As the plot sickens

So much is happening in response to the Jonathan Kay article, it's hard to keep up.

Many thanks to reader Biff for the tip in the previous post regarding Kay's response to the Deal Deniers. I am presently trying to piece this altogether.

In addition, National Newswatch has just posted a Globe story, Leadership Losers Draw Liberal Salaries:

Gerard Kennedy and Martha Hall Findlay are receiving salaries from the Liberal Party to help prepare for the coming election, but how much they earn is being kept secret.

The lack of transparency is causing concern among some Liberals and leading to speculation that private deals were made because Mr. Kennedy and Ms. Hall Findlay were the two leadership candidates who dropped off the ballot early and threw significant support behind Stéphane Dion. The secrecy is also driving speculation among some Liberals that Ms. Hall Findlay and Mr. Kennedy are earning big salaries.

This is all starting to unravel in a most curious manner of allegations countered with self-righteous indignation and denials.

Stay tuned. And please weigh in with your own perspective.

Update
: Dion responds to Kay.

Meanwhile, back at the polls...

OOPS! Now there's a LAWSUIT brewing!

This is almost too delicious for words.

Of course, the liberal blogesphere is coming back with SH and his use of the Challenger - they must have missed the fact that the PM is not allowed to travel on commerical flights.

Of course, they will be getting back to me with links to where PM and JC paid for their personal flights.

How much fun is it to be a Liberal - always being caught with their hands in the cookie jar!

PS - Joanne, glad to see you removed the visual verification as I couldn't post for the past couple of weeks.

When he was Opposition leader, Stephen Harper paid an MP's salary to Conservative Party worker Josée Verner, a defeated candidate in the 2004 election, to help with election readiness in Quebec.

o/t but still Liberal secret funds, the Liberals Senators secret slush fund of $300,000 was shut down too.

Senate shuts down little-known emergency fund
Feb. 28 2007
CTV.ca News Staff

''The Senate has shut down a slush fund that gave thousands of dollars to Liberals over the past year, and at least one Conservative senator only learned of the fund recently, CTV News has learned...

I'm soooo curious what stashed cash will be found when the CWB is exposed for all to see.

knb,
It's Liberals asking the questions, not Conservatives (who don't give a rip what Libs do (legally) with their money but we do enjoy watching Libs rip each other apart).
''The lack of transparency is causing concern among some LIBERALS and leading to speculation that private deals were made because Mr. Kennedy and Ms. Hall Findlay''

Deals, deals, deals...same old Liberals, if you can't win it, buy it!

Kennedy's salary story is in the Globe? Now he has two newspapers to sue :D

Good point, Molar. Read Torian's latest post related to this!

remember when the lib election happened and I said on t.v. dion snubbed kennedy when he was announced as the leader. Now I can understand why lol

Can the Conservatives sue the Liberals, their supporters, and the media, for slander and libel? If so, you won't be able to turn on the TV without seeing a Conservative ad. Newspapers will have to beef up the suspesion on their trucks to handle the extra weight. the Liberals will of course be crying that it is unfair that they can no longer lie and make baseless accusations without paying the price.

I'm so looking forward to April... the AG gets a crack at the Trust Funds the Liberals set up over their tenure.

$10 Billion clams, the Liberals, and un-audited trust funds over a decade.

Like there isn't a crap load of dirt to find there?

the threat of suing for an improper purpose (for instance silencing your political opponents),

is itself potentially a tort of abuse of process.

Also, stating that a journalist "lied" in his reporting, could also be actionable, if it wasn't true, particularily where the maker of the statement knew it wasn't true, but made the statements also for an improper purpose.

the legal world slices both ways,

the libs should watch themselves.

particularily since the discovery process that would involve any suit (either by or against them) could potentially raise some very uncomfortable facts.

Perhaps the Canadian people should sue the Liberals for mismanagement of "our" funds.

this is just plain nonsense. the LPC and every other political party has paid employees. Their salary is negotiated as is usual between an employer and employee. more desparate attempts by conservatives and their partisan swordsmen to portray the libs as fractured and divided.

perhaps conservatives should demand to know how much money was spent by the party on the dion smear campaign?

a further worry, especially for poor joanne, must be john tory's horrible numbers in the polls.

Jeff Davidson mentioned desperate attempts by cons to show the Liberals as divided when the article says "...lack of transparency is causing concern among some Liberals and leading to speculation that private deals were made ..."

Yep, the cons are sure involved.
BTW, is Rae getting a huge salary for preparing the platform and policy book for the Liberals?

Meh. Jeff, on a choice between Liberal or Liberal-lite, it really doesn't matter. We're like B.C. that way.

Tango Juliette sez:

Kennedy and Hall Findlay. Are they gettin' theirs in plain, unmarked, brown envelopes too?

DEE --licious!!

And I just noticed that the UN has slammed Canada for our Left-Coast safe injection site - another Liberal perversion.

And John-Boy Tory? He's gonna hand McTwitchy Dalton's head in a plastic bag. Bet on it!! The LPC is the endangered species of the 21st Century, Fox.

Dontcha luv it when the hits just keep on commin'?

p.s. Joanne -- thanx for making it easier for dimbulbs like me to post again. tj

Hopefully in recyclable brown envelopes!

I TJ, you're far from being a dimbulb. You keep us all on our toes.

I assume you were referring to comment verification though. I was getting a lot of complaints about that. I don't know why it wasn't working right. The downside is that I'll likely start getting more spam again, and then have to turn it on for a while. Pain in the rear.
