United We Stand

Today, a lot will be said in MSM, and in blogs and other forums as we all stop to remember the terrible events of five years ago today.

As I reflect on my own memories, I recall emotions of shock, horror, disbelief and anger such as I have never experienced before.

I still remember that feeling of nausea in the pit of my stomach as I stayed glued to the television all day long - watching those planes crash into the twin towers over and over again. It was like some sick version of 'Ground Hog Day'.

I can't help wondering if today is a cause for celebration for terrorists worldwide, or if perhaps they fear a renewal of resolve as free nations everywhere set their sights on the enemies of democracy. With all my heart I pray that it is the latter.

Jack Layton, how are you feeling today? Your real thoughts, Jack. Not your talking points.

I think today should be a celebration for all of us, as I look at my children they are happy and safe. For that I am grateful!

Good point, Sara. It sure does put things in perspective. Our torched hard-drive doesn't seem nearly as important today.

A family acquaintance of ours was supposed to be at work at the WTC that morning. For some reason, he was running late, and ended up being one of those people running for their lives across the Brooklyn Bridge. He was injured in the crush. His family didn't know his whereabouts for days. They finally found him in a hospital alive.

When I heard the news I cried.

I think that 9/11 is a day that we here in the West all came out of the denial of burying our collective heads in the sand and took a good hard look at who was trying to kill us and listened more carefully at what they were screaming at us, like “kill the infidels.” And we realized that they meant us and meant it with a vengeance.

cherniak_wtf: unless you've been asleep for the past decade, the "culture of fear, fed by media and government" was in place a long time before 9/11.

How do you think Chretien stayed in power?

Jack Layton doesn't have real thoughts of his own, only loopy-lefty talking points, kinda like the people protesting Condi Rice's appearance in Halifax today. What an utterly classless and disrespectful bunch.

That's giving them too much credit. The only exception is Peter Stoffer. Why he is still with the NDP is as much a mystery as why Rex Murphy is still with the CBC.

I was referring to the people only 20 feet away from me outside the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic yesterday when Secretary Rice came to express her gratitude. "Professional" protest groups annoy the living hell out of me.

Oh, I get what you're saying now.

Wow, that must have been awesome to have been there though! Was she emotional? It seemed that way on the news clip.

Jack Layton probably spent the day signing checks to Hezbollah.... and I'm not even joking.

Did anybody see the article in the Chronicle Herald today where the editorial section noted that at the NDP convention, there was a motion that stated the NDP should recognize Hezbollah as a democratic and responsible political party... but made no mention of terrorism or violence. NDP MP Judy Wasylycia-Leis stood up to protest the motion because they should also consider the terrorist ties Hezbollah has.... SHE WAS BOOED!! can you freaking imagine! BOOED!

The motion passed with 90% support. What does THAT tell you about the NDP?

Riley, I didn't see that exact article but I heard something about it. Shocking.

I must add Judy W-L to my short list of NDP 'keepers'. That's two now.
