Corner Gas Spoiler Alert

I was going to talk about the Liberal mole this morning, but this is much more important:

It seems that Monday's season finale of Corner Gas is going to have more than just Stephen Harper as the drawing card - There will also be a huge plot shocker (which could be a shocker in itself since most people can't detect a plot). Don't read any further if you would prefer to be surprised.

We get a glimpse here from the Sun's Bill Harris, who BTW, is obviously not a big Harper fan.

As for Harper’s performance, heck, he fits right in. After all, part of the shtick on Corner Gas is that it’s a little dry and a little stiff.

Well, whatever. The man is a politician; not an actor (although some would disagree).

Anyway, I've decided not to give away the ending after all. If you really want to know, Harris' column provides some details. More at Stephen Taylor's update.

Should CTV have leaked the ending like this?

Will Brent open another gas station near Little Mosque? Will Jack Bauer try to help out and end up being tortured by hungry prairie dogs?

This is going to be a long summer.

Oops....didn't know the show was ending. I just read the update on Stephen Taylor's site. Guess you'll have to write your own sitcom, Joanne. :-)

"Little House on the Rideau Canal?"

"Little House ....even littler opposition minds."

"Cornered by His Own Gas Emissions...Dion's Dilemma"

lol! Raz, thanks. I like your suggestions for spin-off series.

I'm hoping it will all be someone's dream, as Bill Harris suggests.

If not, it will be more like a nightmare for me.

By shooting all the episodes and scenes in summer ( even the ludicrous Grey Cup one )the Toronto oriented producers missed a big opportunity!

As a sequel series....
"Corner Gas the Winter Series"
Wherein we see every outdoor scene shot with attention paid to what the prairie actually looks like in the winter. As opposed to the endless sunny warm summer days of the current series.
- Characters participate in snowmobiling and many forms of indoor sport.
- Chance to see stranded travelers holed up in various venues.
- Davis gets his cruiser stuck frequently.
Sun dogs, sunny days, blizzards and white outs, mud encrusted vehicles, frostbite, drunken stupors and cabin fever! Winter trips to Regina (the big city!).
And we never did get a visual on the old SK chestnut about watching your dog run away for 3 days!

Maybe CTV is trying to break the 2 million mark with this episode. I know I’ll certainly be watching.

I read someplace that they’d sold the series to a network in New Zealand but that it didn’t translate too well with the Kiwis.

Is it definite that the show is ending? Or is it just the season that is ending? I've heard conflicting information. Anyway, I intend to watch it. Heck, I'd even watch it if Stephane Dion or Jack Layton were on it. Maybe even Duceppe as well, though I'm not sure.

lol! Red, you gave me a fright there for a minute..

Brian, I'd even watch it if David Gag-Me Suzuki was on it!

Paul Martin was on it, thats when I stopped.

Apparently Butt's agent says there's no truth to the rumour that the show is ending. (Didn't seem likely given the ratings and the teaser press release from CTV).

Also, did you know that CTV signed a distribution deal with a superstation in Chicago that will make the show available to 70 million viewers in the U.S. via cable?

Now I'll get to resolve a long-standing argument with my wife as to whether the show would play south of the border. (I thought it would, she didn't -- "Too Canadian" according to her.)

If Red Green can develop a following in the States, I'm sure Corner Gas can too. Lord knows it's better than a lot of the crap that's on US prime time TV.

Maybe we'll see a guest appearance by Flavor Flav.

Well, that's good. Now I'll be able to sleep tonight. That's one of the few comedies I watch regularly. Perhaps the only one.

Cherenkov - I was thinking about Red Green too. I don't know what it is about Corner Gas, but it's way better than RG, and as you say, RG did well in the US. No reason why CG won't except that some of the political jokes and guest appearances might have to broaden a bit to include a U.S. audience.

Would that be a good thing or not?

You're kidding, right?

Trailer Park Boys has had pretty good viewers numbers since being shown in the States.

I'm sure Corner Gas would do the same. It's just a matter of getting to watch a few episodes to get into the characters.

First time i saw Corner Gas i thought it was pathetic. But it grew on me after a few shows.

And I'll take any series over the reality TV cr5ap.

Very good news, Red. Thanks.

More good news. Thanks again, Red.

It's not just better than a lot of crap on TV, it's much better. Unfortunately, Cherenkov, with respect to TV (particularly, but not exclusively, in the US) quality programming and popular programming are not synonymous.

I live in New Zealand and I haven't seen the series here as of yet... I sure hope to!!! I've seen a few clips from it. yeah i can see why people wouldn't like it... but I can also think of many who will enjoy it! on that point, we need NHL coverage on tv here damn it!

Welcome New Zealand! I do hope you get this marvelous show someday.

It's a gas! ;)
