It's Fun to Go to the YWCA

I'm having a little trouble swallowing CTV's report about the YWCA study saying that "Most Canadians would prefer a national day-care program over a federal cash payout". I had so much difficulty that I emailed the Y to get the stats on this 'Study'. To their credit, they sent back a link to an extensive document, Building a Community Architecture. The Y's own press release says: "The results give evidence that Canadian communities want a national child care program. They are willing to invest resources and are committed to its full development." I don't remember anyone asking me about this. I emailed them back to find out how they selected their sample and how many people participated. The study talks about four 'representative' community task forces across Canada. Still waiting for a response to my query. Colour me skeptic, but why do I think that sample was largely comprised of union members?

Who: YWCA Canada's CEO, Paulette Senior; Hon. Carolyn Bennett (Liberal Children's Critic); France Bonsant (Bloc Critic); Olivia Chow (NDP Child and Youth Critic); Hon. John Godfrey (Liberal Intergovernmental Affairs Critic), Mary Anne Chambers, Ontario Minister of Children and Youth Services.

Look at the names on the list for the YMCA... now you see why it is so biased..

They lie, to get their own way. Sounds like a bunch of children to me..

Boy, you're right! I thought the Liberal-Media Propaganda Alliance was finished after the last election, but apparently not!

No, the story about the toddler being left at the daycare last week was supressed as well. It didn't hit the media that hard, only the bloggers.. I had to send it to our local talk radio station, they didn't know about it either...

They ahve million and millions of dollars also union power... we are screwed literally

Joanne, I agree. In my paper { the Leader Post} { sometimes lovingly refered to as the Liberal Post hehe} I found the article to have alot of info missing. Exactly WHO was polled? It said in SASK Martinsville, which is a very small town anout 3-4 hours from Regina I believe. Will comment further

Nice work joanne and sara, this needs to be put out there. Keep digging and reporting what you find, I can't stand when the media take it upon themselves to report only one side of the story.

Thanks to all of you for the support. If you find anything else out about this, please let me know. There are two issues here really; the daycare one of course, and the Liberal-Media alliance conspiracy that continues to plague us.

Here is an excerpt from my email back to the YWCA National Office:

"Am I correct that you extrapolated the finding that 'Most Canadians would prefer a national day-care program over a federal cash payout' from the comments of your task force representatives? If that is the case, I am having trouble finding how many there were in your survey, and how they were selected."

Still waiting for a reply. The first one came back in nanoseconds. No reponse to this latest message. They may have detected that I am not a sympathizer. ;>}

DITTO PLATTY - "Nice work joanne and sara, this needs to be put out there. Keep digging and reporting what you find, I can't stand when the media take it upon themselves to report only one side of the story."

Please let us know how the YWCA responds to your request for the polling sample data.

Thanks, Jim. I just sent them another request for information. I'll let you know as soon as I hear. My guess is they're trying to figure out how to spin this to cover up an obvious media manipulation ploy.

They're probably in shock that anyone would question their report!!

UPDATE: I have been referred to one of the writers of the report for further consultation. The contact person at the National Office said, "I'm not into the project".

Boy, you're not the only one!

All Hail The Conservative Bloggers!

Thank you Jo, Sara and others for debunking so-called studies like this one from the YWCA that are reported uncritically by the MSM. Many studies and polls are funded by activists with a political agenda. Sample groups can be skewed, poll questions loaded and results selectively interpreted, all to produce the results they want to get.

Your important work in the blogsphere helps to create more savvy Canadian media consumers. Thank you!

Thanks for the encouragement, Joe! Much appreciated.

I think MSM and the activists are getting somewhat unsettled that we bloggers are checking up on them. They are so used to Canadians blandly accepting everything they're fed, that they often stretch things to fit their own agendas.

I just fired off an email to one of the YWCA co-authors asking for details of the participant selection process, so we'll see what happens.

Yep, it was a Liberal con job. Don't these organizations realize that in such deception they are not exactly endearing themselves to the new government?

I guess they expect any funding they get to be cut, although prior to this that was not necessarily a foregone conclusion. It probably is now though.

Joan Tintor has more on this and the suppression of news about the daycare workers strike on her blog.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Steve, I think the Daycare Activists are really hoping that Canadians get worked up about this and start harassing the new government.

Haven't seen too many Moms & Dads marching in the streets yet, though...

UPDATE: My request has been pawned off to yet another person!

Nobody so far at the YWCA has any idea where this comment about "Most Canadians" preferring national daycare came from!!! Maybe they say it on CTV?

Last post should be "saw it" not "say it". Grr... Why can't I edit my own comments?
