Michael Bryant - The 'Don Cherry of anti-gun'

From today's Star interview with Orillia sporting goods store owner Wes Winkel:

Gun enthusiasts say Bryant's argument is little more than a cop-out.

"You're not able to actually get the criminals, so you say we have to stop the legal people from owning them," Winkel said.

With the Oct. 10 provincial election quickly approaching, Winkel expects to hear a lot more about handgun bans but doesn't think it will go further than talk.

"With the risk of sounding a little arrogant, Mr. Michael Bryant has been spouting off for years and I've learned not to take him too seriously.

"He talks without thinking. I call him the Don Cherry of anti-gun.

Darn! I wish I had thought of that. Although it does Mr. Cherry a grave disservice.

It would seem that guns are no longer politically-correct.

Update - University gun club appeals closure.

But get this!!

On Monday, Rob Steiner, an assistant vice-president of the university, said the closure "is really a values issue. This is not a safety issue, as strictly defined. If there had been a safety issue, it would have been shut down right away."
Oh, I love the irony! The left is trying to teach us 'values'!!! Oh, o.k. I get it. If it's their values that's fine, as long as anyone on the right doesn't push values they don't like. Uh-huh.

Nicol has a great post on this topic - Is Michael Bryant lying about gun stats?

This is awesome:

...Toronto it seems will be willing to have a lot more shootings before it can deal with this issue. Whether it is taxes, guns or gangs, Torontonians seem unwilling to accept any other solution other than the most facile of left wing pronouncments. Then they complain, elect another socialist politician and rinse, wash, repeat...

Bryant bashing week in Toryland - yawn!

Sorry, Michael.

It's so much easier to make a law abiding person a criminal than it is to do something about actual criminals - and blowhard politicos get to sound like tough guys and be all sanctimonious at the same time, the liberal papers love that sort of thing.

uh...when have they ever been?

Well, some people have thought of them as a collectible for their hobby. Not my cup of tea, personally.

Its all about politics and appearances, and nothing about fighting crime.

Hmmm...collecting. I live in rural Ontario and a man her was quite a gun collector - over 30 guns were stolen from his house.

In this instance, fortunately, they were able to retreive them as it was his stepson who stole them.

Otherwise - there would have been 30 more guns out on the streets.

Nothing else interesting to collect?

I see that stat coming up again that 30% of gun crimes are from stolen legitimate gun owners. This is just not true but Bryant keeps stating it and now others are repeating it as truth. Of course the MSM does not ask them their sources for this stat.

This is becoming a credibility issue.

I wonder what Cherry has done or said to get Winkel to insult him like that.

Although it does Mr. Cherry a grave disservice.

This just shows Joanne that you make a lousy progressive.

What kind of guns were they that were stolen? Were they antique caplock firearms? Or perhaps flintlock firearms? Muzzle-loading black powder firearms? Makes a big difference doesn't it?

Besides, everyone admits that only a small percentage of guns that are stolen are used in crimes. Most are illegally imported.

Should people be collecting firearms? I dunno. I guess its better than collecting wives (see polygamy argument) right?

Funny, my question would've been, when did they stop? I grew up in the country, and it was expected to have at least 2, usually 3, rifles.

To some people, guns are tools.

Yeah, I tried but my heart just isn't in it.

Good one, S.O.!

To some people, guns are tools.

Exactly. For purposes of safety and getting rid of pests.

Yup that's the way it works!
Your values are less than and not equal to the values of the Nurse Nannys, the tongue cluckers and the scolds.....
