Stephane, you are in such trouble

The local Liberal-leaning Torstar spawn has finally seen through the smoke and mirrors.

Glad I didn't cancel my subscription.

I was thinking the motion was to see if we abided by the Kyoto protocal...

Dion wants Harper to commit to meeting those targets, knowing full well it is impossible.

The motion is to confirm Canada's commitment to the Kyoto Protocol.
You and the article are projecting more to it....

Do your homework, or at least read the whole editorial. There is a
bill
too.

Don't you hate when Liberals come trolling your blog, without reading the whole story?

"Silly me, I was thinking the motion was to see if we abided by the Kyoto protocal..."

Well, you got the "silly me" part right...

Boy, the silence from the left is deafening!

I think the Opposition introduced the motion to 1) make themselves look good and 2) embarass the Tories, knowing full well that most Canadians don't understand exactly what Kyoto is and what it would take to satisfy Canada's obligations under Kyoto.

Anon at 1041...you are right on! That is true with any Lib so-called 'policy'.

If a miracle happens, the Torstar papers might start to look at the real science and find that there is no danger of global warming being the the disaster that they are promoting. I haven't had time to read the executive summaary, and of course the science part is not due until May, but from media coverage some things appear to be distorted or completely contradictory. I have heard that the summary claims he Greenland ice sheet will melt in 50 years, also the summary claims that the sea level will rise as much as 3 feet in the next hundred years, but that the science portion puts the maximum rise of the sea level at 17 inches, of course this figure is before the science portion is tuned to agree with the executivwe summary. The summary was written by politicians and beauracrats suppplemented by a few scientists(any scientist that was not a firm supporter of global warming was definately not invited.)
The melting of the Greenland ice sheet is estimated to raise thee sea level by 30 feet. You can obviously see that the scientists do not think there is going to be anything but minor problems assocaited with globasl warming with regards to sea level, and the melting of the icecap is a non starter. When you add he fact that the sealevel has been rising by ten to twelve inches for centuries without man's contribution, the spectre of a huge catastrophy caused by rising sea levels is just a scare tactic, with no scientific support.
I have heard some interesting things about Al Gore on the radio. Apparently Mr. Gore , the champion of the enviornment, recycling, renewable energy, and sacrifice to save the planet, has at least three homes, and an unconfirmed at the time, possibility of a fourth. One of them is a modest little four thousand square foot home. Another is just slightly larger at ten thousand sqare feet, and has only eight bathrooms. The electic utilities at two of his homes offer a green energy option. For a few cents extra a kwh you can use renewable energy. The Gore name is conspicuously absent from the list of homeowners who have participated in these programs. When asked about this, the reply was that they were considering participation. Apparently even Al Gore does not believe in his movie, at least if it costs him any money.
Unfortunatly I missed the part on the use of private jets to promote the movie by Al Gore and at least one of his producers, so I can't give you any details. However I trhink it is clear that Mr. Gore firmly believes in the concept of do as I say, not as I do.

This Kyoto business is nothin gmore than political games and grandstanding like a political gang-bang. But guess who's the one who's going to get screwed? Hint: it's not Stephen Harper.

That's right. And undestimating the public's intelligence could come back to bite them. Many in MSM are waking up to the fact that this is a big scam. I'm not saying that climate change isn't a reality. Humans may be contributing to some degree, but to frame Kyoto as the magic bullet is extremely disingenuous.

Dion and the Libs are hoping/counting on Canadians being ignorant on what living up to Kyoto really means, just to gain victory. Kind of a sad commentary on what Liberals think of us voters. No matter to them that it's a really stupid deal. They just want to win. As if anything we do here in tiny-populated Canada could have much of an effect on global warming.

Sad thing is, so many Canucks just take their CBC medicine every night and believe what is presented as gospel truth.

Liberal policy failures that would lead us to bankruptcy if implemented are probably not what most Canadians want, we tried high unemployment and high prices in the seventies.

I'm a little confused. I thought that a private members bill couldn't be a "money" bill.

Isn't forcing the government to abide by Kyoto, and buy carbon credits, considered a money bill?

Maybe I'm missing something here....

In a discussion with someone who is intelligent and whom I respect, he believes that the Liberals know that we can't meet the Kyoto targets, nor do they want to.

They only want to get back into power, because that's all they care about.

Once in power, they would say that they can't really meet the Kyoto targets because the Conservatives did nothing. So, they would essentially do nothing themselves.

It's all a game to them. This is why I had such a difficult time trying to understand what they were thinking. They weren't.

They're lying.

From the bill:

"Canadians want to take responsibility for their environmental problems, and not pass those problems on to future generations,"

Yes....and other countries should take responsibility for their environmental problems, and not pass those problems on to other countries in the way of money transfers.

"global climate change is one of the most serious threats facing humanity and Canada, and poses significant risks to our environment, economy, society and human health,"

No....it's not a serious threat. Check out the Fraser Institute's analysis of the summary. The Fraser Institute used the data from the IPCC summary, so if someone thinks that the Fraser Institute was paid by the Oil Barons to write their analysis, then so must have the IPCC because the Fraser Institute used their data.

A far bigger threat is terrorism, that is slowly and silently creeping around the world.

"2) A Climate Change Plan shall respect provincial jurisdiction and take into account the relative greenhouse gas emission levels of provinces."

Good....then hands of Alberta. Quit talking out of both sides of your mouth.....Mark Holland...Stephane Dion.

It's a first for the Liberals to say that they're getting out of provincial jurisdiction now, isn't it???

I think the Opposition introduced the motion to... embarass the Tories

whats there to be embarassed about - unless you messed up somewhere

Anon 83:

They only want to get back into power, because that's all they care about

1. If the liberals think that the conservatives are messing up, and they know that they can do a better job - i think it only seems right to try to take the position back at the helm.

2. but is it really the liberals who want power?
what about the cons giving a tobacco proccessing company a tax break
tobacco proccessing company a tax break -- worth about $500,000, that is "is aimed at the constituency of Immigration Minister Diane Finley, who is thought to be in some danger of losing the next election."
