New Server being set up

If you clicked on your Blue Like You bookmark and ended up here, please don't be alarmed. It is a temporary situation until things are set up on a new server.

Please feel free to use this post to discuss the budget, etc.

Thanks for your patience.

Have to ask what may be a stupid question: Do Servers have political agendas?

Goodmorning! It is wonderful to wake up to BLY. It is going to be a long summer without you and the Blue Buds.

My morning coffee just got better by finding you here.
Being down for a holiday we can live with, but yesterday was painful.

Kind of fun seeing this old "blogger" site. But, even Blogger (which is owned by Google) has been down a fair bit lately from what I hear.

As you say, no perfect server company out there.

Although, I have to say, wordpress.com has never been down in the several years I have been there -- although I did crash once when CotM somehow became infected with a virus where my post titles, immediately upon publishing, ended up on porn gateway sites. Still don't know how that happened.

Anyway, glad you were able to redirect your domain so quickly.

When you register a wordpress.com blog, try "bluelikeyou2," "bluelikeyoutwo," or "bluelikeyoutoo," and one of those should work.

The good news is that you can redirect your domain at a wordpress.com blog for a small $10.00 upgrade. I will tell you (Marc) what to do when the time is right. Then, when BLY regulars click on bluelikeyou.com, they will immediately go to the wordpress.com site -- but only see that domain name.

Ah, the challenges of blogging.

One last point, when Joanne's blog is down, remember, "frmgrl" and other BTs can pick up the slack just like I used to do when CotM was doing politics.

Otherwise, the pressure on Joanne, who needs to rest from time to time, is too much.

P.S. I have a new gravatar -- the little red engine that could to represent special education -- so we'll see if it works here today.

WCT -- Yes, JNW and Joanne are on the same server, which is managed by "Cynapse." I used to be with them all but went off on my own a couple of years ago.

Ah, the Budget. Well the Opps don't like it of course, that's a given.

It's been dubbed as a "Holiday Inn Budget", no surprises and that's accurate. It's as promised pre-election, difference is they can grandstand and all vote against it to feel good about themselves, but it will be to no avail.

One thing is certain, it's a good thing none of the Lefties have any power, they don't even know their
percentages.

Glad you are back Joanne. I miss you first thing in the morning. I know you need a deserved break. Your blog is amazing and the comments are always very thoughtful. Keep up the good work, and have a good rest too.

Kady shows her claws as Elizabeth May channels her inner IgnatieffNow is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!

Green Party MP Elizabeth May, May 3, 2011 - "They will not be able to shut me down or shut me up. And if they try in the House of Commons I'm convinced the Canadian public will have something to say about that."

Kady O'Malley, June 6, 2011 - Also, unless she, too, has developed the ability to change colours to match her surroundings, Elizabeth May is also MIA for today's #QP.

I'm glad so many people are finding their way over here.

Still babysitting today but I'm hoping to give this whole thing some serious consideration soon. Cynapse says the new server should be ready in a day or two. Meanwhile we can hang out here.

Sandy, I actually have been playing around a bit with some test sites at Wordpress.com and just grabbed bluelikeyou2 at your suggestion. (thanks for the idea!)

I want to work through this stuff on my own though over the summer so I can learn as I go. But I sure am glad you are there ready & willing to answer questions.

I realize that I need to become more self-sufficient technically speaking, in order to eventually get things stabilized.

Sounds good to me. It's like driving a car. You don't really learn until you are all by yourself.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

You don't really learn until you are all by yourself.

That's exactly right Sandy. And when you're at the point where you aren't afraid to make mistakes anymore it's very liberating. My plan is to set up at least two mirror sites and then a server outage or failure won't seem so catastrophic.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

I meant to put what you said in italics. That's one of the drawbacks of blogger - that you can't go back & edit your comments.

Sandy said...

The other problem with blogger is that when you delete a comment, it shows as deleted. And, there is no comment notification via e-mail.

Having two mirror sites sounds like a good idea but you will have some challenges being able to redirect your main URL -- which can only go to one site at a time.

Plus, one site will have the comments and the other won't -- unless you regularly, say once a week, go to your regular site:

Tools. Export. Add the dates you want to download. Then, Download the database onto your hard drive.

Then, go to the mirror site and go to Tools and Import. Click on Wordpress.com and download. In that way, you'll also be able to keep all your comments.

If you end of downloading the entire database each week, that is no problem because posts that are already there will be passed over and only new posts added during the import process.

Easy as making a pie -- which is only easy after you know how to make the crust. LOL

Oh, and one thing. When you import a database, the message at the top of the page will be something to the effect "Wordpress will contact you by e-mail within 24 hours when the import is completed."

Usually it only takes five or ten minutes. Just keep refreshing things and eventually you'll have what you wanted. Or, wait until you actually do get that e-mail. ;)

My bet is that regular BLYs are probably finding this whole technical process enlightening.

'Glad to see you up and running, Joanne! I wasn't surprised to see your site down, seeing as you had talked about taking a break.

But, I'm glad to see you haven't terminated Blue Like You, though I do hope you are able to slow down this summer!

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Sandy, thanks for that info. I'm going to take my time over the summer planning how I'm going to handle all this.

To readers who were worried that I had deliberately yanked the plug, I wouldn't do that without fair warning. Promise. ;)

Jack is back up, at least for a while.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Jack is back up? The old link isn't working for me. Does he have a new one?

I understand that it's going to take a few days to get the new server functioning for our blogs so you guys are welcome to hang out here. Of course there are other terrific Blogging Tories to visit as well.

I've just started setting up a backup site on Wordpress.com and it will be an ongoing effort. You can check it out here at Blue Like You2. My logo is on there now so at least that much is familiar.

I duplicated the latest post so if you want to leave a comment as a way to test things out, please feel free.

I may try posting some new stuff there if things take a while to set up on the new server.

Liz J said...

Something else for Jack to raise cane over, no debate on the Budget.

Too bad he's being deprived of an opportunity to grandstand over a Budget that has zero chance of being defeated.

Liz J said...

Jack's link at your site that leads us here to comment works for me.

New Brunswick Tory "Lady" doesn't, needs to be changed to New Brunswick Tory "Gal"?

Joanne (True Blue) said...

Jack's link at your site that leads us here to comment works for me.

That's weird. It doesn't work for me.

These are really old links on this blog. I'll have to update them. Thanks Liz.

First we have the Page twit, then yesterday we had hackers posting on the Conservative site about the PM being airlifted to hospital after choking on hash browns at breakfast.

We have to wonder what else the desperate Leftists will attempt.

It wouldn't surprise me if successful Conservative bloggers are going to get targeted as well since they cover stuff the Left doesn't want to hear.

YAY!! I found you. You are like that old friend that you lost contact with and then suddenly you find their new address and feel a sense of coming home!

All of us Blue faithful sure do appreciate all you do, Joanne.

A thankyou is not enough to express my appreciation.

BTW..I have found that Kady O seems to be a bit less partisan lately with her twittering - unlike say....David Akin and Rosie O. I am also following someone named InfoNDPbot - very interesting to see what they are up to ---- seems some misadventurous things may be being planned.

Opposition upset no debate on Throne Speech.

Yeah I read somewhere in today's Post that it was necessary to get the budget passed asap or they will run out of money. But stuff like that doesn't seem to phase the lefties.

Joanne (True Blue) said...

BTW please try leaving a comment at my test site Blue Like You2.

Your first comment may be held in moderation but after that it shouldn't get caught in the filter. Thanks.
