I thought that “blogburst” thing only generated less than 600 people registering for the petition to scrap SWC. I wouldn’t ascribe too much power to blogs. They can make a bit of a ruckus from time to time, but I don’t believe direct influence is their strong point.
If social policy under the Harper Conservatives is going to be dictated to by the likes of the Campaign Life Coalition and right-wing "faith-based" activists, that’s a pretty scary proposition. I hope they keep up the hard work however. It will make for excellent fodder in the next election.
The SOW is a tremendous waste of cash. It is also blatantly discriminatory against men. Being anti male is now the cultural vogue. Unfortunately there are many"men" who are in league with the radical feminist agenda. So sad.
I've seen is mentioned before, but again we get sound bites with the phrase "new government". Seems to be a mantra, and all the diverse independent thinking government MPs (when allowed to speak) use it.
I don't see a contradiction in Red's paragraphs. One says that blogbursts, at least one of the size mentioned, don't have a lot of power. The other says right-wing activists dictate CPC policy. I would not say they dictate to CPC any more than they dictate to the blogbursters. But they do have the same point of view.
They don't want you to have reproductive freedom, but freedom to be discriminated against because you are gay, female or not married to Mr. or Mrs. Cleaver (only one of the Cleavers please, and of course it must be the one of the opposite sex to you).
They are also working hard so you will get the freedom to die if you don't have the cash for the hospital.
To attract other voters who don't agree with their "freedom but not for all" agenda, they try the fiscal prudence feint. Financially, they need to scrap many programs, such as SOW at 20 odd million, in order to cover the untendered 8 BILLION contract for Boeing aircraft. So much for the greater fiscal responsibility of the "new regime"
They only try to save money in certain things, the ones that fit their radical agenda. It's not really about saving money at all.
Nice that it is no longer a hidden agenda, though.
Joanne -- Well, I agree with what LS said, but let me add that if there is a contradiction it's in your post itself.
The title implies that blogs played a role here, but the substance of the post doesn't carry through on this assertion but simply points to an article posted on the website of an activist pro-life group.
I tried to address both aspects of what you seemed to be saying.
Yes Roy, much better to be in league with the Hugh Hefners of the world that treat women with such tremendous respect and dignity. That's real manliness, not "men" like those of us who believe that it's well past time to end the numerous forms of gender inequality.
Once again Joanne..you offend the worshippers of the sacred cow..SOW.
Unless you start asking for government funding to pursue your goals you have my commendations. At least you have pursued through action something that you believe in...can't say the same this bunch that seems to have nothing to offer but spitefull sniping.
Cheers! I guess you are now officially one of those "Scary" conservatives!
I guess you are now officially one of those "Scary" conservatives!
If that means treating all Canadians equally, then I guess I'm scary. Like Sara, I believe that one-income families should be treated the same as two-income families. Yes, I guess that makes me pretty scary.
Those girls shut up and do what they're told - attack anything that doesn't support a socialist agenda, the agenda that puts money in their pockets.
'Feminists' would concern themselves with ensuring women's rights and responsibilities are equal to all others - they haven't done that in ages. In fact, they believe women should be less responsible in Law in some cases - which likens women to children once again - just like the old days! lol, lol, lol.....
Fascinating comment Cherniak. No wonder I and many others call the fiberals the party agianst God. You probably support the Muslim extremist attacks against the Pope. No wonder the Bishops find politicians of your party to be completely at odds with their "faith".
Joanne, no contradicton in your post as RT suggests. Your title has the question mark after it. I read it to mean you are asking if the make work women's programs shutting down were sparked or influenced by the blogbirst Suzanne started.
Despite not thinking you contradicted yourself, I do think that the blogbursts were more of an advertisement to the bloggers to be ready to defend the shut downs that were already in progress. The lack of funds coming from HRDC also had backlash from a couple of places and "shades" Finley patched up the ones that were most needed but I am sure many programs the Liberals used to make work will be shut down. Transitions are a bitch. I know of several conservative minded people who are now on the government payroll or working for entities sponsored by the government.
It's normal and it's politics. I don't necessarily like it, but I find the right wing runs on a smaller government which means fewer tax dollars wasted on cronyism.
Some contributers to this blog seem to have confused the Conservative Party of Canada with the Christian Heritage Party. It is the Christian Heritage Party whose policy is dictated by fundamental Christians.
Thanks, Mulder. That was a very fair and objective analysis, IMHO.
Lean and mean; yes. That's what, ahem, many on the left are upset about. It would appear the the Grits and Dippers are more into dishing out cash than trying to make the bureaucracy accountable.
Then they accuse the government of being cold-hearted.
Well, that's the beauty of democracy - if you don't like it, vote them out. As I will if I see an over-correction and witness suffering among the needy because of it. Suffering among the needy - not the bloated unionized purveyors of the programs.
Should we talk about the danger of activists groups that can control some of the government's policies and their agenda?
there is two sides to every coin, yours and theirs. Both needs to be respected, listened to thats another subject but respected yes and SWC has never done that... your side matters just as much as your neighbors... well in this case it doesn't cause you're a MAN... STATUS OF WOMEN is not for men remember,, really fair isn't it
Seems that SOW is being influenced by COW (Catholic Obtuse Women)
yup,,
and SWC was being influenced by the left wing groups...
so cherniak tell me who is right or left...
maybe we should take care of all women's points whether they are SOW, COW, gay, straight, or moms... maybe this could be an eye opener for SWC not to leave anyone out you know like go down the middle!
Another correction for our left wing friends. In all the many discussions and meetings I have been present at there has only been one instance that somebody suggested that the CPC take a position because it was what the Americanswere doing. Of the twenty-five or so other party members present only one thought the arguement had any merit what so ever. So much for bending over for our American masters. As to the Conservatives "screwing" all of Canada but Alberta, not true! The biggest problem for the rest of Canada is the high value of the Canadian dollar. The Conservatives made it very clear that they did not want the interest rates to go any higher. High interest rates prop up the Canadian dollar. By the way, isn't the Governer of the Bank of Canada, who kept raising the interest rates following the lead of the US, a Liberal appointee?
Nobody said CPC is "doing what the Americans are doing". A comment was mentioning rewriting speeches that sound too much like their American taskmasters.
Big difference between doing what the Americans are doing and following their orders.
I don't believe the CPC is simply a cat's paw for Americans, but to illustrate the above view, if we "did what the Americans are doing" on softwood lumber, we would continue to stonewall as they did, and pursue the legal remedies that our free trade agreement provides.
Good to see a cpc member here though. A lot of the commenters here are mostly against the "so-con" agenda, (whatever that is), and not against fiscal responsibility or our current foreign policies (I'm probably going to get flamed for that...). That's why you may see discussions that you might think belong in CHP.
Isn't a SOWCOW one of the jumps in figure skating? No, wait... that's a salchow... not to be confused with Olivia Chow, wife of Taliban Jack Layton... I'm so confused...

Aren't your two paragraphs somewhat contradictory?

Courrier Laval was also cited. Hardly an activist group.
However, it was all just tongue in cheek anyway. Sorry if you weren't amused.

BTW - was anyone ever able to find out the ratio of Government Funding / Program SPending by SOW?
I guess you are now officially one of those "Scary" conservatives!

PGP - Suzanne may have that info. She just posted about this as well.
'Feminist activist' groups - lol, lol...

Thanks for making that distinction, CPC member. Very much appreciated.
be careful- scary Harper is going to get you! Be afraid- be very afraid!
lol! Mac, I heard he eats nasty Grits for breakfast!
Accountable, for the Cons only means bending over for the Americans, their buddies in Alberta and screwing Canada.
Ah, thanks for that little mental image so early in the day. Lovely.

Oh Mac. Better watch it there. The PC police might get you. For sure you're toast now if you ever run for office. ;)
Little enough chance of that happening! I'm too honest to be a politician.
