are scum anyways.

off topic, but Joanne(tb),
have a look at Jason Cherniak's entry on Liberal policy (not for its genius) but for a very, very interesting comment left by TDH strategies towards the end of the thread:
"Navdeep's fundametalist roots are well known by everyone in the apne community."
hmmmmmmm.......
hmmmmmmmm.......
Chucker - You are Super Sleuth!
joanne(tb),
I'm going to try to smoke them out.
Hey super sleuth Joanne... I said something awfully cute about you today... ;)
JBG - Ya did? To whom?
Hey, now I know what JBG's talking about!
I am on his Who's Who in Blogs list!
"JoanneTB - sword at the ready, this is a blogger who won't back down, ever - She-Ra for sure."
That is so cool!
Oh, and I love what you wrote about the 'Rank rutting reeky' Red Tory. Ha!
