No slight intended to my fellow Blogging Tories, but here's the thing. I tried to watch the Liberal Leadership convention. I really did try. Each time I lasted maybe about five minutes before I had to run for the bathroom.
They're all waxing eloquent on the various candidates, and I'm still trying to retain a few grams of my dinner.
Right now, all I can count on is Earl Grey decaf.

Funny but I was discussing this very thing with my significant other tonight. We didn't remember this kind of coverage. Of course, it's always hard to find a conservative network..

The last CPC convention was for a party that had never been in power. The one founding component that had been in power before, had been out of power for the previous 11 years.
Not as much of a news story, since Martin was still in the honeymoon period and it seemed unlikely that we would be seeing the next prime minister at the CPC convention. But I think the CBC did cover it.
Probably got as much coverage as the NDP convention. Seems to me it was mostly the conservative media all over the NDP convention, covering the list of all the wacky resolutions of the riding associations.
This Liberal convention is news because you are likely seeing the next prime minister there. Maybe that person is Justin Trudeau, who has said earlier this year that the Liberals need more time in the wilderness, but quite likely, anyone who watched did see a future prime minister, maybe even the next one.

I did not mean to say that I believe the next PM is being chosen (even if I do, that was not the point). But it is certainly a possibility. I was trying to explain the amount of coverage compared to the CPC convention.
I think it is reasonable to say the Liberals will be in power again, so saying the future PM is likely there is not too outlandish. That is why I mentioned Justin Trudeau, just in case it takes longer than the party would like.
Do you believe that the Liberals will never ever be in power again?
I only heard some of the speeches on the radio, and since it was a car radio, I could not have conveniently barfed, even if I needed to. Seemed like usual stuff for a convention.
So without the visuals, I did not hear the speech from the potted plant. The one I would still vote for if they ran with it.
I think 'liberal supporter' has a point. The CPC back then wasn't sitting well in the polls and it didn't seem likely Harper would win the leadership. Hell, I have on very good authority that Harper himself didn't believe he could win and saw himself as a 'party builder' for some future leader.
The Liberals on the other had could possibly perhaps maybe have a chance at winning next election. Hence the increased coverage.

I can't help checking in to see what's happening...I'm cheering for Ignatieff because he's the most likely to show the true Liberal left colours if chosen, and be the easiest route to get a Harper majority...

Without a single retch I consumed a marvelous NY Strip of about 12 ounces, baked potato loaded with goodies, frozen peas from my own garden and a fresh salad from someone else's garden, half a bottle of Vancouver Island's finest white wine( I know RED is appropriate but it gives me a severe headache) and laughed like a maniac when the caroon-like Stevie Dingdong was finally apointed head of the brainless. What a winning combination!!! Don't they have ANY good-looking men left in la Belle Provence?
