Ontario premier McGuinty and Toronto mayor Miller (M&M) want handguns banned in Canada. Because they "might" be stolen from us collectors and target shooters. I wonder what M&M will say about police officers giving away police issue handguns. With ammo...
Anon - Yeah. I guess they should call for a ban on handguns for police officers too then.
I wonder if the officer will be charged with unsafe storage? A civilian was charged when thieves stole guns from a safe that they took two days to open.

BTW - Miller's stats on the number of guns that are used in crimes are suspect! Kind of like Al Gore reports on weather!
Swift, I would be surprised if the officer wasn't charged... plus there's the police internal discipline process as well. It's a kind of a double-whammy.
I don't know about Kitchener but out here, if a police pistol is stolen, all the stops are pulled out to try to locate it as soon as possible. Some of the gangs take great pleasure in collecting police memorabilia and a pistol scores high on their list of things to obtain.

I think the officer is question is in serious trouble, although according to the story he is still on active duty and has been issued another gun.
Seems that the area has a lot of drug problems.
Gee whiz. Why don't they ban all guns in Canada? Look how well it works with drugs.
I don't see the officer being fired but he might wish he was before this is over.
Can you imagine how he'll feel if his service pistol was used in the commission of a crime?
Mac, yeah exactly. The weapon is obviously in the wrong hands or it would have been turned in by now.
