I was pleasantly surprised here.

On the other hand, not so surprised here. Susan Delacourt is obviously still green with envy that her party didn't win the last election.
The Phantom Observer has also covered this one - Delacourt's Decorative Delusion. (Try saying that 20 times after celebrating Canada Day!)

Reader Paulsstuff wonders if the stage in this 2002 pic isn't blue? Hard to tell. We'll have to ask Sheila.

Now I admit I am colour blind, but here's a shot of the Canada celebrations from 2002, with a former cabinet minister in the shot. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but the stage looks blue to me, with white and a red maple leaf, no?
Perhaps someone should send this along to Susan:)

Paulsstuff - Good one. Frankly, I've never paid much attention to such things before.
Delacourt must be either paranoid or else really, really bored.
What would Delacourt make of the changing hue in the Liberal Party "red" over the last few years ? That red used to be identical to the red in the flag, but now looks more like purple. And we all know that purple is a combination of red and blue. Kind of a scary change in Liberal messaging, I would think.
C.J. - Send her your thoughts. It should give her something to chew on for another few columns! ;)
Here's 2001. Again, sure looks blue to me.

Also, 2005(Paul Martin) pictures show the same blue stage. I'm going to send Suzie an email demanding she run a correction on her story.
I might also point out that I played in blues/rock bands for a number of years.Might need to dig out the photo albums but if memery is right most outdoor stages i played on were blue as well.

Maybe both?
She seems like a "I'm going to get even" kind of person, judging by some of the comments she's made on Newman's program.
Anyhow, whether predominantly blue or red, it shouldn't bother her preferred party leader, Dion, who is colour blind.

Great! Please let us know if you hear back from her. You might also suggest that she may be in need of a long vacation...
What band did you play in?

Gabby, my thoughts exactly! lol!
He's also willfully blind, but that's another story.
Shouldn't be so surprised about honesty in LiberalBlog Land, Joanne. After all, Liberals (most of them, I think, anyway), are like us: they want peace, order, and good government. We simply happen to have honest, honourable differences of opinions as to how best do it.
Good point, Brian, although I can think of a few who would be insulted to have it suggested that we are similar.
If the blueophobes were really honest they would just either vote Conservative or NDP. It is the middle of the road, which way is the wind blowing, indecisiveness to the point of paralysis, that I find infuriating.
If the Liberals were still in power federally they would still be waiting for a consensus on how to proceed with starting to think about Kyoto and everyone knows it, blueophobes included.
Anybody out there holding their breath waiting for the Liberals to abolish the GST like they promised? I doubt it because Liberals are well known liars and the blueophobes who vote for them are perfectly ok with it. How else could McGuinty ever get into power?
Here's a copy of my email sent to the public editor at the Star. Figure I would try her as in the past Delacourt never seems to reply when posting her wrong information.
It appears your writer Susan Delacourt has a paranoia problem. In her column she alleges that the stage in Ottawa for Canada day is now being painted blue, and tries to attribute that to Stephen Harper and the Conservatives. If she had done her homework, she would find that the stage has in fact always been blue, with the Canadian Maple Leaf and Canada written in red.
Here's just one example from 2002.An easy googlesearch shows the same colours in 2001, 2005 under Paul Martin, and pretty much any year the search produces.

I'm sure a paper such as the Toronto Star that prides itself on it's accuracy and integrity will be sure to have a correction printed in the paper correcting Ms. Delacourts false information.
A reply would be greatly appreciated.

Way to go! Please let me know if they print a retraction. If you supply your full name and phone number, they might use it as a letter to the editor.
Way ahead of ya. I always include my full name, address, and phone number.
Good stuff, Paulsstuff!
I don't have a subscription to the Star so please keep me posted. Thanks.
Mike Duffy made a reference to the 'blue' stage with his closing remarks on his show tonight. Guess he reads the Star too!
