It was a Gas!

So what did you think about the Corner Gas season finale?

I don't want to give anything away here, in case some fans have taped it and not actually seen the show yet.

Please tell me what you thought.

Did you cry when Lacy said goodbye to everyone?

Can Stephen Harper act?

Will SEEmus and Bev ever hear their names pronounced properly again?

It was great. On top of it all, what a great spoof on Dallas/Newhart.

Can Stephen Harper act? Lets just say I hope he doesn't quit his day job.
Best line: "They'll put anything on that network."

PS, you've abandoned the stupid "Type in the letters" feature for posting comments?

Joanne (TB),

Here's a shocking critique --

Harper was fantastic. He's so self-deprecating, its such a lovely thing.

Best Prime Minister. Ever.

Brian, comment verification is off for the time being. Everyone said it was a pain.

Yeah, I was so glad they didn't drag it throught the whole season with that Dallas thing. I thought the whole thing was brilliant.

Chucker, I totally agree.

I thought Harper was quite hillarious. Same with Canada AM crew.

Heh. Zac, they were all great! Was that Rosemary Thompson doing the interview? They sure had a lot of the CTV talent in that episode.

Harper was a good sport with the gopher/prairie dog lines.

You guys don't get it.

Harper replied, "Prairie Dogs."

Then when he got no response, he changed his mind to "Gophers."

??????

Got to give the people what they want!!!

Yes, I know this was the script--but is there a message here?

Paul MacPhail said...

The message was simple. Harper was poking fun at politicians. If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laught at?

"Yes, I know this was the script--but is there a message here?"

yes, anonymous, there was a message...it's this..."lighten up."

or..."Dion changes his mind, so Harper can too." The writers may have written the role for Dion, but they thought he would cry, so they changed it to the Prime Minister's role.

or..."PM Harper has a much better sense of humor than some people will admit. They probably just don't 'get it."

I thought that it was a funny episode, and I thought that PM Harper did wonderful. The CTV crew - Seamus, Bev, Rosemary Thompson - and PM Harper played themselves, so their acting really couldn't be critiqued by anyone, now could it?

I especially thought that the writing was good in this episode.

And....bottom line....we have a Prime Minister, folks, who really "is" a Tim Horton's kind of guy. He's not faking it, and that's what I like. He is what he is wherever he is. That's why I think that people used to attribute some kind of "hidden agenda" to him, because he is sooooo different from what we've been used to.

To those who actually "had" a hidden agenda, we never attributed that suspicion. To those who may have been complicit in some shady dealings, we never suspected.

Now we have someone who isn't like the previous government and the public and especially the media (I'm talking Parliamentary Press Gallery especially) doesn't know what to think.

Dang, my hubby had control of the TV so I couldn't see it. Is it on YouTube yet? Anyone tape it? Will it be re-aired? Help, I'm dying of curiousity here!

JJ -- Chucker, I totally agree.

LOL. Funnier than anything in last night's show.

Best PM ever... So much for Sir Robert Borden. And you guys call yourselves "Tories"... Feh.

Chucker and I are unabashed Harperdroids.

Anyway, Harper is without a doubt the best CPC Prime Minister ever. No question about that.

But aside from the politics, Red, did you enjoy the show?

I agree, Paul. As I said earlier, I thought he was a good sport about it all.

Hunter, I think Corner Gas is rerun on the Comedy Network later in the week. It might even be available online at some point.

I'll let you know if I come across it.

Update: Rerun here (Saturday)

Received confirmation in the ol' inbox today that the leader of the Liberal party has been monitoring Garths blog and was THE reason he removed the political whore comment.

His "bug" apparantly is a load of BS. Dion has "asked" Turner to stop adding comments to posts made by users.

It was so hilarious! Stephen Harper was a real hoot! I loved the Dallas/Newhart spoof. Both hubby and I yelled that out and out kids were totally oblivious to what we were talking about. Mr. Harper was better on the Rick Mercer show though. I still go online to watch that one over again. Corner Gas certainly beats Little Mosque on the Prarie hands down.

dianne,

i watch the RMR skit over and over again, too. I loved it.

And harper was great on corner gas last night.

I agree, he truly is our tim horton's PM. And personally? I find the taste of tim's coffee is much better than starbucks. starbucks is too acidic and the whole store is so pretentious (grande? tall? why not small medium and large for cripes' sake??)

Even the clientelle are different. I'm much more likely to break into a conversation with the people in line at tims' while we wait to be served. At starbucks, no one says a word, but everyone flashes their symbols of status- so no substance, just style.

kinda like the LPC

Joanne -- I think it might be better on second viewing (which for the benefit of Hunter will be on Saturday night on the Comedy Network). My reaction was "Oof!" when they pulled their stunt at the end. Can't really say more than that without giving away too much of the story...

I guess I’ll have to tell that to the retired folks who hang out the local Starbucks in my neck of the woods. Not exactly a pretentious bunch unless you consider doing the crossword and jawing about the weather to be “high fallutin”. Is a scooter a status symbol?

Yeah. "Oof" plus "whew!"

Hunter, please let us know once you've seen it!

Absolutely shades of Dallas & Newhart (I had forgotten how that series ended).

BTW, I disagree with both chuckercanuck and Red Tory. IMHO, Sir John A Macdonald was the best PM we had (the Pacific scandal notwithstanding), not Harper (but give him time), nor Sir Robert (though I think he was right up there near the top).

I loved the Blue Rodeo music in the background too. One of my favourite bands.

This is very disturbing though! Little Mosque is poaching talent from Corner Gas!!!

I thought it was great. Love the show, SH was good in his part. (and the lady cop is HOT!)

And although I am more of a Tim's type of guy myself, I do prefer Starbucks or 2nd Cup java to Tims. I like the bitterness SB's has and I buy the beans from Costco.

Tim's coffee is good, but I f**king hate those useless cups and lids! Everytime I use them I curse roundly at them and my wife gets pissed at me when the cursing-pottymouth-logger persona rears itself again. You CANNOT drive down the road 20' without hot java launching itself out those lids.

Which reminds me, I keep meaning to write Tim's to let them know my displeasure about the mickey-mouse cups and lids they insist on serving coffee in... maybe later..

Stephen Harper's presence on the show was disturbing.
