On backroom deals and sleaze

A reader has just provided me with a few interesting tips and links. I am assuming she wishes to remain anonymous, so I won't divulge anything other than these little tidbits, which I present to you for your thoughtful consumption.

First we have "RCMP allegedly seized Liberal Party donor lists in March 2005", by Bill Tieleman.

Also, "Senior Tory Wants Answers".

And here, "Raids Prompt Revelations of Martin-Campbell Connections."

I have a colleague working on this as well. There may well be more to follow.

* * * *

Update: ChuckerCanuk has an amazing analysis of this whole sordid series of events, and the subsequent ramifications pertaining to current controversies - "Maybe the Answers will come from Lotusland". Don't miss this!

Its a shame how you have to resort to ambiguous events from past liberal leadership.

It seems like conservatives really dont know how to do anything but be the "opposition" -- dont worry, since you're so good at it, you'll end up there.

Nothing to do with an "opposition" mindset.

The Liberal Party is systemically and irretreivably corrupt and anything done to kill it and drive a stake through it's heart is fine by me.

When I am convinced it is good and truly dead, I will drink champagne till my bladder is ready to burst, then find it's grave and piss on it.

Uh 2005 wasn't that long ago was it? Secondly, where is the NEW LIBERAL attitude of: we screwed up and owe you guys (electorate), an apology and we don't do business like that anymore? Well it doesn't exist because you scumbags stills cheat as much as ever.
(real conservative)

Maybe OT and I would not say this is necessarily sleazy. However, when you think about the implications down the road for the independence of these two or when you consider the still un-repaid money that the LPC got from Canadian taxpayers through fraud....
Maybe it deserves some further inspaction!

pgp -

sending a link, without offering an explanation is not very persuasive.

I read the article, so whats the big deal?

did you also read this in the same article?

When he was Opposition leader, Stephen Harper paid an MP's salary to Conservative Party worker Josée Verner, a defeated candidate in the 2004 election, to help with election readiness in Quebec.

Whats wrong with a party, conservative or liberal, giving money to people working for them?

mmm...still can't let go of the sponsorship program hey. This issue was settled by Gomery.

Time to move on pgp...time to move on...

"mmm...still can't let go of the sponsorship program hey. This issue was settled by Gomery."

While I may agree that it could be time to move on, this issue was NOT settled by Gomery - The issue of who in the Liberal party accepted money and who in the Liberal party knew about the scheme has never been answered.

Just wishful thinking on your part.

gomery left many unanswered questions:

Mr Cote...$125,000...$100 bills...stuffed into brown envelopes and sliped to ... 12 Liberal candidates

What Liberals got the stolen taxpayers money?
What ridings were involved?
Dion won't tell us.
Scumbags, all of you Liberals for protecting these thieves. And then to be threatening, on a daily basis, to sue someone for defamation and liable....well, look at the poll numbers today Libs, the jig is up.
Canadians finally got your number.

Listen, neither was Brian and his investment in the pasta buisness. At least the bad apples in the liberal party have been dealt with.

The party has had several leaders at the healm since the matter was settled.

New leader, New Leadership. Its time to move on AG...really...

Quite honestly,

I think the millions unfortunately lost in the sponsorship program as a result of a few bad apples compared to to the billions of dollars, and precious lives lost in the Iraq war if Haper had a majority, is nothing.

Anonymous said...

Also, speaking of stealing money - it didn't dent any of us financially the sponsorship issue.
None of us lost our capacity to purchase anything...

The income trust fund though - that was stealing. Promising to keep it, and then flip flopping. People lost their savings because of the PROMISE --- not to mention the billions that companies lost.

So here you are blaming the liberals (who took us out of the debt) about "possibly" ruining the economy over kyoto (all speculations) --

and the CONS fricken whipped out BILLIONS (fact) in one day.

So i'm sure you feel the same about McGuinty in Ontario.. You know, "I won't raise your taxes".
That broken promise has taken biliions from Ontario taxpayers pockets and will continue to do so.

And also, just think of the stupidity of your argument. A change in federal tax policy, compared with illegal fraud, money laundering, kickbacks, and election fraud. Yep, pretty fair comparison.

Boy, I sure missed that press release.

Anyone who had all of their money into income trusts was either a bad investor or had bad investment advice. If they sold right away, see above. Those of us who divest our investments are doing fine, even with the dive the markets have taken in the past few days. Don't blame the government for closing a tax loophole, when you made "iffy" investments. Credible market analysts knew it was coming, the Liberals were going to do it, but backed off when they thought it would lose them votes.

With Dalton - keep provincial politics at that level. It is irrelevant to this national matter.

regardless of how much people or companies invested - their actions were directly a result of a PROMISE that the government made.

When a few liberals screwed up with the sponsorship(mind you, not over policy issues) - Martin called in Gomery to resolve it. Thats accountability.

When the conservatives screwed up -- they didn't even apologise.

Boy, I sure missed that press release

Thank gosh we did, because harper didn't have a government then. But Iran is still a possibility...

Really, why? Because you have no answer to the fact that Dalton's lies cost Ontarians in excess of $2 billion a year. Ongoing. Year after year.

His excuse. Things changed.Same reason for the trust tax reversal. And I'm pretty sure McGuinty will be front and center in the event of a spring federal elction extolling the virtues of Dion.

Better start putting money aside then.

From same article: "...I think we've indicated very clearly that we're not looking for an election this year," he (Baird) said outside the Commons.

That didn't persuade Dion, who is predicting the Tories will force an early vote.

"Otherwise why they would come with these negative ads against me?" said Dion.

Oh, boy. I'd better not go there.

OMMAG said...

"Otherwise why they would come with these negative ads against me?" said Dion.

Go ahead...say it Joanne ;)

My suggestion....because we can!

Some faint indication in MSM push polls that maybe sheeple are beginning to think about how bad the Liberals really are. Dion can't be helping...even in Quebec.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Ah, I don't know... Maybe it's everyone calling Harper a bully, but Dion reminds me of that nerdy kid in the schoolyard that everyone just wants to beat up.

I mean, doesn't he just stand there asking for it?

I'm sorry. Couldn't help myself.

Maybe more than faint. Check out the latest AngusReid poll of almost 3200 Canadian decided voters taken from Feb 20 - 27. The Conservatives have a 40% to 26% lead over the Liberals.

But without backroom deals and sleaze, there wouldn't be a Liberal Party?

"mmm...still can't let go of the sponsorship program hey. This issue was settled by Gomery.Time to move on pgp...time to move on..." Anon Thu Mar 01, 03:25:00 PM EST

No, as a taxpayer who is not plugged into the Liberal sleaze and thieve gravy train, it's not that I CAN'T let go of the Librano adscam corruption crap.

I DON'T WANT to let go, because I DON'T EVER WANT THOSE THIEVING DICK-TWISTERS TO GET BACK INTO POWER AND TAKE ANOTHER RUN AT THE NATIONAL TREASURY, NUMB-NUTZ!! (BTW: You sure don't sound like a taxpayer that's not part of the Librano scam scheme of the week program.) No, this issue was NOT settled by Gomery. The investigation was limited in scope by the limiting mandate foisted on it by Dithering Paul.

20 - 25 Liberal riding seats were bought with stolen money. Do you know which ones they were? If you can't identify them, then ALL are suspect. Where's all that other cash that Martin wouldn't let Gomery go after? Martin? Accountability? Don't make me laugh! Please! I'm having trouble braking in a new truss. . .

+ BTW: Dion, as Min of Environment has already blown over 6 billion bux, buckaroo. Untraceable. So far. The time for Canadian taxpayers to move on, is after you and your kind have finally, once and for all, been totally and absolutely eradicated from the face of the earth. Then we move on. Right after we hold a foot-stompin' zaydeco dance party on your grave. Then we'll gladly move on.

Holy crap! I think he's got it!

Nice to see that you've come to your senses, learned a valuable truth, and are finally willing to admit it all publicly.

Now, that wasn't so bad, was it, dimbledorque?
