Kooky Suzuki Smack-down

Licia Corbella is quickly becoming one of my favourite columnists. Today she gives it to David Suzuki and his Kyoto Kult followers (Mean and Not So Green).

Apparently Corbella received hundreds of emails from enraged Suzuki fans, when she had the audacity to point out in a previous column that the Canadian High Priest of Environmental Shlock, along with his American counterpart Al Gore, doesn't exactly walk the talk - and when he does talk, the results are often more 'blue' than green.

Corbella goes on to explain how she is green without the vulgarity and hypcrisy. But her explanation will likely fall on deaf lemming-ears.

Because just as in traditional religion, if you're a believer that's all you need - faith. Science and logic are not required.

Thursday Update: Suzuki apologist here.

Corbella wouldn't know science or logic even if they simultaneously took a large bite out of her a**. I will recommend, however, that she remove her head from said a** before they inevitably chow down.

Yay Corbella! Challenge Suzuki to a debate! Oh wait, you're a moron. Never mind.

And don't they demonstrate incredible integrity and conviction, signing in as 'Anony-mouse'?

She's a wonderful columnist, and last week I wrote a letter to the editor telling them as much.

However, her last sentence of the article is one I disagree with totally. She writes:

"But they should know when it comes to our love of the environment, we're not that different."

I'm not convinced that Suzuki actually loves the environment, and I'm judging him by his "actions" not his "words."

As my mom used to say...."Talk is cheap." :-)

Raz, good point. Suzuki really gets me going when he starts with the arrogant, holier-than-thou attitude.

Show me; don't tell me.

BTW, kudos for writing to the editor to express your appreciation. I'm sure Ms. Corbella was grateful to receive a little positive feedback along with the ranting.

I myself would like to see Suzuki or Gore comment on the recent nasty storms, say the one that decimated Stanley Park, which are being attributed to all the new coal plants in Asia.

If the planet is facing Armageddon(spelling), surely these two crusaders will be at the forefront in putting a stop to any future plants, of which i believe China has in excess of 500 planned.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Paulsstuff - Good point. I believe Suzuki's response to China's lack of action is that someone has to show leadership - i.e. us.

Yeah, I'm sure China would follow our example when it is economically to their advantage to do nothing. Yup. Uh-huh.

"A habit of basing convictions upon evidence, and of giving to them only that degree or certainty which the evidence warrants, would, if it became general, cure most of the ills from which the world suffers."
Think Suzuki ever read any Bertrand Russell??

and also this from Bertrand Russell, which I found on a hockey forum (believe it or not)

"The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt."

Corbella surprised me that she is doing her bit recycling and all.

She came across as a crybaby that Suzuki doesn't want to give interviews whenever some reporter accosts him at a concert he is attending as a private citizen. I'm sure John Denver would have told her to buzz off if he was out shopping too. She was being a paparazzi, and trying to call Suzuki names on that basis was silly.

Why did she continue her column after declaring that humans do not affect climate change? If she has determined it is all bogus, then that is pretty much it. Who cares if Gore and Suzuki do not "walk the walk" as well as she thinks they should. What difference would it make? If she thinks human affected climate change is real, then certainly she should point out when she thinks they are not doing their share. But who cares, if humans don't affect climate change?

Too many Kyotologists have double standards when it comes to credentials. They attack the credentials of any person who indicates doubt about following the Treaty.

However, they ignore the lack of credentials of the great high priest of Kyotology, Dr David Suzuki himself. Go to his web site, click on About Us at the top right, then on the good doctor's name on the left, and you will come to this page. It describes him as a geneticist (first sentence of fourth paragraoh of his biography). Click on the word here near the top, under the good doctor's name, and as indicated you will get his CV. It gives his complete academic and scientific credentials. Not once is climatology, atmospherics, or meteorology (the science dealing with phenomena of the atmosphere, expecially weather processes and weather forecasting) mentioned.

One would think that if he had scientific or academic credentials concerning global warming or climatology, he would trumpet them aloud, and not hide them. One can only conclude that he has no such credentials.

When he speaks on climatology or global warming or Kyoto, he is therefore speaking on a topic completely outside his area of scientific expertise, which is his right, of course. Nevertheless, his views on Kyoto and climatology and global warming have no more authority than yours or mine.

Brian, for your penance, you must eat three Tofu burgers, and turn down your house temp to 10 degrees C. for 24 hours.

...whew, Joanne. I'm glad that's only a punishment for Brian.

However, if it was for all of us, I would just move over to one of my 3 houses , turn the heat up, and eat the real burgers hidden under the tofu burgers in the freezer.

Tofu burgers? I think I'd rather eat liver.

So Suzuki has a waterfront mansion in an area noted for being amongst the most expensive in Canada. Putting aside any other houses he owns, ask yourself that all-important question:

Where did the money come from?

How much of that house was paid for by Canadian tax payers? Suzuki has been on the CBC payroll for many many years. What other sources of income does Suzuki have? His foundation? (non-profit? HA!)

I'm guessing any questions of the High Priest of Kyoto would be inappropriate.

lol!! Actually I love Veggie burgers. I found a great brand - Money's Gargen Burgers made with soy (as oppoosed to beans, which they also make but I like soya better).

Anyway, the secret to a good veggie burger is to NOT overcook it.

I sear it on my grillpan on both sides, and then add a little cajun BBQ sauce for flavour.

Put it on a toasted whole wheat bun and add some grilled veggies like peppers, onions and zucchini, and you have an awesome burger!

Tasty, healthy and eco-friendly.

Maybe I will try it sometime. I might need the penance after some more blaspheny I wrote at Gay and Right, under the post The Great Global Warming Swindle. Some Kyotologist with the handle toronto twink was spewing nonsense ("Dr. David Suzuki is proving, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that climate change deniers are liars and arrogant hypocrits." was his third sentence), so I took the gloves off, and enlightened him about the complete lack of scientific and academic credentials of Kyotology's Great High Priest. Mine is the fifth comment.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Brian, I just checked that out. Well done! Another global-warmer denier decrier shot down in flames.
