Taking some time off

Once again, I'm going to take a break from posting for a while.

I find I need to do this on a regular basis; especially when my waking thoughts begin to turn exclusively to politics and blogging. That is just sick.

I may update the odd post if new information becomes relevant, but I'm sure that you will cope quite well without my rants.

I wish you some well-deserved rest.

Some friendly advice, if I may. You should follow Adam Daifallah's example.
He also has a very interesting blog, but usually posted ONE topic every other day.
Lately, he has called upon guest bloggers to share posting duty.

Perhaps you try to be too thorough, covering too many topics per day. That might explain blogger's fatigue.

Please take this as a friendly observation, not criticism.

You deserve a good rest, Joanne. We all need rest sometimes, as I can attest! But I have to say that the BT won't be the same without you!

Thanks Gabby and Mr. Erl.

Exactly. It almost becomes addictive - to see what's the latest breaking news, etc.

It's always good to get away and get some perspective though.

I'm not too inclined to look for guest bloggers at this point, but you never know. Maybe someday.

Are you travelling to God's country? We could solve all kinds of 'world problems' sitting at a clean lake somewhere...instead of a keyboard!
Wherever...enjoy!!!

In case you're wondering, I was not hinting/angling for that assignment. I have a hard enough time keeping up with the blogs I visit regularly.

What I meant was that Adam's posting was limited to perhaps one a day, not several per day, which must be exhausting.

Anyway, enjoy your time off, but do come back :-)

Thanks, Anon! There may indeed be a lake in my immediate future. A lake with loons, and swaying trees.

I didn't think you were angling, but you would be my first choice. ;)

It's not exhausting for me. I thrive on it. But it does lead to a very unbalanced Joanne.

The other problem is that my rear end tends to grow exponentially in relation to time spent in front of the computer.

I blush - thanks.

"The other problem is that my rear end tends to grow exponentially in relation to time spent in front of the computer."

I feel your pain, as do my groaning jeans!

Take a rest Joanne, we will survive without you. Darn if Joanne isn't here every day I will have to leave the computer room, anyone remember what my wife's name is again. LMGMO

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Thanks, Kingston. Good to know I'll be missed.

Now go introduce yourself to your wife. ;)

My husband will be surprised to see me without a keyboard attached.

It's not like the old days, joanne.

Balancing on a soapbox, wagging a finger at passers-by and dodging tomatoes provided much more exercise back then.

Now we have to take breaks, smell flowers, and see our real world people.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

L.S. - lol! I'll miss you.

Enjoy the break, Joanne. It's amazing what a little break can do for the mind, as well as the behind!

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Thanks, Paul.

Yeah, they could both use a change in activity.

I just had to laugh about a statement in World Wide Wasteland. Could it be that todays kids can't discriminate between credible reporting by objective professional journalists and the drivel that is present on many blogs because they have never seen objective reporting by professional journalists?

The Sun had a bit on page 2 today about "dotsam and netsam", kind of like flotsam and jetsam, except these being the millions of blogs of bloggers who stopped blogging (not just taking breaks). They even suggested that would be a good name for a blog.

On Tuesday, Peter Worthington was talking about his step daughter's new book. His title: "I'm so proud of a gr8 book I barely understand"

The funniest part is his snark at blogs. He's talking about Huffington Post (which I've never read), but his snobbery is hilarious (Dani is the step daughter):
On the Huffington site (huffingtonpost.com) Dani stands out as the only contributor among that vanity crowd of wannabe pundits who is of a conservative persuasion.

Vanity wannabe pundits. Hahaha! It is true most of us are amateurs, but he wants to trivialize it like teenage wannabe rock stars or something. Sheesh! At least they don't call us porn stars compared to their own B-movie star status.

The old media just can't stand the new media. They are no less fact challenged as well. A hundred million "monkeys" is now "infinite"? The old monkeys and typewriters thing was to try and explain infinity, not give some old media hack a ready made insult against the new.

I guess the "bad old internet is dangerous, trust us professionals" is not working anymore.

swift: I think that is part of the transformation that old media still must go through. They have become too corporatized and hidebound that it stifles a lot of professional journalism. After all, if you can make money off infotainment, why have real reporters? News was often just a draw to get eyes on the ads.

Their problem now is that this formula only works when media is an oligarchy. When you have this unregulated self publishing medium out there, where good work does get seen, and bad work is laughed at, they have to return to their own roots as well. About time really.

Don't blame commercialism. The reason there is no objective reporting is because editorial stances have invaded the newsroom. Which US TV network has the highest ratings by far? Fox news. There is less bias on it than the others. Note I'm not saying there is none, but the in the main they do report news and leave the editorials to their opinion programs. For most of the MSM the news is just a place to sneak in opinions through the back door. Reporting has been reduced to paraphrasing news releases when they are ambitious and using them verbatim when they are lazy. Checking facts is never considered if the news release supports your agenda. If the news release doesn't support your agenda, just get some spokesperson from your point of view to counter it. The result of this is that those people who want the facts watch the news programs that have the least bias in them. The networks make more money from programs with higher ratings, if it was commercialism that was driving the news then there wouldn't be the obvious bias, the rest would be copying Fox and improving on it.

Well done Jo. It is now Tuesday and you have been off for nearly a week. I am impressed. At some point soon, I would like to do the same. Hope you had a wonderful rest and time with family. It is so true -- we put the pressure on ourselves!

LS - Now if the so-called professionals would just wake up to that realization.

I'm back from my enforced solitude.

I'll need a few days to catch up with the news and get back to civilization. Please feel free to bring me up to date. Thanks.

I'm missing the sound of the motor boats and loons.

Hi Jo, got your comment. The funny thing was I ended up having no choice but to take time off. My right arm, pecs and right shoulder are still far from healed but I was able to put up a post today that I can leave for a few days. Funny thing is the time off actually did me good. Mind you, I wasn't near the water and the loons. I'm jealous. :)

Instead, I spent the time visiting a physiotherapist, my chiropractor and my massage therapist and in and out of the frig getting the cold packs. Fun, wow! LOL

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Oh well, Sandy you can imagine the loons and the ripple of the waves as you rest with your icepacks. Very soothing.

I'm having trouble getting back into the mood to blog because I'm still so mellow...

*Sigh*

Speaking about catches, are any fish missing from the lake this year?

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Oh, there might be the odd perch, pickerel and pike missing...

Steph was the fish-slayer this time. She's got the knack. A certain flick of the wrist to set the hook.

Swift said...

Be carefull throwing that name around. This is a political blog and somebody might get the wrong impression.

Swift said...

Is your inhouse tech expert also your inhouse physics expert?

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Swift - lol! Too funny.

Do you get much fishing in?

Swift said...

No fishing this year, but Iam hoping to buy a boat next year if the stock market does the right thing. Of coarse if the fish are no more cooperative at taking the bait than you are at responding to my last post, I won't be catching anything.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

...if the fish are no more cooperative at taking the bait than you are at responding to my last post

??? Sorry, Swift. I'm not too swift this morning. What are you referring to?

Swift said...

Maybe this afternoon will be better. I was refering to your inhouse tech expert and wondering if he had a second specialty, physics.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Swift - If you're referring to the 'wrist-flick' action, that's my daughter's. ;)

The boy's good with computers, but the girl is the fisherperson.

Swift said...

I guess this afternoon is not much better. Does your basement computer guru know much about physics?

Joanne (True Blue) said...

No Swift. Physics was not one of his strong suits.

Yeah, this afternoon is not much better.

Maybe I'm too mellow; like a marshmallow. ;)

Go to emc2fusion.org and take a look at the "International Academy of Science" and the "Fighting for Fusion" links. Very low cost power without radioactives or pollutants may be possible in seven years. Current oil gas and coal powered plants can be converted to this system. Nuclear plants could also be converted with the bonus that the old radioactive waste could be treated so that its dangerous life could be reduced from ten thousand years to a century. The waste product from the fusion process is helium, a colourless, oderless, lighter than air gas that does not react with any thing under normal conditions.

Ths is the most important discovery made in years. It will completely change our capabilities, as there are manythings we know how to do, but they are just to expensive with our current energy sources. Desalination of sea water is just one example that is not cheap enough now to be practical, but will make a large difference with cheap power. The fusion reactor also makes a much superior rocket engine and will cut the cost of space flight dramatically. This brings all the resources of the solar system within our reach. The known resources of the olar system are far greater than the resources on earth for most things except fossil fuels, which we won't need anyway.

The immediate implications are huge. Kyoto is a complete waste. New power plants to supply power for the next decade should be coal or gas, as these can be easily converted to fusion. Nuclear plants are a waste of money, with ter high apital costs, plus with the long environmental approval process, it is doubtful that any would actually be built before they became obsolete. In much less than a century you mayhave to go to a museum to see an internal combustion engine. And the po;iticals will not have to pass one law to make this happen.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Interesting stuff, Swift. Have you contacted any politicians about this? It would be good to hear their reaction.
