This morning Dante referred to a recent article by Ted Byfield (Docs Speak out about Abortion), discussing how so few doctors are comfortable about performing abortions these days:
Some doctors reject abortion on purely professional grounds. Medicine is about healing sick people and pregnancy isn't a sickness. Others regard as morally repugnant the forcible extinction of a human life.
Byfield laments the fact that the topic of abortion is squelched by MSM, but it is still very much an issue with many Canadians:
Polls have consistently shown public opinion almost evenly divided three ways -- a third of the people in favour of abortion on demand, a third favouring a total ban on abortion except where the mother's physical life (as distinct from her lifestyle) is clearly threatened, and a third favouring a ban on abortion beyond some definable point in the pregnancy. The idea of a national consensus on the issue was, in other words, a falsehood preserved by the mainstream news media. The fact is two thirds of Canadians opposed abortion-on-demand as provided in Canadian law. But with representation in the media cut off and politicians terrified of any mention of the issue, the majority view was successfully squelched.
But never fear! M.P. Garth Turner came to the rescue when he outed March for Life for using the official Canadian logo.
This prompted a virtual brouhaha of activity amongst left-leaning media who covered the story with glee.
As Byfield commented, "Any public attention focused on this dispute has the effect, however, of weakening the pro-abortion position. Canadian feminists had assumed that resistance to abortion would gradually decline and be replaced by a general public acquiescence."
Garth Turner - working on the side of the angels. Who knew?

I read the link about the MSM you posted, and I must say that Ruby Dhalla's logic....defies....logic.
She says the same spiel about every issue she's asked. Someone should check to see if she's on "robot."

Raz, this one really got to me:
I mean, this is really reflective I think of the Conservative track record, where they have attacked the most vulnerable in our society...
Ms. Dhalla was referring to women of course; not the babies.
I believe this is wishful thinking on Byfield's part. My spouse works in the medical field, and the number of Doctors who refuse to do abortions is quite small. Maybe it depends on the hospital, but our local facility performs numerous abortions every week.
They may not like it, but they do it
I think I'll refer to Ms Dhalla as "miss" Dhalla because she misses the point of everything, and just seems to make it up as she goes along.

Ah, isn't that nice? The Pro-choice folks will be so happy to know that.
Raz, lol! "Miss" Dhalla is one of those annoying politicians that doesn't answer the question, but instead tries to inject her own little barbs whenever and wherever possible. On top of that, she interrupts all the time on shows like MDL and Newman's Politics.
I think she has a very high opinion of herself.
Our abortionist is getting ready to retire. The movement is afoot to have a "Women's Health Centre" in place.A quick search of the names involved reveals the real agenda...pro abortion activists.Very subtle.
We have a difficult time getting enough family physicians to our area. It will be interesting to see how this gets pushed.I won't be contributing to the fundraising.
I will be watching this closely.
Talk about 'hidden agendas'

Good point about the lack of family doctors. I wonder how much public health care funding actually goes into universal abortion access.
In any case, please keep us posted. Also you can always email me at the addy on my Blogger profile. Thanks.
With 40,000 abortions in Ontario, if the rate is $400, then it costs $16 million a year. The health budget is about $32 billion. The health premium (the new health tax) brings in about $1.6 billion.
then it costs $16 million a year
That would cover a few family physicians.
Yes, with 15,840 family physicians in Ontario, adding 1/20 of 1% (the abortion amount I estimated) would support 8 more family physicians.
The Ontario government put up $10 million two years ago to increase the number of family physicians graduating by 337 doctors in 2008.
Well it's a moot point anyway, considering that women will never give up the right to abort their babies on demand and have someone else pay.
