If women have a 'right' to abortion...

...then I think this is reasonable. It's his body, right?

Whitmore had previously agreed to be chemically castrated in 2005 after his release from jail, but the procedure was never done because probation officials couldn't find a doctor willing to have Whitmore as a patient, his former lawyer, Dan Brodsky said yesterday.

The newspaper said Whitmore may have also made a half-hearted attempt at self-castration while at the Regina Correctional Centre in May by trying to cut off his penis with a tin can.

Isn't it Canada's responsibility to ensure that safe castration is accessible on demand, and that there are doctors readily available to do the procedure?

Oh, and if someone tries to tell you that my belief that medical attention should be available to all Canadians is the same as saying that "women seeking legal abortions (a good number of them Liberals, presumably) were compared to mentally-deranged child molesters", please file that away as an excellent example of 'intellectual dishonesty'.

Thanks, Anna. I was hoping it wouldn't be seen as being a bit too cheeky.

many doctors refuse to provide abortion services. what's your point here?

Joanne (True Blue) said...

I find it surprising that a doctor couldn't be found that was willing to do the procedure.

False comparison. I give you an E- on critical thinking - you get some credit for not bungling the cut-and-paste.

Thank you, brave Anon, who is no doubt a foot soldier from Red Tory's camp.

One reason it may not be done is
was told they couldn't do a proper "drug trial" to study the effects while he was incarcerated.

I'm sure that you'd like to test drugs on prisoners but that only a slippery slope towards transgression of the past...

Then again, given you quote around the "right" to abortion, I get the feeling you'd prefer women to go to back alleys and have abortions performed by coat hangers...

Joanne,

You make a false assumption in your comment here:

"I find it surprising that a doctor couldn't be found that was willing to do the procedure."

That is not correct. A doctor couldn't be found who willing to have him as a patient. For any 'procedure'.

i.e. Couldn't find a doctor who wanted a known pedophile for a patient.

Also agree with anon. You've made a false comparison. Not that you'll admit to it.

But, hey, carry on.

You know, I was prepared to debate you until I got to this part of your comment.

This doesn't warrant any further time on my part.

Also should have added joanne that chemical castration isn't a 'procedure' either. It's accomplished by a drug cocktail.

All the doc has to do is prescribe and monitor. There's no physical 'procedure'.

I think it's still a valid comparison. Aren't all criminals entitled to medical treatment in Canada? Even Paul Bernardo?

All the more reason that the situation is so surprising.

Holy crap...you missed the point on this this.

We already have discussed the abortion issue...

Since he's been defined by some as twisted and sick, mentally deranged - since when to we let the mentally handicapped self-medicate?

And just who are those 'some' that have such power?

I have a camp? Funny, because I have Anonymous f*ckwads telling me what a great site YOU have and how I'm an idiot. I guess all the Anonymous f*ckwads I get from now on I'll just attribute to YOU.

I have trouble taking advice from anyone who hides under the tag of anonymous.

Red Tory said...

Stop saying they come from my place for goodness sake. It seems to me that anyone who bothers to trundle over here that comes from my place comes with a name, which is a heck of a lot more than I can say for the Anonymous Conservative recreants that I get all the time. Cowards!

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Well, you can deny them access, Red. You know what to do.

I can't stop people from exercising their free will. If I try to do that, I usually get shot down.

RGM said...

I know more than a handful of people who wouldn't have any problem with castrating child rapists such as Whitmore.

Red Tory said...

It's a vexing problem for everyone. I wish people would stop commenting anonymously, but they're not all trolls, that's the difficulty.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Red, (and I can't believe I am saying this), the best advice I can give you is to ignore them. Not that I am trying to discourage anyone from defending me at your place, but if you are not happy with what they're saying, you do have the choice to ignore what is said.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

RGM - That's why I can't believe there is no doctor out there willing to assist. He obviously can't control himself, and is begging for help.

Why don't we start sterilization of the retarted? Maybe the homosexuals? Then the criminals...

Shawn said...

Joanne,

If we go forward with the chemical castration, we are acknowleding the possibility that this person may actually get out of prison one day. He should remain behind bars where he cannot harm anyone. No need for it there.

Why, Cherniak. I never would have figured you for the type to suggest that.
