Do we still have Freedom of Speech?

Are we all equal under the rule of law? Caledonia Wake-Up Call doesn't think so.

A March for Freedom has been planned for Oct. 15, but it seems that the OPP is trying to obtain an injunction to prevent the public gathering. (Click on "OPP Enforce Two-Tier Injunctions" near the top of the page.)

It would seem that only special interest groups are allowed to have rallies, parades, occupations and demonstrations. I'm all for equal rights, but doesn't equal mean "everyone"? What do you think, Belinda?

Is this the Ontario you want?

* * * *

Update: David Ramsey says "...his department is not seeking an injunction to halt an Oct. 15 rally on the disputed land, although aboriginals have asked the province to stop the rally for fear it will lead to violence."

Now why would a peaceful rally lead to violence?

And who is telling the truth? Or is this just a sneaky way to get around the possibility that it is actually the OPP who is seeking the injunction? Stay tuned.

UPDATE: Scathing editorial in the Toronto Sun over McGuinty's naming ex-addict Health Minister George Smitherman as new deputy premier!!!

At least we still appear to have Freedom of the Press.

-but not Freedom of holding up a sign.

When I saw Belinda's name on your post at a quick glance, I thought it was going to be related to the Tie Domi thing in the news today, but her comments in the article on that link are much more shocking. Her views seem so extreme that I wouldn't be surprised to see her continue her walk to the left to join the NDP.

Totally off topic Joanne, but I noticed Wells has a rant about the CBC and I know you dislike the organization so I thought I'd point you to his site.

its short, but as you know it's the little things that count ;)

lol! Thanks, Riley. Lots of little gems there. I love Paul Wells. One reason why I continue to subscribe to Macleans.

This Caledonia/ Douglas Creek business just keeps getting more surreal!

Does anyone in the provincal government have any sense?

Nobody in the current Liberal government it seems. The opposition are hopping mad about it.

It is the theatre of the absurd. The price of admission is frightening.

Canadians are free to say whatever the government and media allow them to say.

So STFU and pay your taxes.

And these Liberals are still running around saying "Conservatives are Scary"!
That little piece on Belinda S was quite illuminating! It's like watching a poor soul descending into madness or addiction. Do you think you would have ever heard words like that out of her mouth 2 years ago?

This makes a good case for the assertion that Liberalism is mental disorder.

Running low on material are we?
Back to the old "you're crazy" routine.

Give Steve a little more time, and the liberals will be able to run with a certified dead person and still kick out the radical "new" government.

It's too bad really, the Conservatives had a lot of good ideas, but these radicals who have hijacked the party give conservatism a bad name.

Perhaps you could expand on that, L.S.

Hi, Joanne!

Re Belinda Stronach: What else would you expect from that paragon of virtue and wholesomeness? She's some piece of work.

I gotta say something about this Tie Domi thing as well. What Belinda wants, Belinda gets! She wanted to go out and get herself a husband (he IS a husband, after all, just not hers). I really have to question her choice in husbands, though. What a dog!

Red, I don't even respond to chain letters! ;)

Soccermom, Belinda is no favourite of mine for various reasons, but I hesitate to comment on what is their private business - of course not so private with their celebrity status!

It makes Belinda's comments about sticking up for women take on a whole new meaning!

I don’t respond to chain letters either, but it’s kind of an interesting mental exercise to go through. Actually makes you think about the films that you feel are significant (or not) and can be revealing through disclosure of your tastes.

freedom of speach is one thing but hate writing is another. I respect anyone with a view even if it doesn't match mine but when it becomes mean that is when I stop listening.

(not aimed at anyone in particuliar)

We never had freedom of speech if your definition includes shouting "Fire!" in a theatre.

Demanding to exercise your right of free speech at the Douglas Creek Estates site is no different. An excuse like "it's taxpayer owned" doesn't cut it. All our military bases, the mint, 24 Sussex ate all "taxpayer owned", but we can't just waltz into any of those.

The native occupation of that land is obviously a different situation, but it is the subject of an ongoing negotiation process. I think the natives are somewhat in the wrong, and I believe the situation will be resolved peacefully. Does the organizer of the "march for freedom" have his own claim to the land? How is the "march for freedom" going to help in resolving the situation? If the organizer believes the problem is the provincial government, the march would be held at Queen's Park. If the organizer believes the problem is the federal government, the march would be held in Ottawa.

Since the natives stopped blocking the highway, and are only on the disputed land, there is really no reason for the "march of freedom" to enter there.

It appears that the organizer of the "march for freedom" is just another rabble rouser, spoiling for a fight, who wants 20,000 people to do the fight.

The protesters have been yelling FIRE for over seven months. Not to mention thousands of crimes they have commited. The OPP have failed to carry out their sworn duty. It's the typical Liberal response: protect the guilty, punish the innocent.
PS. Every Canadian has a claim on that land, it's part of Canada. The protesters deny Canada has the right to exist. Kind of ironic since they were given the land by the Crown in 1784.

OMMAG said...

Like my Momma' used to say LS "Two wrongs do a right make!"
So if the Freedom March really is just rabble rousing they deserve no more than that bunch of self righteous thugs on the "Estates" deserve.

Question is " Will anyone get what they really deserve in this matter? "

Yeah swift, the "Conservative" approach would be way better. Those damn Liberals just don't get it do they? We need dead bodies! Whether it's Ipperwash with a dead injun (on Harris's watch), or Oka with a dead frog cop (on Mulroney's watch).

Shoulda killed all them uppity injuns the first time they got in our way. I mean, they're not really people now are they?

What's the matter with these Liberals? They must have no testicles. They must like fellating the injuns and having sex with the squaws.

Damn Liberals. They just don't get it.

Fortunately, cool heads are prevailing though. They natives squatting on the Estates, but don't seem to be getting much result from it.

Our "spineless" provincial government is not giving away the store, just waiting them out. Eventually the negotiations will take place.

I sheepishly admit that I muffed my Momma's quote..
Shoulda been " Two wrongs do NOT a right make!"

BTW Lib Sup.....where's that famous Liberal Middle Ground?
You seem to go from suckholing to the natives to blasting them with guns!

How about just enforcing the LAW?
Or are you convinced that enforcing the law will inevitably lead to violence? And just who would be perpetrating that violence?

Red, I don't know why, but I'm just not a movie person. Wait! I take that back!! - Anything Johnny Depp!!!!

Sara, I hear you.

Since the natives stopped blocking the highway, and are only on the disputed land, there is really no reason for the "march of freedom" to enter there.

And there's really no reason for the rally supporters not to start occupying their own piece of land. After all, then McWimpy will buy it for them.

Swift, according to them, we are all here illegally.

Question is " Will anyone get what they really deserve in this matter? "

PGP, hopefully McWimpy will in 2007.

Our "spineless" provincial government is not giving away the store, just waiting them out. Eventually the negotiations will take place.

L.S., as I understand it, the government is trying to negotiate as we speak. They are trying to get Justice Marshall's court order rendered invalid.

PGP - There is no respect for law in Ontario anymore. Just political optics.
